Our group leader, Richard, was very friendly, made sure we were all enjoying ourselves, and had lots of historical information to provide as well at each of our stops! As for the physical aspect of it, it is a long ride, but we had enough stops to where I never felt exhausted or that it was ever too much. There was only one uphill section toward the end that definitely worked my calves, but nothing unmanageable. I'm in pretty decent shape which I'm sure helped, but many of my friends who aren't into fitness used the e-bikes and had a splendid time. The areas we rode through were so peaceful and beautiful that I wasn't even paying attention to the time. Overall, if you're looking for a bit of exercise, some beautiful sights that you probably won't see on other tours, and good company, I would highly recommend A wee Pedal!!

The guy was brand new and knew his stuff. He used to volunteer but managed to secure some funding to get a full time position. His passion for the project really came across and made you also feel enthusiastic. They are based just off Argyle Street, West End side, and is a fair size. I couldn't stop gopping round the place. It's a pretty cool establishment and I love the fact that it's a social enterprise. There's a front and back workshop, sales floor and a mezzanine level storing more bikes. There's also a sewing project enterprise on the mezzanine, I can't remember what they were called. The guy said there was talk of turning part of it into a cafe, I think this would be a fantastic idea. I hope they do. They take in old bikes, work their magic and produce just like new bikes. They had some quite decent ones on display but note they do change frequently. I saw a cracking pink one for £75. Ooh tempting! I do have a bike, one I've had from my early teens and it's alright. I would like to get it checked though and see if it's road worthy as it's longing to be ridden. They can help you or you can have access yourself on certain days for £4 per hour and use the facilities to fix up your bike yourself. It's a great idea and I highly recommend popping along. Get your bike needs sorted all in one stop. Also check out the photos on the walls, they are by our talented Alasdair W.

Now I am no biker, I know very little about bikes, the world of bikes or even the world of bike shops. But the guys behind the counter are really friendly and made me feel very welcome as they explained the basics. If you ever find your bike in need of some love, they also offer bike repairs and tune-ups at a very reasonable price. Though because they are well known in the area you may have to wait a few days before it is ready. What I really love about the shop is the biker community vibe. They leave a pump outside the store for anyone to use and they have helped a friend of mine with his breaks for free. Gear also sell pocket cycle maps of where best to go for a bike ride in the city so if you pop by I highly recommend that you spend £5 on that little gem.

I've been in a few times - once to get some new inner tubes, another time to get some cycling mitts (fingerless gloves) and finally to replace a light. The shop has such a great range of everything, along with staff who are passionate about the subject matter. Whatever I was looking for, there was always a great range of that item, across a variety of prices. This shop thus caters for the casual and hardcore cyclist alike. It's the sort of place that you'll wonder round, and see something that you don't really need, but do want, and then try to justify whether or not you need it. The selection of complete bikes for sale is also great to look at, with that 'if money was no object' glint in your eye. Apart from sales, the shop also does repairs in a small workshop that is part of the shop. It's pretty much a one-stop shop for your cycling needs, and in a city like Edinburgh where cycling is the quickest way to get around, it is a very useful place. Well worth a visit if you live nearby, or even if you don't!

The cheapest you get is about £200 so perhaps they miss out the very cheapest bikes, but they may be forgiven for their level of quality. The next step up is the standard £300 commuter bikes you get sold throughout town and from here the more you spend the more you get with many different types and styles of bikes. My advice would be to tell the staff what you want, what you need it for and they will do their best to find whatever suits you. A great bike shop.

YAY BIKES!! I…read moreloooooove this shop!! Now, don't get me wrong, it's not the cheapest place on the planet (hence the 4 stars!!) but it's a great shop with knowledgeable staff. Robin B and I went to a wee "Fix It" do they had this evening, for the lay-deeez!! ;-) (I got an email last week offering me the opportunity to attend a "Females' Bike Fixing" workshop/class thingy. I thought this would be handy, as I'm preeeeettty useless about ANYthing to do with my bike-other than riding it...so I signed us up!!) I didn't really know what to expect, to be honest...but I enjoyed it and it was really informative!! Scott, the chap giving the chat was friendly and kept asking if anyone had questions, which was nice! A lot of the info was about road bikes and I have a hybrid, but I still learned how to change an inner tune PROPERLY, so happy with that result!! :-) The whole presentation was engaging and full of useful info-AND WE GOT A GOODIE BAG AT THE END!! Always a MASSIVE plus!! Lol Other than tonight, I have been into the store A LOT-due to a dangerous position VERY close to my office-I've also bought bikes via their Ride To Work scheme, through my employers! :-) I've always had no issues in picking my bikes up-when you pick it up from the shop they build it for you-which is massive bonus, I no longer have a shoogly basket!! Yay! As I say, not the cheapest bike shop around, but I find their variety of stock and knowledge both outweigh the cons...they stock Dawes Duchess bikes and they are THE BEST! Vintage-looking, classic colours, elegant and they come with a BASKET!! (My bike is a shiny black Dawes Duchess, called The Duchess...I LOVE her!!!) I would recommend this store to any of my friends, but with a caveat that they may not like the prices...

