The dresses at Madeline's are beautiful, and my bridal party purchased six dresses here. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. One of the dresses was originally meant to be in a light color, but plans changed. The dress was ordered and paid for (by my mom), but it was never picked up -- in fact, the store hadn't even received it yet. I asked if I could change the color to black so it would match the other bridesmaids. The owner told me absolutely no refunds or exchanges under any circumstances. Considering the store made thousands of dollars from us, and this particular dress wasn't in their possession yet, I think it's unfair that I wasn't allowed to make a simple change. A little flexibility would have gone a long way, especially for a bridal party spending this much money. Because of this, I would only recommend shopping here if you are absolutely, 100% certain of every detail before you pay. Once they have your money, there is no flexibility. My friend and I had an amazing experience at Madeline's. What incredible service!!! - starting at the front door where we were warmly welcomed and assisted with removing our boots. Even though we did not have an appointment and the store was busy that day, they accommodated us and set us up with 2 of the nicest, most welcoming and patient salespeople. Ava and Talin really care about their customers and it is clear that they have expertise and passion for their work. In addition to what we selected, they brought out other mother of the groom dresses for us to try on based on what they knew would be suitable for our body types. They also made alteration suggestions so that the dresses would meet our vision/comfort level. We never felt pressured to buy or rushed despite the fact that another couple was waiting for assistance. We found 2 suitable dresses each and will be back with our future daughters in law to make the final selection. Thank you for such a pleasant experience!!! read more

I wish there was a ZERO. Gave 1 star because the girl who assisted me to buy a wedding guest dress was very helpful and polite. I drove 1.5 hrs to this store because I recently moved out of Toronto and this store is all I knew for this type of dresses. I used to love it here. Now, I wish I read thw reviews before spending any money there. I was cleared that I need a dress ready as I didn't have time for any alterations. After quite a few dresses I was offered one that recently got on sale. I tried and love it! I was in between 2 styles tho so I put them on hold. Next day first thing I called to pay over the phone and plan to pick it up on a later day. My husband coming from Toronto got my dress and it was in poor condition. I was explained that the dress went on sale but is new and the deess I tries on was new! The dress I got has one breast-pad missing and the other one unstitched halfway, some of the FRONT beads missing and a small part on the side of the dress is ripped off. I put in in hold when the atore was closing for the day and pay the next day so unless they allowed other person to try it on while on hold and by accident damaged the dress, this is not the same dress. I inspected the dress and the dress was new! I was told the whole Nicoletta dress collection was on sale (even in the website) but they will inspect the dress before sending it to me of course. So I called, mostly because I was disappointed WOW WHAT A MANAGER!!! I explained the situation, still calm and polite. Her first answer was... "well you got a dress on sale of course it is going to be damage, if you want me to fix it You have to bring the dress back and I will charge you for it". Still nice I explained that the condition of the dress I put on hold and purchased was perfect, this was not it. She proceeded to say " if you pay $200 for a $600 dress is because is damage or it wouldn't go on sale" Notice? Not even an apology, let me see what went wrong?, sorry for the inconvenience and of course a condescending tone.... At this point I asked to speak with the manager and she gave me the surprise that she was the manager. I explained that I don't have time to travel there to get it fix, budget wasn't the problem when I went to buy the dress, it happened that the one I liked was on sale. AND I spend a good amount of the conversation explaining that I need a dress that fits me with no alterations!!!! I don't want to complaint about the store because the girls that day were nice and the gentleman that helps on entry is kind.. but WOW this Manager is something else. I honestly wished I read the reviews before walking into this boutique. My sister and I walked in on a Friday mid afternoon with every posssible intention on leaving with not one but TWO quite expensive dresses. We walked in and were nicely greeted by a gentlemen (whom we assume is security) and removed our shoe, put our drinks to the side and explained our situation. I was looking for a Sherri Hill dress for a family member abroad, and a Portia and Scarlett