Nice, clean, and bright store with very friendly staff. The store carried a great assortment of shirts with colorful graphic designs, many of which are plant based dyes and even dyed with volcanic ash! After all, we are on an island with active volcanoes! My hubby wanted a shirt that specifically had the Big Island graphic. He found one with a perfect fit that was called Blue Hawaii Dyed. This was specially dyed on the island of Hawaii. Very cool graphic and nice bright blue color that brings out his eyes. We chatted with the engaging sales lady about how we had purchased shirts from the store in Seaport Village San Diego. I love this business!! Came to Crazy Shirts, my first time in HI and fell in love. The quality of the clothing is great as well as their dye process. Using various substances such as beer, hemp, lavender, pomegranates, etc. to color the items creating fun vibrant one of a kind clothing items. The Shoreline Twill shorts are my favorite! I have been into many stores but this one was special. Offering a customizable experience, here in Kona. Several specialty screen print options to add onto any item. Free with any purchase. I thought this was such a cool idea. Apparently it is offered in other locations, but this was my first! Another tip, stores on different islands have different t-shirt designs. One woman was really nice and explained the whole process of how the shirts were dyed, etc. I was interested in a few things that I saw. However, while my friend and I were looking around this other woman working there asked us if we "smelled like onion rings" !!! Tbh this store smells hella musty and that's all I could smell. But also there are several restaurants nearby... really just a weird experience. Could not get out of there fast enough. read more

If you're bored and want to have a fun conversation with someone come here. The guy is hilarious! You can easily tell he's a New Yorker! Anyway they have a whole variety of shirts. I like the guys shirts because they usually have better designs but crazy shirts does have some good designs in the women's shirts. They also have a variety of different dyes, the one I got which I thought had a great message was the blue one with a whale shape that was made up of a hammerhead shark, manta ray and a honu that said that if you take care of the earth, she will take care of you! Mac at the register was ridiculously rude for no good reason. I got a stuffed animal as a souvenir and he would not stop about how they had the "best shirts in the world and you got a stuffed animal". This store has been here as long as I can remember really ,maybe 20 years. So they are doing something right. The shirts are not cheap, but they are good quality. The store is clean and well laid out. Staff is typical Hawaii, laid back and young. The best part about it is the cool Sailor and Mermaid that are outside. I love them. read more

I was not into this shop until we went in...it just seemed to "touristy" to me for the outside. I was surprised to find a very neat shirt I really liked...it was called a henna pattern, had an open neckline, and was brown and gold...really nice. And yes, I had to get hubby a Kliban shirt for his "souvenir". It was not cheep, but the cotton was very soft, and they have washed up very nicely. The young associate was very friendly, and helpful. I like the general look of some of the designs here. They appear to have a team of talented graphic designers. But the sales staff was quite pushy. No matter what you put on they would say "That's cute!" or "That looks so good on you...Would you like a matching shirt/ hat/ etc.?" My wife and daughters were in a shopping frenzy and in a buy mood, but despite all the staff attempts, I was giving my honest opinion, including some thumbs-down to a few of their choices, or offering alternative ideas I'd seen elsewhere. Consequently I don't think I was very popular with the salespeople. In the end I found a beautiful pima cotton shirt that I liked, but was so put off by the pushy staff I decided to pass. Maybe I'll ask for it for Christmas from the mom-in-law, who loves to buy stuff here. read more

Wonderful, unique clothing and a great place to buy gifts as well as get items for yourself. Their clothing is very unique, especially in the dyes they use; volcanic ash, liquers etc. The staff at this particular location were all very attentive and friendly. I appreciated that they gift wrapped my items for and and ensured that I was logged into their reward points system (something their store in Waikiki did NOT do even though I spent $150 there!). They make so many creative shirts at Crazy Shirts! I enjoy coming to their stores. We bought a total of 3 shirts. Two for family and one for me. I still have my Crazy shirt which bought at this location back in August of 2006. The quality of their shirts is awesome! My 2006 shirt still looks new even though I wear it quite a bit still. Yes, their shirts are expensive. Especially if you compare them to other souvenir t-shirts which you can find around the area for 50 to 75% lower. The difference is that you pay for the quality! Crazy shirts was founded in 1964 by Rick ralston. The first crazy shirt shop was in a shack behind the international marketplace in Waikiki where they use to screen print their own shirts by hand. Not only does crazy shirts have amazing shirt designs but this store has amazing quality t-shirts that seem to last forever. The amazing part is that not only do they use original artwork from local artists, they specialty dye most of their shirts with the most unique dyes. They dye their shirts with Kona coffee (shirt literally smells like coffee), volcano ash, blue curaçao, beer, ti-leaf, wine, hibiscus, lavender, chile, money, chocolate (shirt smells like chocolate), and hemp (does not smell lol). The prices for the T-Shirts seem pretty high, especially compared to places where you could be five t shirts for twenty dollars. I have worn these shirts for over twenty years and they are tough shirts, that last a long time. So, the $30 dollars you pay if you take into consideration how long the last becomes a great value. The print does not fade, and it is a fun when you remember the trip you took so many years ago every time you wear it. One neat thing is too that they will give you a free T shirt once you buy 10 you get the next one free, and that offer never expires. I have coupon's from 1985 that is still good today, in fact I will be getting a free t shirt soon because of my recent purchases when I was in Hawaii. They also have a great web site to order when you get back home, and they have special offers too. Now I love Hawaiian food, so I had taken several pairs of shorts with me to the Island, but I ended up eating too much and drinking too much so my shorts would not fit comfortably. No lie. So, I had to buy some new ones and the Crazy Shirt Shorts are so comfortable. I am so glad they fit well, and happy that I bought a pair. They were all I wore on the Island after the first week there. Well, I am now working on losing that weight, and I am back at work so that helps. I had a bad experience here. The manager heather had no personallity. Her customer service was not there. It was like she had an attitude with me.
