Visit the Domaine Chandon cellar as part of the winery tour.
    Jen S.

I'm more of a microbrewery/ma-and-pop shop girl, so was a little wary about visiting Domaine Chandon with the expectation of an impersonal corporate experience. But it ended up being a surprise highlight of our do-it-yourself winery tour trip. One recommendation is the free guided winery tour. It enhanced the experience and our appreciation for the wines and we also got to visit the locked cellars where the bottles are aged. The property is beautiful - mountains in the distance and on the grounds different coloured rose bushes mark the grape varieties growing behind them. As others have noted, the tasting room is small and crowded. And there are a lot of visitors that come here. But the staff member serving us ($5 for the wine tasting) was both knowledgeable and friendly. And as he, and another reviewer noted, the sparkling pinot shiraz is very popular. I'd certainly stop here again on a winery tour. And it would also serve as a good destination for 'girly' events like an afternoon hens party or shower.

    What a beautiful winery

I can't understand why anyone would rate this lower than amazing. Yes, it's expensive but hey over the price and enjoy the quality. Fantastic wine, amazing view and beautiful food. I am in heaven. Beautiful day great company wine and food. Come here and enjoy the whole experience. It's only an hour from the city and its so peaceful. Yes, it's not for budget conscious back Packers, but if $60 is ok in you budget for a peaceful and delicious afternoon. Do it! You won't be disappointed.

When you pull up to the winery, the scenery will take your breath away. It's an idyllic piece of property that reminds me of an estate somewhere in Europe. The types of varietals at domaine Chandon make use of the grapes that grow well in Australia. There was a sparkling wine using Shiraz grapes that was so flavorsome that I decided to transport it back to the states in my luggage. The folks doing the tastings are knowledgeable and easy to talk to. They showed us the proper way to uncork a bottle of sparkling wine, the knowledge of which I have put to good use since!

A very pretty pit stop in the Yarra Valley. This experience was vastly better when I was dragged there on a hen night. That experience was of bad service and rubbish value for money and there wasn't even a snack for everyone. We had a wine tasting, 1 sample of wine is free or all 6 for $5 (which you can redeem against any purchase of a bottle). It was pleasantly surprising to discover a sparkly I liked better than their fanciest kind. What impressed me the most was the staff who remained passionate in describing their wines no matter how many times they explained it to the customers. The vineyard itself is stunning too. I wish I'd known about the free self guided tour but that'll have to be for the next time.

A nice glass of the brut rose from their tasting - great wine with a great view!

If there's one vineyard in the Yarra Valley you have to visit, it's probably Domaine Chandon. With production of over 5 million bottles a year, they really have created a name for themselves worldwide. They have a nice tour with explanations of their production facilities, as well as a nice tasting, restaurant, and view of their vineyards. Their rare sparkling red is a must try, and I love it with just a simple sourdough (only $3.50 AUD!) Beautiful way to spend the day - maybe pair it with a boutique vineyard for some contrast.

We love supporting the Ma and Pa wineries more than the big guys, but even we have to put this to the side when showing off the Yarra Valley to friends, as Domaine Chandon is simply one of the most stunning spots around, and with wines to compliment. It says something that neither I nor my partner are big lovers of Sparklings, but even we get seduced by their selections. Don't expect generous tasting serves for your $5 (refundable with purchase, which you will likely do) but with so many people coming through the doors each day you can understand that. They also have a separate space for groups which is very helpful in ensuring you can get to the 'bar' for a taste when you arrive, as it can get *very* busy in there.

Had a good tasting here with a smashing Italian (female) sommelier. Despite arriving in the closing bell, she took her time and kept us engaged. Definitely a lovely setting and top quality sparkling wines in particular. Highly recommended.

Worth a visit, despite the crowds. They definitely have a long history with sparkling wines and that's evident from the taste. There's a nice self-guided (short) tour you can do with great signage that explains the process for making sparkling wine. The grounds are large and beautifully landscaped, so it makes for great photos. The tasting room will be mobbed, regardless of when you go so just be prepared - the staff seem to handle it efficiently without rushing you. I was happy we were there on a tour with Vinetrekker, as that meant we had a nice reserved spot, away from the crowd. The sparkling shiraz is unique to Australia and quite a treat, and their Brut Rose is also only sold at their cellar so you're practically obligated to bring a few bottles home with you. :-)

It's Domaine Chandon......what else can I say?? As others have said I too expected that I would find this winery too commercial but it's not. It is HUGE but it is also quit lovely. And you can walk around and read about the processes which is interesting - however I would recommend doing this sooner rather than later in your wine trip just to ensure you have full comprehension ;-). The sparkling is divine....but I'm sure you already knew that!

