Warmth and Charm
Completing research on wineries in the Yarra Valley we came across this place to visit, as it has Viognier and is using organic & biological farming practices, and, before you the reader scream to the hills I'm a tree hugging hippy, this practice of organic & biological farming or viticulture is a sustainable way of growing the crop of wine grapes, as the vines are stronger, thus will be more resistant to diseases and pests, the soil is enriched with great organic material that develops great wine without the use of chemical sprays, thus giving the consumer great wine without the added extras that we did not ask for.
The cellar door and tasting room the smaller of the two sheds on the property on the right as you drive in from Maddens Lane from Maroondah Highway. We were greeted on entering the door with warmth from our host and tasting guide. This room is a great space for a tasting section of a broad selection (not just 4 or 5) of the French and Italian grape varieties. There was a wood fire warming the area, white walls allowing the light to fill this cozy room. We came for the Viognier, which they make it not a dry as a Chardonnay with a lot more fruity and floral complexities. After sampling their wines we came away with a couple of bottle but more important meeting a charming host and a great future wine contact.
Highly recommend the trip as you discover great wine and varieties that you may not know of, in a charming warm friendly environment, we will return, thank you. read more
