I came in here looking to get a line-up, last minute. I initially had no appointment but Maestro let me know I could sign myself up for an upcoming opening online. Overall the cut was great, he is good with the fade, but the atmosphere could be more comforting. All the towels and items make the small space more crowded, and there were theater movies on the television screen. On-par with the "chaotic" atmosphere, Maestro was taking appointments as he cut. As I have sensitive skin, I'm not a fan of barbers touching their phones then toughing my freshly cut face, but he was courteous and washed his hands, although I did ask. Lastly, I've never in my life paid so much for a cut, but it's on par with the other barbershops in the area. Although, the seem to provide a more relaxed atmosphere. The worst customer service and hair cut I ever had! I made and appointment and waited 30 minutes to be seen. When I told him to cut the sides shorter. He replied by saying that it wasn't what I told him. And by cutting it shorter, it was like doing the fade all over again. At the end, he didn't fade the sides the way I wanted. Plus, he didn't even cut my hair on top and I didn't say anything because he had an attitude. In addition, the "Precision Haircut" included shampoo and conditioner which I didn't get. I paid $46 including tip for a hair cut I didn't like. I don't even look like I had a hair cut. What a waste of time and money. I don't recommend this barber. Bad service! read more

I had worst experinece here. I booked appointment at for 2:30pm, gave call and mentioned that I would be little late, arrived at 2:35pm. I waited for 10mins for my turn, waiting was fine with me. But when I tried to explain what I'm looking, Maestro didn't listen to me properly and went with haircut in his own way. I clearly mentioned that I didn't like my previous haircut so trying new shop. Even for behind head I asked to clean properly. I ended up with haircut which is not I wanted and also from attached picture you can clearly see that it was very bad job behind head. I cannot even ask for correction, since he cut more hair on left side than right side and I cannot see what is on behind head. There were couple of people waiting for him, it seemed family/friends. I can for sure say that Maestro was in hurry to send me ASAP for people waiting for him. If you're busy and have plans, and cannot spend couple minutes to listen to customer and give proper haircut, then you shouldn't take appointment. Rashaad was legit! I was visiting Chicago from Kansas City for my birthday and got this scheduled as a surprise before we went out (apparently my beard wasn't up to par ha) I was late getting there because of traffic and had only been scheduled for a beard sculpting. Rashaad was cool enough to take the time to shave my whole head on top of the beard sculpting I was scheduled for, even though he had quite a few other appointments to get to. He went through the trouble/out of his way to give me a good experience and so the least I could do is leave a review to show my appreciation. That is one more reason I will be back to Chicago. Also worth mentioning, people had commented on my beard and how good it looked while we were there and even when I arrived back to work on Monday. It was my first time to go to a barber ever, so if it's your first time to check out a barber, this is the right place to go to get a good experience whether you live their or are from out of town. Super easy to set up an appointment through the website. They are currently located on the second floor in a nice and private building (I think there is a nail salon right below them that we accidentally walked into. I wonder how often that happens) :) We walked and and quickly greeted and assisted. I was going to go walk around but decided to relax in front of a gigantic tv screen in the mist comfortable luxurious chairs. I watched the barber from my comfy chair......The barber was funny, charming and very knowledgable and so very detail oriented in the quality of the shave. As a bearded man, I do not treat myself enough to a proper trimming, much to my wife's displeasure. I had gotten a big ultimatum to clean up, so quickly searched "beard barber", which is how I found Maestoshave. I have to say, when I signed up for a "beard sculpt", I figured it was just a way to spin "beard cleanup" but I was wrong. I had my haircut by this gentleman a while ago. He is an excellent barber. That being said the experience was lacking. I signed up for a student discount and he was very skeptical of my student identification card and reluctantly gave me the discount. If I knew he was going to give me a hard time about that I would have went elsewhere. It was difficult to hold a conversation as well during the haircut. He treats his clients insanely well; so well that many of them become repeat customers. There are a lot of times when I need a last-minute cut and I didn't plan ahead very well and he always figures out a way to make it work which is super clutch and unique. I am very particular about who cuts my hair. Ever since some barber