As Harry and I are in the throws of saving for Japan, buying a decent bike outright was out of the question. I was in the market to finance a mid-range bicycle, and that narrowed my options down somewhat. Highly recommended on the financing front was Evans, who will do 0% finance from £500 upwards. I also was advised that if you wanted to buy a cheaper bike, but were able to make up total cost to £500 with accessories, they would finance that as well. The process of buying was a little more drawn out than I'd have liked. This was mostly my fault because I wanted to test drive my primary two candidates, the Trek Neko WSD SL and the Pinnacle Cobalt 2014. Alas, the Pinnacle in my frame size seemed to have vanished from the face of the earth, and the Trek bikes were not kept in store. I had to put down a £50 refundable deposit to order in the Trek Neko for test driving. When they had what was to become my bicycle and built it, they called me to let me know. Unfortunately the weather was horrific and they don't let you test the bikes when the weather is bad for obvious reasons. When the wind and rain finally let up, I was able to take a 20 minute test drive (you can take up to 30 minutes, and they'll lend you a helmet and high vis gear). I fell in love! Don't tell Harry. Now comes the financing bit... after my test drive, I was all set to start the buying process. Sadly, it was 15 minutes before closing, and they said the application could take a half hour or more. Booo! So I came back two days later. Now, I knew I would have to bring ID, but nobody had informed me that I had to bring a utility bill or bank statement until I got there - though I can't complain two much. The poor guy was new on the job. This was made doubly tricky because I had just moved house the weekend previous... Cue an adventure to the nearest internet café to print off my bank statement! And at last get the finance done! Happy days! Anyway, the guys were very knowledgeable and helped me pick out the bike lock, mudguards, and pannier rack to fit my requirements. Even better, they fit them on the bike for me at no extra cost! This of course meant I had to wait another day before receiving my bike at long last. Anticipation is such sweet agony! Long story short, my mechanical steed is magnificent as she flies silently through the streets. Tis the girliest mount I have ever ridden as an adult. Still to come, the 6 week bike service to work out any kinks that have popped up! Will they get the coveted fifth star? Only time will tell!

I didn't think this was asking for the moon really, but according to what was available in other Glasgow bike shops, it seemed that this was a big ask, without spending a fortune. That was, until we went to Dales. Dales are fantastic! They have a huge range of bikes, and we spotted one straight away that seemed as though it might be ideal. We were very quickly helped by Lynsday. She established exactly what I was looking for, what sort of cycling I'd be doing, and what sort of price range I had budgeted for. Lyndsay was clearly a bike enthusiastic, and knew her bike stuff inside out - we were very impressed at her knowledge, and her friendly and helpful manner. Once she'd established that our chosen bike was the right size, she let me go for a test ride. It was pouring with rain, so Lyndsay and Simon very sensibly stayed inside while I hurtled up and down the street for a very quick test ride. I didn't need any longer though - as soon as I got on the bike, I knew it was the one for me. Once we'd made the decision to buy, Lyndsay continued to be super helpful. She showed us mudguards, with more detail than I could have thought possible about mudguards, and the various pannier racks and pannier bags. We didn't feel hurried at any point, even though the shop was very busy, and were very happy with the options we chose. When I returned to collect my bike (they were building me a fresh out the box one and fixing on the various bits), Lynsday was there again to help, making sure I was totally happy and comfortable on the bike before riding it off into the sunset (rain). I'll be taking my new bike back to Dales for its 2 month service when it's due, and Simon was so impressed with the service that we received, that he'll be taking his bike in for a service too. The whole process of choosing, testing and buying a bike at Dales was very easy and actually enjoyable. I would recommend Dales first time every time to anyone looking to buy a bike.
