Bought a used car about 2 months ago (Hyundai Sonata 2009). The price was definitely at the higher end of the spectrum, but I decided to go for it because they also took care of all of the bureaucracy, and I also wanted to have someone to contact in case something went wrong. Since I'm a foreign student at UIUC, I was really worried someone would take advantage of my lack of familiarity with the US and scam me out of my money. The purchasing process went as smoothly as possible - got the car for a test drive, got it examined by a mechanic, got back, signed a couple of papers, paid, and got the car with everything else take care of. I later got the license plates delivered by mail. A week after buying the car I took it on a small trip to Chicago and back, and several warning light lit up. I called them immediately and they told me to bring the car in tomorrow morning. They took the car and fixed everything I had asked for, no questions asked, quickly, and most importantly free of charge. The problem turned out to be a faulty sensor, and the car has been running perfectly ever since. I gave them 5 stars because they delivered everything they promised, were fair and honest, and this is what matters the most when buying a car. Service was good both in quality and speed, and workers were nice. read more

Scummy place. Mack's lied to me about sending me the check for my scrapped vehicle, which I expect constitutes mail fraud. There was some strange problem with my address and the check was supposedly returned to them twice. I went to the post office, got the issue resolved, and Mack's agreed to mail it a third time. I never receive it so I call Mack's and they claim it was returned to them a third time. They rudely refuse to make another attempt or do anything else to help me, and told me if I want my check I would have to come pick it up. I take time from work to pick up the check and it's sealed in an envelope with a sticker from the post office that says non-deliverable. The date on that sticker proves that they only ever made one attempt to mail it. The second and third attempts were a lie. read more

Went there to get new rims. The first time we went in, they seemed like there was 100 better things they'd rather do with their time than help us. Then when we finally went in to get the rims they were slightly more expensive than we anticipated. I didn't feel entirely welcome there, even though I recognized some of the staff from high school. They could all serve to be a little more friendly. Three stars. Three and a half if I could. But I can't. And I care as much as they seem to have. read more

I never knew this place was in the town I moved to 8 years ago. I needed a engine for my accord and I was lucky enough to call and find a used one from them with low miles. I was impressed with the willing to help and get me the correct part for my car. When I arrived they were very helpful with assisting me until i left their facility. i don't usually leave bad reviews, but this has pissed me off beyond belief. do NOT go to mack's auto recycling in urbana. they are unfriendly, ignorant, and don't know what they're doing. my car has been out of commission for about a week now because i needed a new alternator. i went to mack's to get a used alternator and was informed that my model of honda has one of two alternators. the man helping me went out to my car and after examining under the hood, decided it was alternator A and sold me a dirty, rusty, ugly looking alternator for $50. come to find out, alternator A is not the right part and the guy was wrong. i went there saturday afternoon hoping to exchange it for alternator B but they are closed all weekend. i gave up and went and bought a brand new alternator B at autozone. a friend of a friend put the new part in my car and i returned the original for the core charge. i put the old one in my backseat with the receipt to return first thing monday morning. i walk in all smiles and jokes about the wrong part and am ignored for almost 10 minutes. finally i am greeted with a cold "what do you need" from one of the men behind the counter. i give them the part and tell them they gave me the wrong one, i already bought the right one, i just need to return this one. after a glance, the man denies owning this part and tells me that i'm mistaken, this is clearly not theirs because its rusty and dirty and "looks like its been sitting for a while." i tell them its only ever been in my backseat for less than a week, and it was sold to me in that condition. the man that sold me the wrong part jumps in and insists that the part i brought in is the original alternator and they can give me back $5 for the core charge but its not their part so they won't accept it as a return. this is obviously not the original alternator, as the alternator that fits in my car is alternator B and the alternator i'm trying to return is alternator A. both men just shrugged me off and went back to their computers. i am seething at the unacceptable service and unbelievable excuse to not return the part. i didn't tamper with the alternator, it certainly wasn't "sitting for a while" (at least not anywhere other than their dirty warehouse). if i could give this place zero stars, i would. just awful! read more

Found this place on Parts Hotline and bought a windshield from them. They had the part ready and waiting when I arrived, and were very concerned that I had it properly padded and supported for the trip home (after they carried it out to the car) because, as they reminded me, they could not warranty the windshield once it left the lot. Reasonable policies, fair prices and good service. I'd be happy to use them again. read more
