Dr Balk is a Mid Life Gynecologist. I have been seeing her since I had a hysterectomy in 2001. She is THE BEST gynecologist I have ever had. She is personable and truly cares about her patients. She sits and talk with you. She really listens. She is very knowledgable and wise. I can't imagine seeing anyone else. I have never waited more than 5 mins in the lobby or in the exam room. She has special tables that go low to the ground for people who are in wheel chairs or who have difficulty climbing up on to the normal height exam tables. Her staff is always kind and helpful. The location is nice because there is an imaging center in the same building where you can get sonograms and mammograms. I went through a lot of bad gynecologists to find Dr Balk. She is true five star status.

On my most recent visit, there was a line about 3 people long to check-in and the appointments were about 40 minutes behind. It's difficult to accommodate a variance like that when I'm scheduling around my work schedule. The staff were friendly and didn't appear overwhelmed, though, and my nurse practitioner was as knowledgeable and personable as always. Little did I know that answering yes to that question meant I would be double billed for my annual + a doctor's visit. $600 in total. For 15 minutes with the doctor. I have no problem with paying an additional fee if I actually have a plan. Instead I was given "Let's do these tests and then come back to discuss them." I.e. Another doctor's visit. At $400 a pop. Plus, I had the privilege of being charged a $25 supply fee for the pelvic exam. Violated twice, AWC. Needless to say, I'm no longer a patient here.

When I went back for an appointment after my delivery they said I didn't make an appointment even though I had a card with my appointment date and time. Even during my delivery my delivering doctor got impatient and decided to do an episiotomy when it wasn't necessary instead of oh, I don't know.. Using lube?! I started going there during my second pregnancy in 2014 and the same thing, when I got really sick and dehydrated they made an appointment time for me to go to the Washington hospital to receive fluids because it was getting bad. Well, the nurse in the office seemed to forget to send the scripts that morning, the hospital called 3 times and they said they'd fax them.. Never did. The office closed and the staff got ahold of a doctor in the hospital who gave them the back room number for the ob office and they got ahold of them and FINALLY got the scripts almost 2 hours later! I would not recommend to anybody. I transferred to Dr. Bulseco and associates in McMurtry and went to St. Clair for my second after that. Amazing group of doctors there though.
