I was a bridesmaid in a wedding last year at MacRay. The whole night was spectacular. First of all, the view is amazing. Secondly, all of the staff was so kind and attentive. It was really convenient that we had a room for the wedding party to hang out in and put our belongings in. It was great that the room was able to be locked so I did not have to worry about valuables. The food was delicious and came out in a timely manner. The whole room setup was outstanding and included a large dance floor. Overall, I had a great experience at MacRay and would highly recommend!! read more

I have been here twice. Once for a Christmas party and the other for a bridal shower. Christmas party was family style. Had 8 people at our table and had a spoonful of each dish which was just warm. Asked for more and never received anything. The roast beef was chuck roast. I cook a better chuck roast. Waitstaff not very friendly. Bridal shower. Wedding soup was lukewarm but tasted good. Cup was half full. Chicken salad had good veggies but not crispy or cold. Maybe half a dried chicken breast on it. Only thing that saved that salad was the house dressing. Not very friendly waiters either. I'm saying for the price you pay, this place should be top notch and it isn't. Nice view but I wouldn't recommend the place. read more

Well, this was our first time here since they moved to the downstairs facility. We were somewhat disappointed, it was my birthday dinner and the food was mediocre at best. We had oysters for an app, they were overcooked. Plus, there was no drink or wine menu, I guess it's more of a beer joint. Hubby had the trout, which he liked, I ordered the white fish, which had been good at the previous place upstairs, but was terrible here, fishy tasting, lots of bones, I sent it back, which I never do, and to their credit the replacement I ordered arrived very quickly and was satisfactory. I might return for a lunch , but this place has lots of room for improvement., I guess they make their money on drinks and burgers. read more

This place is nice, I went here for a Wedding. I did a little dancing, at one point I even busted out a new move I have been working on called the Robot. The decor and staff are nice. The valet was nice. Everything was pretty nice however I think it needs a little updating and the food could use a little more care. When we arrived, they sat us at a table in the center of the room although we had requested so sit by a window (there were MANY window tables open). After 10 minutes, our waitress finally came to us and started off by telling us that we had to be patient since they were short staffed and busy. While it was true that they were short staffed, they were 7 other families there at most. We placed our orders and the waitress didn't even know how large their steaks were! It took literally 45 minutes for our bread basket to arrive and we had reminded them at least 3 times. After we got our bread, the manager payed a visit to our table to inform us that the filet mignons that we had ordered were out of stock. We asked why a restaurant would be out of stock of a popular dish and he told us that "he did not want to get into all of that with us". Now we were forced to order sirloins. At least an hour later, our food came. While the steak was not terrible, it had no flavor whatsoever. The vegetables were definitely rotten and tasted like trash. Some of them weren't even cooked enough to be eaten! Fast forward to when we wanted to pay, the waitress was nowhere to be found. We overheard other waiters talking about how they couldn't find her. We ended up paying up front and then we left as soon as we could. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Went for a wonderful Easter brunch. I didn't think I would enjoy it as i just had bariatric surgery and would be wasting my money but Mac and rays are bariatric friendly when you show your medical card. I only had to pay the child price. What a selection they had and it all looked good, and everyone else in our party went up a few times to get 2nds and 3rds. I tried a bit of carved prime rib and it was fork tender and perfectly cooked. I also had a bite of carved ham and it was delicious, kinda wish I could have had some of the other dishes but oh well i was full after 3 bites of each. read more

