I always think long and hard before posting any sort of negative review but I feel this one is justified and necessary to inform others. It is an entirely truthful recounting of the events described.
I met Will Smith a few months ago, when my partner and I hired him to move us from our apartment in Myrtle Beach to North Carolina. My initial impression was that he seemed to be an honest guy with a good reputation. My trust in him turned out to be severely misplaced.
About a week prior, during the original walkthrough of our old apartment, he was shown all of our furniture and belongings. This included two Sony OLED TVs, a 77-inch A80L and a 65-inch A90J, which he told us to just "get a box" for. He never brought up or offered any sort of additional insurance coverage. Unsurprisingly, these TVs were our most valuable possessions, so it was very important to us that they were protected from damage. We purchased two extra-large TV moving boxes from U-Haul for $80, which would have been more than sufficient, had they been used properly.
He and his team of two helpers boxed them on the day of the move, before they were loaded onto the U-Haul trailer. Naturally, moving day was very stressful for us and we did not think it was necessary to watch them like a hawk. I did not even think to turn both TVs on before they left our new place; it had been an exhausting day, as you might expect. So, I was not yet aware of any issue. In fact, I tipped them more than 20%, feeling that they had worked very hard.
When we drove down to our old apartment the next day to finish cleaning and turn in our keys, I thought it was quite curious when I discovered two of the foam corners that had been included with the TV boxes there on the floor! It did not make any sense that they would be there, had they been used for their intended purpose. Each box had come with four of those corners, and all were supposed to be used. I still hadn't yet realized the consequences of this negligence at the time, so I didn't think much else about it. We continued cleaning before returning to our new home.
Luckily, our 77-inch (the second one they boxed) in the living room had survived the trip. It wasn't until three days later that I could even think about lying down on my bed to watch the 65-inch in the new bedroom. For the first time ever, instead of immediately switching on after my press of the power button on the remote, all I saw were five red blinking lights. We tried a different outlet, we tried the physical power button on the back, but nothing worked. We quickly researched the meaning of the red lights and learned that a T-con board or panel failure was the cause. Upon further inspection, we discovered the lower right corner of the panel had been cracked. It was only then that we connected the dots. Our Sony A90J had been turned into a 50-lb paperweight.
I contacted Will immediately to advise him of this serious damage to our property and to ask what he could do to rectify it. I made him aware of their failure to properly use the packaging that WE had provided them. All he asked was if the TV was still under Sony's 1-year warranty (it wasn't). Then, he even said to me that while he didn't mention it at the time of our hiring him, "these TVs have gotten so sensitive" that he's now implementing a "not responsible for TVs" policy! Just to be clear, he was trying to tell me about this AFTER the fact.
Ultimately, he offered us no solution or compensation, and the bottom line is that we're out an expensive OLED TV purely as a result of their negligence. I cannot in good conscience recommend Made Moves 007 when any high-value electronics are involved. read more
