If you do cycling of any sort in Edinburgh, you will probably be familiar with Edinburgh Bicycle…read moreCooperative. They're located on Alvanley Terrace, near to the Bruntsfield Links. I've been in a few times - once to get some new inner tubes, another time to get some cycling mitts (fingerless gloves) and finally to replace a light. The shop has such a great range of everything, along with staff who are passionate about the subject matter. Whatever I was looking for, there was always a great range of that item, across a variety of prices. This shop thus caters for the casual and hardcore cyclist alike. It's the sort of place that you'll wonder round, and see something that you don't really need, but do want, and then try to justify whether or not you need it. The selection of complete bikes for sale is also great to look at, with that 'if money was no object' glint in your eye. Apart from sales, the shop also does repairs in a small workshop that is part of the shop. It's pretty much a one-stop shop for your cycling needs, and in a city like Edinburgh where cycling is the quickest way to get around, it is a very useful place. Well worth a visit if you live nearby, or even if you don't!

The cheapest you get is about £200 so perhaps they miss out the very cheapest bikes, but they may be forgiven for their level of quality. Should you want cheaper than this I would recommend picking up a second hand bike from Bike Station which are of good quality but second hand. The next step up is the standard £300 commuter bikes you get sold throughout town and from here the more you spend the more you get with many different types and styles of bikes. My advice would be to tell the staff what you want, what you need it for and they will do their best to find whatever suits you. A great bike shop.

Top quality. Large range. A distinctly racing focus…read more PRICE: The cheapest things here will outfit a bike to a high standard. Value is good, but high standards come at a high price. SERVICE: Staff are friendly, but they are also focussed primarily at the racer. QUALITY: All products are of a very high quality. CHOICE: There is a good choice if you are here to outfit a racer or a high-spec downhill bike. Less budget-range. I came here on the advice of a friend a good while ago, and as he is a competitive racer with a bike worth as much as a new family car, I should have expected it to be focussed on getting maniac cycling nutters from nought to incredibly fast in as few seconds as possible. However, I found a number of useful features. Firstly, if like me you are someone who has a bike for touring that requires a tyre slightly more substantial than your average 23mm, then you will know that it can be difficult to find a shop with anything but one type in stock, usually a slick 25mm. Velo Ecosse has a wide range of road tyres in stock at all times, and there are slicks, rain tyres and treaded tyres allowing light off-road capabilities (these being my ideal ones). They have a large range of bikes, mainly race-orientated but there are a few alternatives here and there. I also find that they stock a good range of ancillaries such as bottles and other such kit. Always useful, and at reasonable prices too. Velo Ecosse is generally worth a look in if you have a list of bits you need. I would give it a gentle but firm thumbs-up, and if you are a racer on ever intend to be, then this should be your first stop for advice, sponsorship and equipment.

Hail the Cabbie: Historic Tour of Edinburgh, 1 taxi for up to 5 people…read more I wanted to let you know what happened today, 7/9/19.  I booked the Historic Tour of Edinburgh 1 taxi for 5 people, Booking #BK-699051924.     The driver e-mailed me through Viator yesterday afternoon, but I got the e-mail very late.  This morning he called me.  It was set.  He picked us up for our 1 - 1/2 hour tour.  We were in the rain.  It was very uncomfortable as two of us had to sit backwards on a foldout seat. The other 3 barely fit on the seat. He kept going and showing us more.  We didn't understand why. He showed us his castle where he lived, he drove by there. He stopped a lot and turned around and talked to us while the vehicle was stopped.  I was thinking, drive and talk.  At the end he asked if anything else, and I said my Dad wants souvenirs. He took us to a place for 1/2 hour and then wanted to take us to more places. I said, back to the ship.  We got back, 4 1/2 hours later.  I handed 30 pounds to Glyn, the driver (thinking that was a good tip) and he said no, and gave it back to me.  He said I owed him 187 pounds!!!  He gets 50 pounds an hour.  I said, no one told me that. I have a ticket here that shows I already paid you for this tour.  He said, no, that he would call the police.  I said, okay, call them.  My Dad is 86, and walks slow, my Mom is 84 and another 65 disabled person, and my boyfriend was with me.  My boyfriend was going to give him 20 pounds too for a tip, so he would have had a 50 pounds tip.  I asked my parents to go on the ship, but they said they didn't want to leave their daughter!  Gllyn came over and asked if we would pay 150 pounds.  I said, no.  I guess my boyfriend offered 100 pounds and he said no.  I spoke to the security guard and the traffic enforcement person about this.     We waited for 40 minutes.  The police never showed up.  My daughter called me and I told her what happened, she said, just leave.  So, I went to Glyn, and said, I just spoke to my daughter and she suggested to leave and that is what I am going to do....I asked him nicely would you like the 30 pounds I wanted to give you for the tip?  He said, no.  I walked away and he started yelling at my boyfriend saying, "Now, you made me change the way I feel about Americans!"  "You guys Fucked Me!"     I was shaking when I left because I explained to him that I bought this tour and paid for it already.  I also told him, I never heard about the 50 pounds an hour.  If I did, would I have gone shopping for souvenirs for 25 pounds for the 1/2 hour, that is crazy, I could have gotten a regular taxi?  He didn't want to hear anything, just kept saying I get 50 pounds an hour.     I talked to his supervisor on the phone and explained all that, but she just said, can I talk to the driver again.  So, I gave him back his phone!         He wanted our ship information, cabin #, etc.  I told him, you have my name, my phone #, and e-mail address, you don't need anything else.     He is knowledgeable!  We learned a lot!  I told him, he should have told us that, that is what he got paid, or after 1 hour he should have said this is the end, if you would like to stay longer it will cost you 50 pounds an hour and I would have said, please take us back to the ship.     I thought you should know what happened. First e-mail received from his wife 7/9/19 9:29 a.m. Perhaps the way you and your party behaved is commonplace in your country but it's illegal in Scotland. Can't believe you where once a teacher, no wonder the rest of the world laughs at Americans. Hope one day your pupils and grandson realise what a despicable human being you are. Nothing but a common thief. Depriving someone of their livliehood is disgusting, would you have done the same to the cruise company? Totally disgraceful 2nd email from wife: For someone who is supposed to be educated, you really are a piece of work Not only are you a thief you are also a liar. "You fucked me" jolly nice expression not used in the uk. If you'd bothered to read the website you would see that it's about taxi tours not trips. My husband drove past our house, don't think so. Just face the truth you are a liar and a thief and  it's completely disgusting what you've done on trip advisor. Offered £100, don't think so, and for your information the police did arrive, so why didn't you wait for them. My husband doesn't use swear words. How does it feel to totally humiliate a decent, HONEST human being, you are scam artists and you know it. 3rd e-mail from his wife: Just read what you have written, he showed you the castle that he lived in, are you for real. He told you he lived NEAR a castle. You Americans understand nothing about the UK.  Obviously your friends are going to take your side, even when you've told them a pack of lies. Glyn helped your disabled relatives into the taxi and indeed has a disabled son himself. As for the phrase you used, you've fucked me, as stated this sounds
