6/14/2021: I HAD to buy a bathing suit at Macy's due to some unscrupulous AIRPORT TSA AGENT rifled through my suitcases pilfering my Designer, Christian Marie Marc Lacroix bathing suit having the gall, the audacity trading it via substituting with a frumpy, green and black, one-piece, polka dot bathing suit which was WAY TOO SMALL for me attempting wearing in ITS PLACE! NOT COOL plus, whoever that heathen was, also STOLE my designer underwireless, beige, strapless bras, and more importantly, STOLE my gold, 100% silk dress with a color-complimentary, 100% silk, lightweight jacket which both were EGREGIOUSLY EXPENSIVE!!!! Upon discovering what was stolen from my suitcase, I was BEYOND LIVID!!!! What's worse? There is ONLY ONE BUS ARRIVING AT WAIKOLOA AT 8:17 AM AND THE VERY LAST BUS RETURNING TO WAIKOLOA IS 1:45 PM!!!! Therefore, I had NO TIME trying on a bathing suit, i.e., buy the bathing suit praying it will comfortably fit my body with pinching me or making my girls plop out: Choose the bathing suit STAT and briskly hoof hobbling back to the Kailua-Kona Courthouse catching the ONLY bus returning to Waikoloa!!!! We all want to see this location stay in business, but the biggest issue is whomever is buying for the store. I'm constantly checking if items are available in-store here before buying elsewhere online and 99.9% of the time, it's on their website and not available at this location. They're missing out just with cosmetics alone. It's the only place to buy fragrances/high-end make-up on this side of the island and that could really be to their advantage if they ordered accordingly. read more

I went to return my dress and said "can't take it back" I said why, she said it's a last act, AND ITSAYS ON THE RECEIPT!! But I don't know what that is! The Macys in Kona is a breath of fresh air! It's organized, well stocked, and all of their employees are super helpful and friendly. I love their selection of Roxy and Billabong. Unlike other reviews here, I actually prefer that it's smaller and geared towards island life. If you're looking for something super specific or are expecting a huge department store like on the mainland, I suggest ordering online. read more

This was a small Macy's. I went there looking for some women's khaki shorts and a collared shirt for a golf outing. When I looked at stored in the area, I thought for sure Macy's would be the place to get such a simple outfit. I was wrong. When I asked a saleswoman about what I was looking for, you would have thought i was asking for her first born. She snapped back by saying that with only 30,000 residents and 20,000 tourists the only carry island apparel, which apparent does not include golf attire. This Macy's is quite an upgrade from the one at the Waikoloa Village but is still way smaller than your average Macy's that you're used to. The selections of clothing for both men and women have the Hawaiian appeal to them but they have a little bit of other selections as well. The Jewelry and Cosmetic sections though seem to be all of what a bigger Macy's has, so no shortage of things here. You can even buy a Fitbit here too if you please. Just don't expect much here if you're a tourist, there are better options to shop for clothing that may be a bit friendlier on your budget. (Walmart is down the street) read more

My go to place for cosmetics when I'm too stubborn to buy online and wait for it to arrive. I gotta have them now! I like to shop their Mac and Clinique products, they usually have what I need in stock, and when they don't, they can order it for me and a couple times I just had it sent straight to my house. The ladies at these cosmetics counters are very friendly and helpful, they always give me helpful advice and welcome sampling the products. They have great sales from time to time, which are consistent with nationwide Macy's sales. I rarely buy regular priced clothes here, they don't seem worth it most times. However when they do have a sale, it's not a bad deal. I love their baby section. They have such cute baby clothes, usually different ones each time I visit. And when you nab them on sale, they can go as low as $5-$10 an outfit. Their purse/bag and shoe section is dangerous for me, I'm a sucker for great shoes and bags, and you can believe the impulsive buyer in me will get it for full price, no questions asked. This location isn't very crowded. It's nice to just relax and shop without a ton of people around you. Service is always friendly, they keep an eye out if you need assistance and are helpful in locating anything you need. Parking isn't an issue, I'm always able to find parking nearby any of their 3 entrances. read more

The store itself is good, but the worker that I had to deal with was extremely rude. I came into the front store facing the road and went to the first register to do a return. There was only one lady in front of me so I figured I would just wait. I patiently waited while she help the lady. They talked story for about 5 minutes as the line behind me grew. When it was my turn I told her I had a return. She threw her hands in the air and looked all disgusted because it was not a purchase. She told me I should've gone to home goods. I just kept my mouth shut because I didn't want to make a scene. I then told her it was an online purchase and she looked even more upset. I really didn't know what this lady's problem was. She scanned my phone to look up my purchase and said she was going to put my payment on a gift card. I told her "no" to put it back on my credit card, because I paid with both gift card and credit card. AGAIN she huffed and processed the transaction. It's Macys, you already know what's here. This is a smaller scale since the building size is not any larger. That you cannot help. If we were like Hilo and had a mall with two different stores, then there would be more selection. However, we are not. It is what it is, so no sense grumbling that its too small. I'm sure you are there shopping for clothes because you don't want to shop for them at KMart, next door. Yes, sometimes it's pricey, but that's the going rate for those items regardless if you bought it there or another department store. Yes, the never ending one day sales and all other sales they have every single week gets annoying, but that's when you should buy something. Better to get some sort of discount on it than to pay face value. Yes, we all wish it were a bigger store, but until that day comes, I'm grateful to have a department store in Kona. Macy's has very sneaky credit card practices. You are actually getting two cards when you sign up. Their interest rates are very high. If you must use it only use it at Macy's for the sales that give you a discount for using it. If you only pay the statement amount you will be charged a $2.00 fee plus interest. So don't make charges near your due date (mine is the 17th) then pay the total account balance for that day. It is not like a regular credit card. I never get late fees, but noticed that I had been getting them from Macy's because I paid the statement amount--early (I always pay early to make sure it gets credited). Obama has made some changes to protect consumers. Macy's is finding ways around them. There are not many options on an island, but Macy's will get a lot less of my business in the future. read more

