Let me preface this review with this restaurant catered my wedding so obviously I love it!!! I went to Terre Haute for a funeral and had to stop by my favorite restaurant in the city. I have eaten here literally hundreds of times. The owner/chef is always so accommodating. I usually order something off the menu and he makes it happen. Here are some of my favorites: Shrimp scampi Seafood Risotto Scallops Scampi Vodka Pasta with Steak/Shrimp/Scallops On the menu favorites: French onion soup Tuna Sashimi Beef Wellington Lamb Chops Caesar Salad Tonight we had shrimp scampi and steak vodka pasta. My husband gets it extra spicy. Everything was excellent. As appetizers we ordered the Tuna Sashimi and French onion soup. Husband ended the night with bananas foster. Service is always good and drinks are never empty. We love Shawn and enjoy our conversations with him. This is a place to enjoy a nice dinner out without any rush and hustle and bustle. We were looking for a place to eat before RAIN bike ride tomorrow and this place was spectacular! There were 10 of us and the service was outstanding. Great apps, Caesar salad, risotto, lamb chops, snapper and chicken Marsala. Topped off with cheesecake and tiramisu! Just a great dinning experience and you could tell the locals knew about it. A great place. Not many people eating at 7:00 (7+us) but it was a great menu and the food was great. I really wanted shrimp scampi but saw it wasn't on the menu. Like magic it appeared. I asked for angel hair and the waiter wasn't too confident but like magic it also was on my plate. John ordered the beef Wellington which was perfect. Served with potatoes and carrots and the best gravy you could want. Kudos to the chef. I wish I lived closer. Not a fan of the chain restaurants when traveling. Mark a 5 star in the book. read more

Looking for Italian on a Friday night. This place came up with some good reviews on yelp, decided to give it a go. I got the Chicken Marsala. Came with veggies, roasted potato, salad, and bread. Everything was fresh and seasoned well. The price was a bit expensive, but I think that is just how everything is right now. I was surprised, based on the food alone, this place should be more busy, especially for a Friday night. The place does have some "old school" features like: cloth table cloths, and the parsley sprinkled around the plate. Overall it was a bit expensive, so I would have to think about going back. Really, really good food. Finding food of this quality here was a BIG surprise, no offense to Terre Haute (which buy the way is a very interesting place). A very welcoming place and elegant as well. The chef/owner (similar to many places in France where I grew up) was super accommodating; when my wife ordered the snapper special I was reluctant to order the same thing so he offered to prepare my fish in a different way and both were delicious! Best dining experience you can ever have. The chef is wonderful and the food is FANTASTIC. I've always left Magdy's with a full stomach and a smile on my face. My go-to dish is the ribeye with a side serving of penne arrabiata with tiramisu and/or turkish coffee for dessert but to be honest, everything I've tried at Magdy's is ridiculously good. Went to dinner with a few of us. We made reservations ahead of time. We were instantly greeted, and all the staff was extremely friendly. Everything was very clean! We were told about specials. Pictures are the dish and dessert I ordered! Hands down best chicken Marsala I've ever had!! My friend asked if Magdy could make Carmel for the cheesecake, and of course he did! I almost hate posting this review for selfish reasons. I have known about this restaurant since it opened in Terre Haute but had never gone until tonight. The staff , Magdy and the food is the epitome of fine dining! It was truly delightful to be able to sit and enjoy our meal in a leisurely fashion. I had the salmon in dill sauce and my husband had the Cajun red snapper. For dessert I enjoyed the baklava and husband had the bananas foster. Everything was absolutely delicious! Quaint small restaurant in Terre Haute. Nice, simple decor, makes you comfortable in a tie or jeans. When I arrived it took a while to greet me and seat me. Finally just said "sit wherever you want". That shouldn't have taken so long. Waiter was nice. I ordered a Chardonnay, Caesar Salad and Salmon in Dill Sauce. Caesar salad was awesome, dressed