dress for myself. He introduced me to another young lady and once again, I explained my situation out to her. I showed her photos of the lady I was shopping for and she preceded to pull out dress that may be of interest to us. I decided to FaceTime my cousin (with permission from the girl) so that I can show her the dresses. So far so good. The girl was a huge help. No more than three minutes it, a tall skinny side man with darker hair comes over and decides he's expertises was require (it wasn't) once again, I explained my situation out, our budget and that I had emailed earlier to inquire. Showed him photos of the Sherri Hill dresses. I didn't bring up the Portia and Scarlett just yet because I figured let's tackle one thing at a time. He looks at the dress and tells me, "oh I can order the dress for you online but I'll need the measurements for you cousin"... Ah, sir... if I wanted the dress ordered, I could have done that myself at the comfort of my own home. It's not the first time we've ordered dresses. We were shopping with an open book with what there was to offer. We were looking for OPTIONS at your boutique. What does ordering online offer me if I know I can order the dress online myself and remove the boutique as a middle man. He then proceeds to tell me the cost in GBP as if it may be off our budget list. Yes we had a budget but WE WERE ALSO LOOKING FOR OTHER OPTIONS. The girl before him was doing an amazing job with showing us dresses we liked and in our budget range. He made the experience horrible and my sister and I didn't stick around to try the Portia and Scarlett dresses. We felt very undervalued as guests into the establishment. We were in and out in 10 minutes. Not everyone's money is valued here. It didn't take me long to see that. There were families that got the royal treatment based on the fact that their parents were there with credit cards on hand. My sister and I came alone and the experience was quite distasteful. Unfortunately I cannot give any positive marks to Madeline's boutique. To make a long story short, they demanded a $150 restocking fee for a dress that only cost $400. I consider this a total cash grab. I went dress shopping on October 28, for my brother's wedding. I was trying on dresses with a junior stylist, who was great, but she forgot to explain one crucial thing. The return policy (or lack thereof) was never explained to me. I was pressured into a deal in the store that I was told would only last the hour. Leaving me to have to make a quick decision. Despite this, I decided to go home with the dress with the intention of trying it on later because you can't take pictures in the boutique at all. When I was cashed out, nothing was explained to me, and the receipt wasn't handed to me; it was put directly into the garment bag. Fast forward one week, and the dress had been hanging in the garment bag untouched. I decided to try it on again and realized I had made a horrible mistake. I called the store to figure out my next move for returning the dress, and that's when the policy was finally disclosed to me. If I had known the policy the day I purchased the dress, I would have never taken it home. I spoke with someone who said the manager would call me later on, but I didn't hear back for the rest of the day. The next day, I called again and was told I could speak to the owner. They never called me back. On the third day of calling, I finally spoke to someone over the phone who was rude (I wish I got her name), and she assured me the owners would call me. To my surprise, I never heard back. Finally, I got to speak with a manager again, Monique, who assured me she would do her best to help me, and I truly believe she did just that. Of course, it took two days to get any sort of information. My options for a dress I felt pressured to purchase were that they would take it back, but I had to pay a $150 restocking fee, also known as a cash grab, for a dress that was taken home off the rack. If the dress had been ordered in, that would be fair, but it was purchased from an in-stock selection and not even taken out of the garment bag for more than 10 minutes. I asked if I could speak with the owners, as that was an option given to me prior. I was told, "Well, you can't speak to the owners of Gucci." Then why promise that the owners would call me in the first place? All in all I was forced to accept the $150 restocking fee because it was better than holding onto a dress that would never be worn. However, I will never set foot in Madeleine's again. For a company that has been around for 26 years, you'd think they would know to explain a policy and allow for their errors to be corrected. I have to say, I was so excited before going to Madeline's. I saved up and wanted the best dress ever to feel like a princess! At the time, I had a wedding to go to and wanted to wear it then. I went to the store with my now ex-bf and tried on a few dresses. I really loved one, but the saleswoman there was pushy