I will try and keep this brief and touch on key points... Ordered a dress and blazer online. Dress did not work out. Went to Fresno (live in Lemoore) to return item. Lady at store processed return, but asked me to swipe a payment form for return and I said that's odd, because normally refund will be credited to the original form of payment. Asked for a receipt in the event there were issues. I was in Fresno for a few more hours and decided to check my account that I had swiped for my return. I was charged instead of refunded. Went back to the store and asked for a manager. Keith, the merchandising manager, "helped" me. He berated me, said that it was my fault and I was being aggressive. This psycho should not be in customer service. He had a breakdown because he was clueless and kept saying he didn't know what to do. He was attacking me and didn't want to be held accountable for the store's mistake. I complained to corporate and if I don't hear back I will complain again. That man needs to be fired and the lady who processed my "refund" needs training. I will NEVER buy anything from Madewell again. They lack customer service and this store in particular employs the dregs of society. Keith is a nightmare! I can only imagine how he treats people that work with him. I brought my mother into the shop because she needed a pair of jeans and hasn't had a new pair in years! A salesperson/manager on the floor , Jessica was incredibly sweet and beyond helpful. We didn't know what style, color or size mom was -but she made the selection painless and easy. Not to mention very fast! My mother left with a pair of jeans she absolutely LOVED in under 15min. I found this madewell to be pretty unimpressive. As compared to other Madewell stores, this one is somewhat smaller and has a very limited selection. PLEASE make sure you check online sales before coming into this store. For some reason, sometimes the store sales doesn't match those online; however, if there is a sale online, they will honor it. I came in a couple weeks ago and Madewell was having an extra 30% off sale items online, but nothing was posted in-store and when I went to check out, it wasn't acknowledged as well. I pulled out my phone and told them that the online store was having an extra 30% off sale, and they changed the price of the item. It's just annoying that you have to check if the online store offers a bigger discount. Tips: 1) Madewell now sells men's clothing online! 2) Become a Madewell insider and get free shipping online! 3) If you have a student ID, you get an extra discount on full-priced items! read more

I knew about Madewell in Fig Garden for quite awhile now, but never had a real need to go there until today. I have followed the company on Instagram, and when the pictures of socks showed up, my need certainly shot up. It seems that all of my socks had become holey, and these socks looked appealing. Appealing enough to make a visit to the store in Fig Garden Village. I got the socks (they have quite a large selection) and found a sweater that also appealed. The store has beautiful classic merchandise. It's laid out well with good visual merchandising. The service, though, leaves a whole lot to be desired. The clerks certainly didn't do anything to make any sales. Since I taught sales in another life, I knew there was a lot better way to make more sales than I was experiencing. The reviews of the customer service thus far are correct. The associates do not acknowledge me when I am in the store, perhaps because I do not look a certain way. I do notice other customers who have walked in while I am in there, who look differently than I do, and the associates engage with them, and offer to help. It is as though I do not fit their profile, and they believe I do not have the money to buy things there. When I try things on, and end up not purchasing items which did not fit, some of the employees look and the stack of clothes like I wasted their time. I have to try things on since the Madewell runs a size larger than other brands, so I have to size down. They talk amongst themselves, or keep a close eye on me. Never have I walked into a store and felt that way. The only time the ask me anything is to take the items I have in my hands to purchase up to the front to hold it for me. I still like the brand, however, I believe this is something I will also mention to corporate. read more

I see in the past that there are negative reviews regarding customer service. Either the team has changed or the training has, because I've consistently had very helpful, attentive and friendly service since I began shopping at Madewell regularly this summer. After my experience at Madewell and seeing these reviews, I'm really surprised. I don't leave Yelp reviews much anymore, but after my experience, I had to! I first went to Madewell on Friday and was immediately helped. I told one of the girls that I was looking for jeans as I've had tons of trouble with finding the right pair. She gave me the rundown on how the jeans fit and then gave me a couple sizes of jeans I was interested in. I was asked a few times by other girls how everything was working out too. They said if I would like another style or size to ask them. Never felt like I was fending for myself. I ended up going with a certain pair and was on my way soon after. Very happy with my purchase. Then the next day when I was wearing them, I noticed a small tear in them. I had already taken the tags off so I thought I was out of luck, but my husband insisted we go back so we did. I didn't demand an exchange or anything, I just explained the situation and the girl happily exchanged them!! I thought for sure they would say they couldn't do anything, but I was wrong. I love Madewell, but this location really needs to expand the sizes they carry. I often order online instead of purchasing in store because of this issue. Wish they were more inclusive of every body type at this store, instead of catering to size XS-M. read more