What is a trip to the Yarra Valley without visiting the place where the beautiful Moet Chandon is made. On a day trip out to the winery region, this was our last stop. The grounds here are absolutely amazing. We drove up the drive way and landed in a perfectly pruned playground where the the roses seem to blossom just that bit more brighter than anywhere else. We were told stories that seemed a tad farfetched but intrigued me to the point of googling if they were actually true. Such things as Moet Chandon hiring helicopters in winter to hover over the vines to keep them from freezing... CRAZY HUH? But very true. We took a tour of the winery and it was such a pleasant experience. We explored the grounds, buildings and were given a detailed explanation of how the champagne is made. We sat and enjoyed some snacks and sipped on a few different types of chanson. The rain kept us indoors but we still enjoyed the view of the gorgeous scenery.

Don't get me wrong, Domaine Chandon is a beautiful vineyard selling some pretty top notch wines, it just feels a little soulless to me. Located in the beautiful Yarra Valley, Domaine Chandon is perhaps one of the grandest vineyards in the area and, arguably owing to its affiliation with Moët and Chandon, is probably one of the most popular. Offering tastings, tours and a brasserie serving some beautiful looking food, Domaine Chandon is worth a visit to see the stunningly sprawling vineyard itself. Contrary to popular belief, Domaine Chandon is not owned by the nice people over at Moët but was instead established in the 1980s by a group of Australian wine enthusiasts to grow grapes on behalf of the Champagne behemoth. Although a visit to the Yarra Valley wouldn't be complete without a trip to Domaine Chandon, in my opinion there are better wines - and more charming vineyards - to be found elsewhere.

The king of sparkling wine place. The cold food at the restaurant was good with the sparkling wine and. Weekend is crowded because of its popularity. I visited Napa's one and it's different because it has the self factory tour it is good to learn how the wine is made.

Each range offers terrific value and you can try both when you visit the cellar door, though the GS tasting will set you back a tasting fee of $10. On top of great wine, these kids know how to cook (pizza, shared-dishes) and know that to keep people happy you should keep them fulfilled with coffee (they roast their own), cheese (the have an amazing selection) and sweet treats (check out their take-home cake and pastry section). It's a massive venue, but don't go assuming you can just rock up unannounced. Giant Steps is hugely popular, particularly on weekends, so do yourself and your hungry family a favour and make a reservation well ahead of arriving.

As we parked I thought, "okay, so there's only one other car here." Stepping in I was thinking to myself "uhhhh..." I really had no idea what to expect. Going to a blueberry farm, when it's not even blueberry season, what do you do here? Smart thinking right? But, I was reassured of my decision when we were immediately helped to try out some of the different beverages that they have. We tried the St. Ronan's Ciders: apple and pear. They also have another apple cider on tap. As I was trying these out, my eyes lingered upon the wall behind the counter, and I saw that they also offered a range of blueberry wines. How could I possibly come to a blueberry farm and not try out their blueberry drinks? After tasting the wine, sparkling and fortified, we chose a glass each of the blueberry wine. It's home grown and hand made, you are actually parking right beside the farm. Now the blueberry wine...first off, BLUEBERRY WINE! How cool is that? Not only does it smell just like blueberry pancakes, but it tastes like smashed blueberries, and takes you straight to blueberry heaven. It's very light, and it could be drank like a white wine, or you could make sangria with it. I've had other fruit wines before, but I had never tried blueberry, until now. And seriously, it rocked my world. Accompanied with a blackberry coconut cake and a side of ice cream, we sat down by the fireplace. It was...perfect. Tucked away from the busyness of Healesville on a weekend, this place is away from the crowds, so that you can recollect yourself to sanity. It's quiet, chill, and trendy with jazzy music. On a winter's day, with a cozy warm fireplace, wide windows to take in the views, and a glass of wine, how could it can get any better? They also have a good range of homemade jams and toppings. But my only regret is not taking home a bottle of their delicious tasty wine! I've been raving about it ever since! The blueberry wine, I just can't get it off my mind!
