If you're in the Sarnia/Port Huron area check out Chicken in The Rough it's super yummy. Known for…read moretheir fried chicken and confirmed by Sis who said, they make the Best fried chicken. I mean when someone who has a discerning palate tells me something is the best my ears perk up and my mind has one track. Come Hell or high water I will be eating in said establishment. Hence, Sis, the fam and I found ourselves sitting at a table at Chicken in The Rough on Sunday. It was finger lickin good chicken. When it comes to fried chicken or fried anything I can't eat a bunch. Sis and I split and four piece and it was enough. The diner is a relic and The Rough a new favorite. When I find myself in the neighborhood you can be sure to find me here. It will probably be the only time I eat fried chicken because a girl must watch her figure. When I do I will eat it here. Not quite as good as my grandma Finney's but she was a great southern home cooker and there was love in every bite.

Great chicken dinners. We had to check this place out as the "other " chicken in the rough place,…read moreonly to compare to Palms Crystal Bar in Port Huron, Michigan. Service was a bit of a wait but worth it. At the time the restaurant was packed. The waitstaff did their best to work as quickly as possible. Our only disappointment was no coleslaw served with the dinners. We ordered some as a side and it was very good. We definitely will go back when visiting Sarnia again!

We had lunch here today 8/27/26. We are camping up at Lakeport State Park. We have driven by this…read moreplace dozens of times over the last 20 years we have been coming up here and always notice the " Chicken In The Rough" sign. I never knew what that meant until we went in and I read the back of the menu. My wife said people recommended this place on the state park camping fb page. So we finally tried. First off I'm not a big chicken fan but I think I will declare this the best chicken on the bone I have ever eaten. The "Chicken in the Rough" dinner is outstanding. It had a great flavor. I had the Traditional Dinner. It was a half chicken with fries & coleslaw & a dinner roll. I loved it all but didn't try the slaw I'm not a fan of that stuff. She had Chicken Tenders & Waffles with Honey & Pecan syrup on the side. I tried a bite of tenders it was very good but didn't have the same coating as mine so not AS good. I didn't try the Waffles but she said they were good. I would definitely get that Traditional Dinner again. I unfortunately didn't think to take a picture of our meals. Lots of food for both of us. Only downside I'd say is Pepsi products. There is a full bar though, but it was lunch so we resisted. The place says established 1936 it definitely had an old timey feel. I would guess 50's or 60's style but I wasn't around then so I'm just guessing what they were like. As always for Brian if he's still reading mine.... The napkin were two decent dinner napkins wrapped around our silverware, then a stack of cheapo diner napkins like you would have in a chrome dispenser on the table of a greasy spoon diner. I definitely was glad there was a lot of them, they knew I would need them. Don't hesitate to stop in I would recommend it for sure.

Retro Retro Retro, This place is sweet…read more I had the two piece meal and the chicken is amazing and delicious. The coleslaw was pretty tasty and the fries were on point. So I have to say that the Bloody Mary's are pretty darn good. Our Aunt actually said those are so good and told the waitress "another round" even though we really didn't need it. The staff was very friendly and we enjoyed our time. I've actually been here a few times since our cottage is up in Lexington. So when you get off the freeway take a right instead of a left to go to Lexington and grab some tasty grub.

We arrived during happy hour, and I was interested in the menu to see what kinds of appetizers to order, alone with the drinks we started as well before the hour slipped away. I had a frozen strawberry margarita, and it was spot on. Unbeatable price ! Our server did a spectacular job explaining the specials. I was pleased with the cheese sticks and delicious jalapeño poppers; they were just enough food and drink to taste and experience the tavern. The booth we sat in was beautifully designed, and dark vintage atmosphere reminded me of the iconic Cheers in Boston lol Additionally, Keno and other fun games kept us entertained. I can't wait to try more of the menu next time, along with more local favorites. The only con I had, was no clear reception on my phone, making it harder to check in through Yelp- ( I didn't ask if there was a WiFi) -

Service is very good: at the bar or a table or booth, you won't be forced to wave a server over...that's a big plus for me.