Thank you Macy's for recognizing with carefully chosen representatives like Kathy, you provide a wonderful in person experience that online cannot. Kathy said, please relax, sit, breathe. She tested my skin. Her selections were exactly what I needed. I asked to try a rich face cream I was unaccustomed. I liked it. Paid $98.00 received gifts, left. After purchasing some clothes it felt a bit too rich on my skin. I went back. Kathy switched it out instantly and provided a better gift package. Wow! My usual "jaded from past sales people" self would have wasted 2 hours sampling foundations, lipsticks, moisturizers, and leave frustrated without anything. Thank you Kathy Fagundes and Macy's. We made the mistake of going to buy some wine glasses they advertised on sale. Showed up and got told that we had to have the coupon printed out from their online sales ad. So we asked them to please hold the glasses and we would go home and return with the coupon. We go all the way home to print the damn thing, come back and another salesclerk (the first one was nowhere to be found) tells us they are not allowed to hold sales items, and the glasses are gone. Overall: A very dated, dingy looking store I've never been a big fan of Macy's - don't as me why, but this one tops the "dislike"-list. It's dark, dingy and looks like it hasn't been updated for 30 years! It, to me, doesn't feel like a Macy's, but a JCPenney. I love the products and displays in Macy's! There is a huge parking lot and each stall is fairly spacious. There are multiple entrances. The one facing the south side will lead you straight to the kids section. The one facing the water (west side) will lead you to the woman's section. Lastly the one facing Kmart (north side) will lead you straight into the men's section. When you enter the store, everything looks so beautiful, especially now since it's Christmas time. Everything looks so clean and organized. The sales and deals make it almost impossible not to spend money. Macy's always has a great selection on almost everything. I bought something in every department of the store except the makeup section (I'm still somewhat of a tomboy). I would give 5 stars except the customer service isn't the greatest. Its so hard to find staff and when you do, they will either ignore you or give you a little attitude. This is not everyone nor is this everytime, but, it seems like a majority. I can't find great quality of products on the big island (I hate online shopping) any where and even though you pay a pretty penny, you get your moneys worth. read more

This store needs more employees. Don't ever order things on line and go there to pick them up. It is not fast, it is painfully slow. I waited for 8 minutes behind 1 customer, at the household counter to pick up a towel I had bought on line, however, I was then told I had to go to the children's department to pick my order up. There were 4 people in line at childrens, and one clerk. It took me 25 minutes to pick up a towel. The people who work there are always very nice, but they need to hire more people. I usually love Macy's but this one is just bad. Due to an unfortunate circumstance, I had to buy all new clothes. The selection for 20-somethings at this store is sparse. I was able to find a few, and by that I mean exactly 3, fashionable items. I was willing to drop some $$ but I couldn't find anything worth buying. That's how bad it was. This store looks like it's about to close!! There's no longer a men's shoe dept. Its now been changed to "self service"! There were tree branches littered all over the parking lot, the garbage bin near the front door was full and overflowing, the outside looked as if no one had cleaned in weeks!! The men's store shelves were all disheveled and messy!! Cmon Macy's!! I was always considered you steps above Ross dress for Less (no offense to Ross's), but you guys need to get it together!! Late this afternoon I went to Macy's with my mom. We were browsing the Dooney & Burke purses and the D&B thick plexiglass sign was not secured and fell off onto my moms foot. It bruised her severely and had her limping. We told the nearest employee that might be a hazard and she smiled, put it back and walked off. Another employee noticed my mom limping and asked what was wrong. Then she called a manager, who did nothing but offer an ice pack, thanked us for letting her know to secure it and asked if we'd like to make a report. Kind as that was, there was no real sense of care given. As all other heavy loose signs around were left to sit in there place. Not a good experience, and even for a small town, there was a HUGE LACK OF PROFESSIONALISM. As a matter of fact, common sense dictates that's a huge liability. Came in to Macys this past weekend to take advantage of their sale. My husband managed to destroy almost everything in my kitchen in his cooking attempts while I was away. I needed to replace just about everything and was prepared to spend a minimum of $200-$300, but I couldn't find a SINGLE employee to help me. Not a one. This Canadian loves Macy's in Kona. I always seem to find deals each winter I am here, the sales are amazing even when our dollar exchange sucks. Would be nice if there was more selection of clothing for petites but really have gotten good deals on shoes, handbags and jewelry. I also buy Shiseido sun products that for some reason are unavailable in Canada and have also bought fragrance. The sales asst at the fragrance counter is amazing, I wish I'd gotten her name. I have been a Macy's customer for years but I am sad to say after visiting the Kailua Kona Macy's I will not be a customer anymore. I was sadly disappointed when I went to their store for a pair of Black Pants. Should have been an easy item to purchase but the Sales Clerk informed me that the store there does not carry any Women's sizes over an XL. Since their store normally carries plus sizes I find it strange that they would choose to discriminate against Plus Sized Women at this location but that is exactly what they are doing. It is a shame since I have always liked shopping at Macy's but if they choose to discriminate then I have no choice other than to Boycott buying anything at their store. Sorry Ladies if you want Plus Sized Clothing in Kailua Kona Macy's evidently does not want you to shop there and discriminates against larger Women.