about another dress saying that it was more unique, had pockets etc and the one I loved was too common. And somehow my ex agreed with her too. It didn't fit me very well either, but she mentioned that a bit of tailoring would make it perfect for my body. So I got convinced into buying that dress (which I regretted soon after). The real problem arose when I took it to my tailor and they said theres no way they can alter the dress to fit me because of the backless design. They mentioned that the bust was too big for my body and the salesperson there should have pointed it out and picked out a better fitting dress. They refused to tailor any part of it saying there's no point and it would just ruin the dress, and they told me to return it. I ended up wearing something else for the wedding anyway. And I called up Madeline's and asked if they could exchange it for another dress. I didn't mind paying a small fee. But they flatly refused (also because the pandemic hit us a few months later, and they said I called too late). Now It's been around 2 years and I've never worn the dress (in spite of having a few occasions where I could have) and never will, and every time I look at it I just feel so saddened. I am really surprised by the negative reviews! I've only had positive experiences at Madeline's. Both times I've needed a dress from here I've been pregnant. I will tell you about my most recent experience : I came in--very pregnant with my toddler in a massive stroller which I parked near the entrance. The store was PACKED with people buying dresses for wedding season and prom season. Still, I was helped right away and everyone was really sweet to my son who was dancing in the middle of the store. I ended up finding the perfect dress and was told alternations would be around $100. I opted to get them done at the store, and was back the following week. I had not made an appointment, but they squeezed me in. There were 3 fittings in total. Each time everybody was very friendly. Madeline's has a beautiful selection of evening gowns and I hope to have a black tie event when I'm not pregnant so I can go back and buy something sequinned ! read more

They are digging their heels in , standing by their no return policy, even under these unusual circumstances. Has any else asked for a refund ? My daughter and I headed to this boutique from 2.5 hours away because of its reputation for the "best selection". I emailed in advance to set up an appointment for her but was told we didn't need one. We arrived by 11:30 am on a Wednesday to be told upon entering that room there was a 2 hour wait for the dressing room and that you didn't get in the cue for one until you had 5 dresses chosen. Needless to say the race was on! The dresses are so tightly packed into this incredibly small store, mostly covered in plastic and with so many people crammed into this space it felt like a competition to find a dress. We remained positive as I wanted the experience to be memorable for my daughter. In the end we waited 3 hours and 15 mins to get in the dressing room (absolutely ridiculous with no where to even sit down!). When she did get in she was told she had 20 mins max to try them on and to be with quick. I could barely see her in the mirrors because of so many people around the mirrors, there was no time to take in the dresses and PICTURES ARE NOT ALLOWED. I found the whole experience so disheartening and we left sweaty, disappointed and like we'd wasted our day. The dresses start at approximately $500, and to barely be given time to look at yourself and not be able to take a picture to go back and think about was not the experience we'd hoped for. In the end we went 2 blocks away to Esti, were treated like gold, had time to try on and see the dresses in a beauttiful 3 angled mirror and had couches to relax on as she changed. Esti gave her free earrings, guaranteed price matching and had a much nicer, more visible selection. Madeline's - you need to change the way you do business!!! My suggestions would be by appointment only to avoid the crowded rushed effect, better mirrors, more seating areas and if you are going to pack the store so tightly hand out buzzers so people can leave and come back when it's their turn. read more

