It was crazy!! All of these beautiful Polynesian women, of lovely beautiful sizes, were going nuts over these dresses & tops!! Prices range from $25-$50 depending on what style it is. What can this be? What sizes do they have left? I NEED to find something. (Being from these islands and of Polynesian descent, I adore fashion that is inspired by Polynesia, Polynesian cultures, AND of course Polynesian women!) There was HUGE line with women carrying several pieces of beautiful dresses & nice blouses. The racks were pretty bare with only ONE dress style I liked in my size. I wasn't sure how they'd fit though cuz i'm in between sizes. The girl says, "Try 'em on girl!" I love that! The dressing room was just one large community room, which I actually was fine with, going to a highschool where you just don't care about that. I found the size I liked and went to pay. The lady at the ring up station was super nice!!! Like Tutu/Aunty kine nice!! She's actually the designer of this brand. I asked her if she has a store in Kona, she doesn't...yet!!! These dresses were selling FAST, I'll be surprised if they have any inventory for the fair today! She did say, if you ever visit Kona you can contact her and she will set up her wonderful pieces in her garage. Splendid!! Mental note: visit next spring! She DOES have an online site though. Got to talking with her and she actually knows my Grandpa & cousins in Kona!! Small world, big family, what can i say?? If you get a chance, visit her website, the story behind her product is touching! Us Polys, we got curves and we need more people like Tutu Nita to embrace what we got!

In the past year or so, they moved into their current space from the other end of the shopping center and everything is organized, bright, and overall a great environment to shop in. Glad I wasn't trapped on the Big Island, but if I had to be trapped, it would be in the shop of the TIEDYEHOBO....or maybe on the grounds of the Sheraton Keauhou Resort and Spa.... The reason we pulled in off the street, unplanned? The name...TIE DYE HOBO. I was laughing all the way into the parking lot, including when the rental car's tires screeched to a halt in the dust, kicking it all up. We got out of the car but instead of laughing, we were simply AWED by the sheer and vast FOREST of tie dye stuff in the shop, including DOLLAR BILLS! How does ONE MAN do all of this?? Johnny Cullen's story is really fascinating. He pulled himself out of homelessness and worked hard to build his Tie Dye empire, along with a wildly popular Youtube and Instagram channel (51K followers on Insta). The walkway into the store was kind of like a magical trip, and I knew it was special when I saw sunflowers growing in hanging baskets, because only a cool person would come up with such a concept! Johnny Cullen, the owner, greeted us soon after and tended to our questions about his vast collection of everything tie dye: shirts, leggings, dresses, tank tops, curtains, sarongs, masks, and yes, even dollar bills. After purchasing a bunch of stuff, Johnny gave us a tour of the secret room. I am not going to ruin stuff for you here by telling you where the secret room is and what it holds, go see for yourself! There's a bunch of other cool shops around this area like the Da Bead Shop, Gypsea Gelato and Pacific Triangle's Antiques and many more (but those were the only others we visited). I've been following JC on Instagram and it seems now he's offering tie dye workshops and how-to's, and the next time I go out there on the Mamalahoa, I'll be sure to visit one of the legendary tie dye icons of our time...Cullen!