my friend received a gift certificate for this place as incentive to book her wedding reception here. walking in, the place was nice, definitely reminded me of grosse pointe yatch club types as far as the other diners. we were immediately seated, the waitress took our drink orders and addressed us by out names, a nice touch i thought... at first. when our drinks came i asked for water, which did not come until the food came about 15-20 minutes. after this point the waitress was pretty much non existent. i ordered a small napa salad : Napa Mixed baby greens, dried cherries, gorgonzola cheese & glazed walnuts with raspberry vinaigrette....Small...$5....Large...$8 and Penne Arrabbiata Penne pasta tossed in a "angry style" sauce of tomato, red chili, garlic & olive oil. Served with garlic bread.....$11 first off the only reason that 2 stars is not a 1 star is because the napa salad was delicious, as well as my boyfriend's medium rare fillet Mignon ($26) the penne sauce was not even a step above any jar sauce, as far as red chili, where? there was no spice whatsoever. i do love spicy dishes but my boyfriend who has a low tolerance for spice tasted nothing. as far as the garlic, perhaps they meant the 2 whole roasted and then burnt to a crisp cloves that polluted my pallet for the rest of the evening. roasted garlic is not difficult if that's what they were going for i make it in my house all the time. the garlic bread was mediocre. friend 1 ordered the perch which was supposed to be in a lemon caper sauce, she said she could barely taste lemon at all. and the veggies served on the side were cold. friend 2 ordered the crab legs, how can you really screw that up though, you cook em, your done. after our meal i waited for the waitress to come over, i wanted to take the majority of my pasta home and turn it into a real meal perhaps the next day. and then we waited some more.. and then we tried making eye contact with her, and waited some more, 30 minutes later after watching her visit other tables multiple times, she came over apologizing saying that it was understaffed and she was paying for our drinks. she said she would pay for our dessert but we passed. i am not a picky person, i have eaten in hole in the wall diners that had better service AND FOOD! my friends are not picky people, we were happy to have the time to spend together, but this is a restaurant i will never be back to. sadly my friend will not be having her reception here. and from the other wedding review, that's just one more reason. step it up mac and rays or lower your prices. i must also mention i always tip 20% (95% of the time) if the service is shitty 10-15% i was sad to say none of us could bring ourselves to leave a dime. read more

My cousin had his wedding here this past weekend (8/28). The venue is gorgeous, overlooking the bay. The wait staff was cordial. The food was good (I had the salmon with rice). The only complaint that I had was that they only had 2 bartenders for an open bar of about 200+ people, so the wait was a little long at times - not good for a wedding. BUT, all in all it was a pleasant experience and you really can't beat the views. read more

We were there for Thanksgiving buffet after the football game at 5 pm. Food was cold and I wanted prime rib. I got an end piece that was dry and had hoped to get more than one piece to eat as I do not care for Turkey. That prime rib was not worth $24.95 per person! My sincere thanks to the management and staff of Mac Ray's banquet and catering operation. We recently held a memorial luncheon here and were uncertain of our headcount. It ended up being double what we anticipated. Mac's was able to set up for the additional guests, supply ample food and servers without issue. The food was excellent and the service awesome. Apparently, the restaurant inside (North 42) does not have to try because of the water views. Spent big bucks to attend their VIP July 4th barbecue. The food was average at best... the service was non-existent. We were seated outside, the waiter disappeared. If that's how they treat VIP's, must wonder what the average Joe gets. read more

This review is for the 2017 thanksgiving buffet. We used to go to MacRay back when it was a restaurant - bar back then they had an excellent Sunday buffet so when I heard they had a thanksgiving buffet I talked the family into going there this year. I thought it was odd that I had to pay for all of our meals up front to make a reservation, First clue..... When we arrived I noticed the grounds and buildings were looking pretty long in the tooth the joint sure needs some attention, Second clue..... When we approached the hostess station they couldn't find my reservation and seemed completely unorganized, they didn't want to seat us until all the people in our group arrived which is understandable but we noticed two of our group already seated in the dining room and decided to seat ourselves, Third clue....... The server assigned to our table was pleasant and attentive in delivering beverages to our group unfortunately the bussers were not, no plates or empty glasses were removed from our table throughout the meal we ended up stacking dishes on an empty table. The room has a beautiful view of the lake. The salad table which was very messy and not very appealing was in the main room along with the chafing dishes with the side dishes vegetables, potatoes, gravy etc. which weren't very warm but were tasty. The carving stations located in another room which had a line of people waiting to be served as the servers where waiting for meat to be delivered from the kitchen, when it was delivered to the carving station it was already sliced which I found a little ironic the beef was very rare they didn't have any medium which most of the people in line were requesting, I had a slice of turkey which had a rubbery consistency which I had never experienced before the beef was very rare and tuff couldn't cut it with the knife supplied it was a cheap cut of meat the desert table had a nice assortment and what I tried was good. I am giving the experience 2 stars for the servers who gave up their holiday to serve us and the beautiful view of the lake the food doesn't deserve any stars it was awful, a very disappointing afternoon I don't think we would bother going back read more

