The floor-mounted faucet installation was worse than I could've imagined. To start, he used a black Sharpie on our new tile, marking where he would cut the hole. Luckily, I went in to check on things while he was in the basement and discovered he was planning to cut the hole too far into the corner, which would have meant moving the tub, just so the water would make it into the tub. Then, the hole he cut into the tile was too large. To make matters worse, he used white caulk to fill the holes that weren't covered by the faucet base plate. Also, the faucet leans noticeably (see pic of level against it). Soon after he left, we discovered it was leaking. We also discovered he'd taken our brushed nickel overflow cover, which he was supposed to swap with the chrome cover, as well as the chrome drain he removed to install the brushed nickel drain. My guess is he was hurrying to leave before my husband returned home to see his sloppy work. We called him back to stop the leak and to return the overflow and drain. I want to ask him if that sloppy installation would be acceptable in his home, if he was paying someone his hard-earned money to do it. I paid him, but really shouldn't have. Now we have to uninstall all of it and hire someone else to replace the ruined tile and reinstall the faucet, properly. The pictures say it all. Unless you just want pipes installed, look elsewhere.

We contacted A+ Plumbing because they were an authorized GE dealer and looked to have good reviews. They ordered one for us and contacted us when it came in to schedule installation. We never received a quote, we figured it should be around MSRP. On day of installation price was not discussed when they arrived so we were shocked when they completed and gave us the invoice with a charge for the unit of $4748 not the expected $2900. The cost of labor seemed fair to us and they were clean, neat and quick but we were SHOCKED at the invoice total. We were in a hurry to leave for an appointment, and with the heater installed, we felt all we could do was pay and get going. To further the pricing issue, my brother was so impressed with our water heater he ordered one online using our EXACT model number and received the same water heater for $1900. In fact, there are a number of appliance dealers on- line that are in the $2000 to $2500 range. When I contacted the owner of A+ Plumbing, he defended the price charged as middle man mark up and said that the unit my brother purchased would have been inferior because it was a different model number. Again, it is the exact same unit as there is no trailing letters like you would see if it had been manufactured as a specifically for a chain such as Costco, Wayfair, or Amazon. I did ask what A+'s cost was and they said they would check but we have not heard back. So, based on what we know, we were charged 165% mark-up above MSRP and roughly 240% of what we could have paid for the unit online.

The starting repair costs would be almost $4,000, however my usual HVAC company said the whole thing needed replacing. AWESOME! Just what I wanted to hear when we're expecting a foot of snow. Even better, he said Trane didn't make a model anymore that would fit in the existing closet. Solution: My Dad just had his entire system and duct work replaced about a month ago by Larry & Sons and they did a great job. So he told me to call them and see what a new system would run. Moe, the Sales Rep, came out that afternoon. He said he could fit a new system with the base models and the high efficiency ones. After going through the house, seeing what I had, didn't like currently, and what I wanted to have, we decided on one of the high-efficiency models, and got a final price worked out. Moe said they'd be here at 8:30AM on Wednesday. Problem Solved: Wednesday, right after we got a foot of snow, they showed up at 8:30AM (exactly) and went to work. They even brought in several heaters for me. These guys went above and beyond in every aspect of their work. They managed to do what Trane said wasn't possible. That evening, the foreman came up and told me they would have to come back and finish up the next day. They made sure we had plenty of heaters and cleaned up after themselves. Considering they'd been installing an all new system, in the freezing cold, and trudging through a ton of snow, you couldn't tell they'd been there. The next day they showed up again at 8:30AM promptly to finish. When they finished, they walked me through the house to make sure I was completely satisfied with each segment. They'd taken away all my old stuff. They'd dug my old cement pad out, where the outside fan sat, and built a new beautiful pad with about a foot of edging all the way around, surrounded by thick wood border. Next he showed me where they had installed some of the pipes and wires along the side of the house. It was well placed, and they even put a casing over the whole length that matched my vinyl siding. Then he showed me the closet where the main unit is. I couldn't believe my eyes. They'd removed all of Trane's equipment and connecting ducting. It looked like a laser had just gutted it and everything was new. He showed me how to change the filter, and where there was a light that kills anything that makes it through the filter. He showed me the return vents they enlarged upstairs to move the air better. Then he programmed the new LED thermostat, while showing me what he was doing so I could change it if I ever wanted. He turned the new system on and it was blowing nice and strong air; you could barely feel it before. The outside unit was just humming quietly. The past four days have been an amazing difference. The fan automatically adjusts how much air to push. It's even learning how long it takes for the temperature to change so when it comes to a time it's supposed to change (like being warmer in the morning), it actually starts the change gradually so it uses less power, and less noise. I'm sorry for such a long review, but I've never felt that just "It's great!" gives me any useful information. Larry & Sons did a fabulous job for my family. They put down floor protectors and wore booties over their boots, so when they were done, my house looks the same... plus a lot of well installed equipment.

We scheduled for 9am, he called as he was arriving EARLY! Two hours and both problems fixed with parts I had bought to do it myself. He even fixed my tub/shower diverter stem I was starting to have issues with. We discussed a few hacks to get some more life out of the toilet as hard water is doing what it does. I then asked about my kitchen sink/drain and he verified that I can get RO and a disposal into that space. Now I just need to budget! As for his hourly rate, it is totally fine for skilled and licensed labor. He didn't nickel and dime for the little things he used (tape, etc). I appreciate that.