Huge selection but at prom season store is insanely busy and crowded. They manage to pack in a lot of girls and change rooms but the wait for a free one can be super long. Everyone takes off their shoes at the door and is free to roam around the actual selection can be too much. I think anyone can find a dress here but if in the busy season it can be very crowded and unpleasant. Not their fault but doesn't leave a warm and fuzzy feeling. I was dressed casually. While my mom was in the change room, I approached the staff member assisting her to ask her to bring more dresses for my mom to try on. I have known the owners of Madeline's for over 10 years since there first store and I was never disappointed with the selection of wonderful dresses and customer service. My recent experiences was when my girlfriend needed a dress for a wedding banquet. My only regret is traveling across town with her for a particular look that couldn't be found in Yorkville of all places. Madeline's took great care with fitting and alterations. Worst experience ever! Lady walked into my fitting room without knocking and accused me of taking photos of the dress. (I was half naked when she came in) Note: there were no mirrors inside the fitting room. They said no photos of the dresses unless i am buying, which was reasonable. So i did not take any photos whatsoever and i only used my phone to discuss with my fiance about the prices. One old short lady opened my fitting room door without even knocking and told me no photos allowed?? 2. when i came out with the dress she said to the girl who was helping me if i was taking too long in there (the girl replied to her 10minutes only). After the girl told me they limit 20minutes per customer. 3. The prices being over 20% more markup compared to other evening dress retailers in Toronto comes along with this kind of service just doesnt make any sense. read more

I'd love to comment on the selection and quality of dresses at Madeline's boutique however, we were not permitted past the door. When we got to the boutique the door was locked. The sales associate came to the door and asked us what we were looking for. We said bridesmaid dresses and he said they don't "really do" bridesmaid dresses so explained we were looking for elegant black gowns, all different, not the same matching dresses. He then asked us what our budget was and when put on the spot we answered $500. This wasn't a hard budget. He responded that all dresses start at $600 and up. We said that we would still like to look and he said "ok wait here 5 minutes", and closed the glass door and locked it. He did not allow us to wait inside. So we immediately left. The Italian manager is the most arrogant, aloof man who ever thought he had any self importance. They don't do any returns, even if the dress has a manufacturing problem. We called in a panic looking for a last minute appointment to look at prom dresses. Even though they were fully booked, they squeezed us in. They were welcoming and helpful when we got there and set us up in a changeroom. Patrice was our main assistant but we had a few ladies help us. Patrice was amazing and helped my daughter find her perfect dress! We went to Madeline on a snowy day last week to buy some prom dress. The dress collection is good, it is very expensive though, and the store culture is very snobbish. The moment we went in, we put on some shoe covers which was provided at the door. Then a guy, maybe the owner, came to us and asked us to take our shoes off because apparently, the shoe covers were not waterproof. First, I told him it is very inconvenient to take those high knee boots off and not nice to ask the customers to take off their shoes and walk barefoot in the store. But he insisted. Then, I told him if he wants clients to take off their shoes, the salespersons have to take off their shoes because it makes customers more comfortable which he refused! My daughter wanted the dress so bad, otherwise, I would never buy anything from a snob who has his own fancy dress shoes on and forcing people to walk barefoot. They didn't offer us sizing and just handed a tailor's address after spending more than $1000 on a prom dress. I will never go back there, walking barefoot because they did not bother to buy water-proof shoe covers and forcing their customers to walk barefoot to belittle them. Today we gave Madeline's a second chance. I promise you, there won't be a third time! Contrary to the other posts, they do NOT have a huge selection. The store is very tiny and you're not allowed to look at half of their dresses on your own. You are only allowed to tell them what you want or what you're looking for, and then they'll pull it out for you. That's not a convenient way to shop, especially when you're looking to spend $$$$! The worst part of our experience was the husband/owner! He is extremely ARROGANT!! He was condescending and rude to more than one customer. He wasn't just having a bad day, he was actually rude during our first visit as well. His wife Madeline helped us out and she was just ok (nothing to really write about). The customer service is great if you are paired with a passionate sales rep. My first time visiting, I happened to be late for an event and knew I had to leave with something to wear. I am conflicted because I really appreciate being able to purchase brands Madeline's carries as I generally have to buy them online but I sincerely didn't have a very good experience. I purchased a $700 gown and was told they do not hem their product complimentary. The mere $15 was not a deterrent, the vanishing customer service was. So, I reluctantly took the dress and paid for the hem. They barely said goodbye when I left, the atmosphere totally