WE enjoyed MacRay's over the years. Thanksgiving buffet was always a treat, but not anymore. Whoever changed the format of service should be fired. *Pay up front.... OK, but we had one person who became ill and could not make it. MacRay's refused to refund the charge for him and said we could take a carry-out home to him (It's an all you can eat buffet, crammed into a styrofoam container) *The food took a step backwards. Runny scrambled eggs, to name one. Who does that? *The salad table was a mess. Fruit and cheese table was a mess. Grapes rolled on the floor and were being squished into the carpet. Saw one customer slip on one. You'd think someone would keep an eye on that. *The meat station in the back looked awful. I was beginning to to wonder if the meat was any good. *My elderly parents (with walkers) asked a waitress for a cup of coffee. She pointed to a table and said "It's over there". Are you kidding me? Why were charged a gratuity fee, when there was no service? *Dishes were never cleared so we had room for dessert plates. When I asked about that service, a busser was sent over, who removed the plates from our table and put them on a tray on a stand next to our table....and left them there. OK, we were fine, until the older woman next to us backed into the tray and knocked it over, spilling food on my daughter. ***That was our last rip to MacRay's. Such a sad ending for a once wonderful place. read more

Giving one star for the view. That's it!! Was there for a shower. It was a breakfast buffet. Besides MacRay, who else makes scrambled eggs with Velveeta or similar? Horrible and cold. Matter of fact, the whole buffet was horrible. Everything was served cold, even the coffee. They didn't even have toast, it was cold croissants. I asked the waitstaff if they could heat my plate up in the microwave and I got the deer in the headlights look. read more

I just don't understand the management at North 42. They have no clue what is going on, zero. Why does it take so long to get service? First, my boat is kept at Mac Ray, and I know the restaurant is never busy. Why when I try to take my wife to breakfast, yes breakfast would it take over an hour...all this time Chef Jason is walking in back staring out into the restaurant, yes I know who you are. Get a clue. My dock neighbor saw me walk in, he left to go somewhere else to eat and was back before I even had my food. Second and probably the funniest point... We decide to go down the road to another establishment to grab dinner and half of people their were from our marina, that alone should speak volumes. I really hope management figures it out, I really do love the marina, no other place I would keep my boat. read more

Worst brunch ever. We just live around the corner and was hoping for a good spot for brunch, but I guess not. Brought some friends there this weekend and was embarrassed. The eggs were runny and cold, the bacon was under cooked, the salad bar was bare, the chicken was over done and the pasta was dry. The waitress made excuses for the pathetic brunch stating that it was their first day open and they had an abbreviated spread; if that was the case, they should have had an abbreviated price, but did not, $20 for brunch...waste of money. I have been telling all our friends to not patron this place!! We will never come back and by the number of other people who were there Sunday(three tables over the 75 mins we were there), I bet they will soon close!! read more

I came here for a baby shower..um, let's just say, If I get pregnant, my shower won't be here. Besides the place being freezing, let's talk about the mimosa's...I'm not sure if they know you have to put champagne in there. It was basically all OJ. The salad, mixed greens, I was about half done and I turned to say something to my friend and the waitress snatched it out from under me..Hey! Not finished yet! The main course, white fish. I thought I was eating chicken. The texture was really weird and meaty. It also had this lemon sauce on it that was not so good. I think it came with some mixed vegetables or something. Warm rolls with butter, bonus. Dessert, I think the guest of honor had the cake made elsewhere, because the cassata cake was delicious. I'm just glad I didn't have to pay for any of this. read more

Easter dinner 2016; Overbooked venue; So crowded it was hard to see where buffet line started; Line to meat buffet took a minimum of 15 minutes to get through; Plates were hard to find as they were not at the buffet line, but were sitting on an unmarked table which was hard to find as there were so many people; Line was so long to get meat that I opted to wait in a smaller buffet line; Turns out the smaller line was for (and get this) scrambled eggs and sausage; Paid (with gratuity) approx. $35.00 for a breakfast; They were so overbooked that dishes were scarce; Picked up dish from stack which had food stuck on bottom; When leaving it took over 25 minutes to get cashed out. Bottom line: Worse Easter dinner ever! Better read this review twice before you make plans. read more

I came here for a wedding and really enjoyed myself. They offered complimentary valet and had a beautiful waterfront view. The lighting and décor is nice. By the decor I can imagine there is probably a lot of history in the building, but everything has been kept very nice. The room set up was a little odd, the dance floor is in a corner and the room is shaped like an L which I am not fond of for a party. So while the bride and groom where doing all the activities like cutting the cake, being introduced, the first dance, and everything no one was able to comfortably see what was going on unless you where right up at the dance floor. The food was pretty good, although my mom ordered a gluten free meal and never even received it. Everyone around her at the table was halfway through their meal and she still hadn't been served. This was a bit upsetting, but they just seemed really slow with their service. My boyfriend also ordered steak sauce and didn't receive it until he had a couple bites left of his steak. I havn't been to any of the other places in this area so I do not have anything to compare it to. I enjoyed the MacRay Harbor aside from the slower service and inconvenient room setup. read more