This was by far my worst customer service experience of all time!!! Employees are inattentive, not helpful, and rude!! My wife used to like madewell when we used to live in San Francisco and she was very exited when she found out the madewell have a store in fresno, we went to the store on 07/08/2017 around 12:30 pm and no one even offered to help us with anything. We picked some stuff and went to pay for it and the employee was checking out a lady who was buying one pair of jeans, we stood there for a solid 10 minuets while she was chatting with the customer about how to wash her jeans and about new designs while we are waiting without even acknowledging that we are waiting. Finally another employee came to check us out. Employees of the store have an attitude problem and we will never be returning to the store. Also I will be emailing Managment of madewell about the incident cuz I believe this is not a madewell trend based on previous experience in other stores of madewell. read more

I love Madewell, but I am continually disappointed by the service I receive when I go into this location's store. Constantly, the girls are chatting in the corner and do not offer to help. And when you do speak to them, they are standoffish and rude. I would be a much more frequent customer at my local Madewell if I felt comfortable going into the store. I know I am not alone in this opinion, as many others I know have felt similar after going there just once. I am able to go into the store, tell them what I am looking for and these girl always make sure I leave with a smile + a bag full of beautiful clothes. I have been a loyal customer of Madewell for many years and was excited that this store opened close to home. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter because I won't continue to shop here. The staff is so inattentive and rude, it's laughable how little they seem to care about their customers. It's almost as if the employees feel privileged to be working an such an elite store (really? No, delusional. But that seems to be the Fresno attitude) and treat the customer as if they are an inconvenience-like their jobs don't depend on sales? Everytime I come in it's rare if they even acknowledge me, so getting help with anything else is out of the question. The last time I was there, it appeared as if a higher up/ manager was visiting the store and she was just as bad. Rude, unhelpful and unfriendly. It was my very first time in Madewell this weekend, and I had a GREAT experience! I went in 3 different times (to check out and try on different styles) and every time I encountered different people. Every time I walked in, I was immediately greeted and asked if I was looking for anything particular. Both girls who helped me out asked me what style i like, what their favorite styles are, and helped me figure out what size i would need and kept checking in on me when i would try on jeans. They offered to order me a pair since they didn't have my size there, so they helped me through that. I highly recommend Madewell and this store! Everyone there is so nice and helpful! read more

I was in the dressing room and asked two young female sales associates standing right in front of the dressing rooms if they had a different size in a blouse I got from the sales section. They told me that because it was from that sales section that that was probably all that they had in that blouse and did not check for me. This store is very small and the dressing rooms are literally five feet away from the sales section, yet these young girls couldn't take the time to go look for me. I ended up putting all my clothes on and walking the grueling five feet to the sales section. Not only was the size I was requesting there but there were lots of that type of blouse in multiple sizes. I don't know if these girls were just being lazy or rude to me. I can't believe anyone would post a bad review for this store! I have had nothing but wonderful customer service from each one of the girls that works there. The manager always takes care of me, and if she isn't there, then one of the other girls usually chats with me and helps me find whatever it is I am looking for. I love Madewell clothing and am happy to have the new addition to Fresno. The gal working in the front when I walked in was very nice greeting us. The store is small and kept neat and very organized! Makes it easy to browse through the collections. On the other hand the overall service was poor. I was looking towards the back of the store at the shoes for awhile. There were two associates in the back corner just talking to each other (I've worked in customer service and would understand if what they were talking about was work related or of importance but it wasn't the case?) I picked up a pair of shoes and was checking it out for awhile wanting to purchase... even though they were right next to me they didn't bother to ask if I needed assistance. It wasn't till after a few minutes that I just decided to put the shoe back. I was waiting to get to the other side of the store to look at the clothing while they were standing there blocking the walkway. Service especially for a new store is crucial, this wasn't the best first experience in this location. read more

Madewell is truly made well. Went in for a cute pair of jeans, and ended up walking out with about half the store! The blonde girl Alyssa was so helpful and very stylish. She helped me to find a great back to school outfit and a bag to go with. If it's not the quality that will get you to come back, it will definitely be the customer service. read more

Madewell has such cute clothes and great sale items, but the staff ruins the shopping experience. Every time I go into the store, no one greets me or asks if I need help. Most of the time, the staff are chatting amongst themselves while shoppers are trying to find the things they need, without any offered help. Decent in-store selection. Terrible customer service. Most of the employees walked around miserably with stank faces. One of the girls (short blonde) gave me the DIRTIEST look as I perused the store and made my way to back of the store (sale selection). Not once had I been greeted or smiled at until I had an item in hand, and it was then that I had a fitting room started by one (out of two) accommodating employee. I'm more than sure the manager was also on the sales floor that day as well, but she didn't seem phased by her employees gossiping and sharing negative personal opinions regarding females on social media rather than doing their job. I had to listen to that same unhappy blonde girl voice her immature thoughts on how and why she can't stand this or that female as I'm in the fitting room wondering why she and her co-worker can't fold clothes silently. They continued their inappropriate gossip and discussion about their weekend plans even after I stepped out. I worked in retail for 10 years and this behavior would've warranted a write up. I later called and complained to a person on the phone who claimed to be the manager. I still truly doubt she cares about what I had to say and after seeing similar comments here, I'm sure things won't change for Madewell. Just another reason why I prefer online shopping. read more