in the 90s thought it would be a good idea to part my hair down the middle, I've been wary of people wielding scissors near my head. So I always put off getting a cut until i start looking a bit ragged. It's a bad habit. I needed a haircut desperately, and was able to call and make a reservation for a couple hours later. When I got there, I knew I was at the right place. You know how women are always getting their hair done at places that look done-up for magazine shoots and movie stars? This is kind of like that...but for dudes. Modern, black leather furniture, multiple large TVs, the offer of a beverage when I walked in the door. These are all things that I don't look for in a barber shop, but things that I love once I realize are there. The place was pretty quiet when I got in, so I was seen immediately. Maestro asked what I wanted done, and that's usually where I get the anxiety. I never know how to describe how I want my hair to look, and honestly that's probably because I'm clueless. So, after explaining to him that he'd be wearing the scissors on his nose if he parted my hair down the middle, I said "you're the expert, I trust you to make me look good. I need something that can be professional, yet also young and fun." Twenty or so minutes later, I looked in the mirror and was happier than I've ever been leaving a hair cut. I could tell that he was carefully crafting as he worked, and looking at the end result, I have no doubt that the man is an artist in his own right. But was $55 for the most basic cut alive .... Even all around. Then had nerve to say he was giving me a discount. It's obvious this guy is a good barber but a bad business man. I was given a coupon for a shave and a haircut by my girlfriend so I went to check out Maestros. When scheduling online (very convenient, by the way) I noticed that the shave was an hour long session and thought that although it would be relaxing, it had to be a mistake. Well, sure enough, it was an hour long shave and it was absolutely perfect! Maestro knows what he's doing and shaves in a way that caused me next to no irritation. With the grain, against the grain, sideways, he didn't miss a hair. After the shave came the haircut. So every man has experienced a time where the girlfriend, wife or significant other has trotted off to get their "pampering on". Well this trip to Chicago, I was myopically focused on getting my own swagger on! So walking from the train station to our home away from home for the next couple of days, I past this place; a place exactly like what I was looking for - a "man spa". I went online, signed up and made my reservation, said by to my breakfast companions and off I went to get my fluffy done! The first thing you notice is a test to figure out where exactly this place is. It's not super easy to figure out, and once in, it's not super obvious that this is what you've signed up for. Why? Because the decor and condition of the room is not what you would picture when thinking of a high-end men's barbershop. So I sheepishly ask if I'm in the right place and all is good. I'm here. Okay. Go with it I'm thinking - after-all what's the worst that could happen in this historic up-and-coming yuppy area of Old Town (before I see him whip out the straight razor!)? Once it's my "turn", I spring out of the my super comfortable leather seat (he's got recliners, sofas, etc. (everything that can make a grown man get super lazy) and leaped into the barber chair. Almost immediately I started feeling relaxed as he went over all the goodness that's coming my way. First things first, he tells me. Let's get the skin ready for the shave. So after reclining me back, he goes off to get a series of super hot towels and wraps my face. This is followed by a cold towel. Somewhere in there he whips out the shaving butter and works that into the face like he's preparing pizza on my face. Man, this is cool. This goes on for a while before he starts to go to work on the whiskers with the straight razor. This guy doesn't just do a few swipes and he's done. Oh no, it's obsessive compulsive of perfection. All in all, this process is every bit of 35 or so minutes. My face feels like a million bucks. Surely he's done. NOPE. Then starts the haircut. Clipping here, trimming there and then a truck load of funky scissor/straight razor flipping and cutting that I've never had before. All that for an additional 25 minutes of care and pampering. And what's it look like? Amazing. My hair has never laid down so well, never look so natural and never felt so soft. To top it all off, all this was under $75! But the real test was when I came back to the room and revealed my new found man goodness to the wife......(wait for it).....AMAZING! Okay! I'm in! This is good! I'm back baby! Gents, if you are looking for something a bit more than "just a cut" or "just a shave", this place is the bees-knees. Although I'm tempted to give this 4 out of 5 for the decor (in all fairness, it's more of a tenant landlord thing, but there's still more that could be done) this service is top of the charts and just now way you can beat it.