nicely with a hint of lemon. Very good and nice sized(not too small, not too big, just right). Salmon arrived after a short delay. The Salmon was cooked just right. However, it seemed to be over sauced(see pic). I pushed much of the sauce aside and it was good. The rice and green beans were done perfectly. I enjoyed my meal. In general the menu here is small. The chef does a good job and everyone seemed to like/enjoy their food. I did notice lots of sauce left of plates, but pushing sauce aside isn't too bad. I am amazed to find Magdy's in "the armpit of Indiana . Not my words. The atmosphere is not impressive. THE FOOD IS!!! Mom had a Blue Cheese Wedge made with Hearts of Romaine. Way better than iceberg and excellent. I had a Caesar because the waiter made it by mistake-Yum! My lamb was incredible! There were 8 chops and the chef left a little fat on them so they were juice and tender. Mom's clam chowder was excellent. Prices were reasonable although I thought the wines were small pours. Omg! What a find! We were just in Terre Haute for the night and found good reviews for Magdy's so we decided to drop in for dinner. This was the best meal we've had in the past year. Magdy, who PERSONALLY came to our table to ask how everything was, is an artist with food. The presentation was lovely but oh the flavors! It was a party in my mouth! My husband ordered the clam chowder to start but the waiter said unfortunately it was gone for the evening. But Magdy said he'd make some for my husband! We thought the best clam chowder we'd ever had was in Rhode Island but this was incredible. So many wonderful flavors combined to make such a delightful chowder. The entrees we selected were seared yellowfin tuna and my husband had the red snapper with crabmeat in a creamy sauce. The tuna was just very lightly seared with an incredible sauce. Just a hint of Wasabiin the sauce that said let the party begin! The red snapper with crab was cooked to perfection. It was light and flaky and melted in my mouth. It's rare that I will finish a whole restaurant meal but I couldn't stop eating! Magdy truly is an artist with flavors. Oh, and save room for dessert. Magdy makes homemade baklava and tiramisu. Was greeted by stone faced waiter. Set down, felt awkward. Waited for waiter. Order a drink. Order appetizer- this bland mozzarella thing. I think it was supposed to be a tomato mozzarella caprese. Ordered 3 entrees- one for myself, one for each of the kids (11 and 7). Waited about 45 minutes for the food. My Thai style fish surprise was something out of Kitchen Nightmares. Old fish, slightly tinged with antiseptic cleaning product essence ala Lysol. My sons Chicken Caprese was a pile of hot stuff with a hair sticking out of it. He didn't touch it. Smart kid. My daughter ordered chicken Alfredo, two bites and done. The 'chef' came out and pointed the finger back at us when I mentioned my son didn't wanna eat hair. My sons hair is slightly longer than a crew cut, this stray hair was about 2 inches long. I wish I never went to Terra Haute. Obviously, food outside of Chicago is lacking basic composure. So once the food finally came, it was good. Not worth the two hour wait to get it, but good food. The bread was good, the salad was drenched in dressing. We went on a Thursday night. One of the first tables there, it got a little busy for the one server that was there. We had gotten our food and eaten it before anyone else did. I have been to the old location a couple of times. As quaint as it was, the new location is much better! The restaurant feels much roomier and more elegant. I visited this restaurant for a catered event last week of about 40 people. Good and service was great. Our server made sure we were satisfied and always had something to drink. In a big group like this service can always be a little on the slow side, but everyone was friendly and made it a great evening! Personally, I love the lamb chops. My colleagues rave about the beef Wellington. I have only visited on such hosted occasions, so I can't speak to the regular menu. But I always leave more than satisfied and I love the new atmosphere. We found this restaurant on way from Maine to Arizona. Looks are deceiving, atmosphere is average, but the food we had was EXCELLENT. I had red fish napolese, and wife had chicken marsala; both had the most wonderful French sauces we have had in years made by a wonderful chef from Cairo.