We attended my son's wedding reception here and we have no complaints! We traveled from Texas for the wedding, along with the brides family as well. We were able to have wedding cake and the bride and groom sat at the "head table" surrounded by their loved ones. It was February and then view outside was still beautiful. I'd love to come back and see it in the summer! The waitstaff was very helpful and very attentive. We have great memories here!! The food was also excellent and my drinks were yummy too!! Attended a Friend's daughter graduation party. the food was good and the servers were pleasant. but we were completely taken aback by the manager. She was very rude and disrespectful to the host and guests. I never met a manager with that kind of dismissive attitude and holier that thou demeanor. to the low point of refusing to supply the host with a box to take the left over cake home while supplying another party with multiple boxes. Recently spent the day at the pool and had lunch with friends. First of all excellent service, we were well tended to and never had an empty glass. Second, the food was delicious! I had a chicken sandwich well flavored with Parmesan truffle fries and my friend had a BLT, also excellent! I was impressed at the quality of "pool food" and will definitely be back! read more

This was my second wedding I attended within 6 months. Dinner service was horrible both times. I would never have my wedding here if you are looking for a professional service with good food. Plated meal was served almost 1 hour late. Rice was undercooked and guest had to send back. Fish was horrible. Looking around the room there was more food left on peoples plates than what people ate. They were understaffed so tables were not cleared and they were trying to serve cake with dirty dishes and glass all over the place. The bride and groom were not served first. They had to pay for an extra hour of photography, video because the schedule was so far behind. The DJ they paid top dollar for sat and played background music for 2 hours when he should have been getting the party started. I cant say enough how embarrassed our family was on the quality of service. read more

i keep my boat here and this place is as good as it gets in michigan! in its heyday this was the place, my only grip is the maintenance! the current regime doesn't want to keep this place first class anymore for some reason. its apparent when you approach the main gate, the vegetation has taken over the beautiful well lit sign so these guys decided to put something that resembles a for sale sign to let you know its macrays. certain things get fixed, while others are left unserviceable. i even heard of a pump out not getting fixed because the head maintenance guy says there's a bathroom close by. still its the best thing going, hopefully they get it together to make it the best on a national level and not just a harrison township level! read more

What a complete disaster. We've had Easter brunch at this restaurant for years and it's always been very good, but this year we could not believe how bad it was. The staff did not appear to be able to handle the number of people. We waited an hour for coffee (after repeatedly asking for it). The buffet stations were set up in a way that was confusing and had lines of people for one station crossing over lines for different stations. The plates were in the middle of the stations or on separate tables so you had to cut in front of people to get a plate and then go try to find the end of a line, but it was hard to tell which station you were in line for. To make matters worse, many of the chafing dishes were empty when we finally got up to them. The dessert station wasn't even in the banquet room and was placed in front of the door that the kitchen and waitstaff kept going in and out of, so everyone was dodging each other. I waited over 20 minutes in line for the carving station only to get a piece of roast beef that looked good but had so much gristle that I literally could not cut it. My husband couldn't cut his either, so we finally just left it. There was a station for kids but it was in the middle of the looooooooong line for the carving station and was almost impossible to see. What happened here? How could they all of a sudden forget everything they ever knew about running a great buffet? It was like people who had never run a restaurant suddenly took over. If this is the way they're running things now, we won't be back. read more

Yikes...This place used to be soooo much better. Having docked our boat there years ago and know many people who have worked there, we've been there our fair share of times. We went with a fairly large party (but really, what does the size of the party matter for a buffet?) for Sunday brunch so the kids could see Santa (best Santa around, by the way) and we were so disappointed in the brunch and the service. We waited a good half hour for them to figure out to bring both coffee and cups (and then cream, which took longer) at the same time. And then, had to ask several people to bring plates out for the buffet. I overheard one staff member say that wasn't his job as people were standing there waiting to get plates to eat the mediocre food at the buffet they were all paying $25 (!!!!!!!!) a person for. It was nice to have bottomless mimosas and Bloody Mary's but good luck getting your server to notice when you needed a refill. There was about half the food selection as prior years and as someone who doesn't love breakfast food, sorely missed the items that were cut out this year. I definitely won't be back but will try to find out where that Santa is next holiday season! He's really the only reason we went/tolerated the series of events. read more