changed, and I now felt like a dollar sign. A customer experience ends at the curb, not at the cash register. Had I felt valued and respected, I would have been happy to shop with them again. I visited this store on a dry clean sunny day and yes, they ask you to remove your shoes before heading up to the second floor which is carpeted. My problem was that their grey worn carpet looked less sanitary than my shoes so I hesitated. Fortunately they do have those blue hospital cloth slippers. You don't feel glamorous with them on but hey, us women will do anything to find our perfect dress. I was helped by Racquel who was friendly, knowledgeable and responsive. I went to Madeline's today in search of a long black gown to officially transform myself in a bridesmaid for my close friend's wedding in September and I could not believe my luck! It was my first stop in this dress hunt and I found my dress at this store. Madeline and her staff are fantastic. I told them exactly what I was looking for and they immediately pulled 6 styles in black for me to try on. As well, they showed me styles in other colours that could be ordered in black. The overall selection at Madeline's is to die for if you are a dress lover or need something spectacular for a special occasion. They carry tons of dresses that are beautiful for bridesmaids or mother of the bride or groom. They also have funky and sexy party dresses for the prom or any classy upscale parties. The prices at this store are not inexpensive but you are paying for high quality - both in the dress you are purchasing and in the service the staff are providing to you (both with assisting in the selection process and the alterations). However, I did notice they had a HUGE rack of dresses on sale for $99 each, which they apparently have all the time. Overall, I was very happy with the reception I received in this store and the dress I purchased. Now I know I can go to my friend's wedding and march down that aisle with confidence and feeling great in my attire. read more

This place has all the same dresses most boutiques like Want have, plus extremely arrogant staff. I visited this place twice to look for a sexy evening dress for my mother. The first time, I went by myself on a rainy day in the winter, and I was asked to leave my boots on the nasty front carpet littered with other people's shoes. The floors in there (that I could see) were white tile, which is very easy to clean. I did not feel like removing my shoes, so I left. The second time I went to Madeline's it was because my mother insisted on looking at what they have. This was also in the winter but on a dry, sunny day, and I was surprised to see that again, there was a mess of shoes at the front, and people in the store in their socks and BARE FEET! This is so disgusting and unhygienic, and frankly, ridiculous for a place that sells high end dresses. After reading the reviews I found that this "shoes off" practice is also forced upon their customers in the summer!!! Purchased a prom dress for my daughter this week .jan 2020 from Madeline's. Service was outstanding and selection is large. We noticed signs throughout the shop about Price Match guarantee. This does leave you with a feeling of shopping a store with the best price. After our dress purchase a quick search showed me the same dress was $100 less expensive at another shop. I reached out to them same day about how to recover the $$. I received a quick response informing me to receive the Price Match guarantee the dress had to be in a stock at the competing location and in ..... Same maker Same style Same size Same colour This would be nearly impossible as Madalines has to order in many dresses for sizes etc they don't carry too. Policy should be on maker and style # only. Basically this is just a marking ploy and would be near impossible with these criteria to ever get $$ back on their price gauging. Be warned and check around before purchase as there are NO refunds either! Go support a different small business who values your purchase and advertised policies. read more

I went to Madeline's during my lunch break to find an evening dress for my wedding. The store seemed a bit busy and cramped - the non-wedding dresses are all on the main floor. The first room had dresses sorted by color. They were hard to look through as they were all protected with plastic, but a lot of them still dragged on the floor. I went through the entire room with not one associate greeting me. The second room seemed like it had more clearance items. There was a nice Asian girl who finally acknowledged me and asked me if I needed help. Most of the clearance dresses were in large sizes. I had one dress in my hand and this one young girl associate approached me in a very snobby manner and asked "Can I put that in the fitting room for you?" which I find rude as I have worked in retail - she could have at least asked me if I was finding everything ok...I asked her what the price of the dress was since there was no tag...then she seemed very hesitant and rushed to help me. She was even more disrespectful to me when I told her the dress did not fit. I will not be returning. read more

I went to Madeline's with my mom hoping to find her a dress for my brother's wedding. We didn't have an appointment, so we stuck to the main floor. They had a great selection of dresses, but an unfortunately rude staff. Not only do they have 3 fitting rooms that people waited over an hour to get into, but they barely pay attention to you until you actually make it known that you're about to buy something. Then all of a sudden their bitter attitudes turn into utterly fake kindness. Nevertheless, we found a dress we like and the man who works there (which I believe could possibly be Madeline's husband) said he would order the dress in for us in my mom's size, but he couldn't call them until Monday. So, he took down our info and said he would call us back with the final information. Monday came and went and no call..... so, I called him on Tuesday to get a status update on the dress. Much to my surprise (said with extreme sarcasm), not only did he forget, but he had no clue of who I was or what dress I was talking about. So, long story short... I ordered my daughters prom dress back in December and then Covid hit. The dress was at the boutique but my daughters prom has since been cancelled. Although a refund has not been issued, I understand that they are trying to keep their doors open. The service we received when we picked up the dress yesterday was amazing. They gave us an extremely warm welcome upon entering the store and made sure that we were provided with a personalized experience before leaving their store. We left the store feeling much better about our purchase and understood that this pandemic has hit small businesses hard. I would definitely shop there again. read more

Today I took my daughter prom dress shopping and we decided to visit Madeline's Boutique. We were greeted by a really polite and kind worker named Patrice. She made us feel really welcomed and was extremely helpful and patient during the dress shopping experience. For some context, the store has a ridiculous policy outlining that no customers may take pictures of the dresses they try or like until they have made their choice and will 100% buy it that day. My daughter had found the dress she really liked and there was only one left in her size. I had asked if they could put it aside because we wanted to see if there was anything else she may like before spending a large amount of money on a dress. They only hold a dress if you pay a non-refundable deposit on half of the price of the dress, meaning if we don't purchase the dress at the store and we find another dress elsewhere they keep that deposit either way. Now I was completely fine with paying this deposit for my daughter, just to make sure she finds the perfect dress. Once we had chosen the dress, we were told that my daughter could take a picture of herself in the dress. Afterwards, we were talking about our other options just to see if we wanted to look elsewhere, when an employee who was eavesdropping on our conversation storms up to us and rudely starts saying we shouldn't have taken a photo if we aren't 100% buying it. I calmly explained we wanted to put half the deposit to hold it and that we were simply thinking out loud, not expecting her to be listening. She continued to go on saying she wants to see us physically delete the photo from our phone before we leave and continuously repeating we had no right to take a photo. Not only were we very polite and following rules which I personally think are outrageous, we were prepared to lose over $350 just to look elsewhere and weren't allowed to even show the dress to my husband who was at work. Patrice did an amazing job, but this other employee who stepped in and made us feel attacked completely ruined the experience for me and my two daughters. I will never recommend this place to anyone and will never be shopping here again. This review is only 2 stars and not 1 because of our girl Patrice. They have such a wide assortment of dresses! Make sure to come early though, as it gets really packed in the afternoon. The staff is really friendly and organized, and are willing to help you with your dress needs! There was a wait list for the change room, although it was quite worth it because the staff took their time to inquire what type of style I was looking for and recommend other dresses that I might like. I bought an all-beaded gown at Madeline's. I wore it a few times in concert. It traveled well but many sequins and beads were falling off. I took the dress to Madeline's and asked if I could get this looked at and fixed. They said yes and that it would be ready in 2 weeks. (This was during Christmas). I went back to pick it up. It was ready. AND THEY DID NOT CHARGE ME A PENNY!!!!! I was in shock. How often does this happen? NEVER. Made my day! I will go back!!! read more
