"I knew a girl, she was a macho man But it's alright, I wasn't fooled for long" (Talking Heads) Macho Taco is a medium sized taqueria and Mexican restaurant that has some pretty nice specials to get you in there on Mondays ($8 Quesadillas), Tuesdays (half off on tacos), and Wednesdays ($8 burritos). We were there on a Friday, so enjoyed no such discounts, but the two of us did have a very good lunch for a little over $26 after tax. Food We were pretty impressed by the range of their menu. They have eight appetizers (think nachos, elote corn, jalapeno poppers), entrees (quesadillas, burritos, flautas, enchiladas, chimichangas), street tacos, and specialty tacos. Just about everything is under $15 (the street tacos are under $4) and the most expensive thing on the menu is a double sized Macho Burrito for $20.99. We ordered a $10.50 Chicken Quesadilla. It came on a flour tortilla and was pretty packed with cheese and chicken, plus some chopped lettuce and tomato and a small container of sour cream. Sometimes similar restaurants offer a small container of pico, salsa, guacamole, etc., but not here. The portion was good sized and half came home with us. BTW, you can upgrade your quesadilla with rice and beans for $6 if you are so inclined. Our other order was a fish taco and a calamari taco at $5.99 each. Both were served on a corn tortilla with chipotle aioli, shredded cabbage, pico de gallo, and sprinkle of queso fresco. The fish taco was very good with a good-sized portion of crispy beer battered fish inside all of that goodness. The calamari taco had bonus of a layer of melted cheese on the corn tortilla, but I was somewhat disappointed by the calamari. It was just two breaded and fried rings, and one of them was "minúsculo", if you catch my drift. But, hey for $6 it was still good. The taco fixings were excellent, and I especially liked the fresh and crisp shredded cabbage. We split a bottle of water for $2. Service There was just one young lady at the ordering counter, and she did a good job keeping the line moving and was helpful when we had some menu questions. After we ordered, she gave us a number to place on our table and the food came out in a very reasonable time. Hot sauces, napkins, and plastic silverware are self-service at the counter. When we finished our lunch, we needed a takeout box for our leftovers. There was no one at the counter, so we helped ourselves at the stack of them off to the side behind the counter. Ambience They have two dining sections at the front of the store and down the side wall beyond the counter, so there are plenty of tables and chairs to sit at. The décor is colorful yellow and orange walls, black and white checked floor tiles, with a few Lucha masks and Mexican inspired artwork and wall decorations. Conclusion The food was solid! Delicious, generously portioned and reasonably priced. If you're in the area and have a craving for Mexican food, you'll enjoy your visit. BTW, I didn't mention that parking is super easy. The girl at the counter was pleasant. The restaurant itself is kind big, there's plenty of room. But it's like someone went to a taco spot once in SoCal and then went on Amazon and searched "Mexican Stuff". There are a ton of holes in the wall that looks like someone had the intention of repairing and painting over and then just lost interest. Food? Looked really promising!! Burritos were pretty massive so I was pretty excited. They come out looking good, well prepared as far as the tortilla isn't coming apart. They did a good job putting together a burrito that wouldn't fall apart. But that's it. The rice is prepackaged, stale, fake yellow rice that has a weird, off putting flavor, I got carnitas and my wife got carne asada, neither tasted like anything at all. The carnitas ( a slow roasted pork ) honestly tasted like a pork tenderloin that had been thrown in a crock pot with zero seasoning. The bits in my burrito were grey and honestly off putting. Location has ample parking. Spacious interior. Quick service. Tacos taste great! If you are super hungry the birria vampiro hit the bill just right. However, I was not too hungry so it taste very greasy to me. I held it with napkins and the grease passed through 3 ply of napkins. We were staying in Holyoke and decided to go check out some places for shopping, when we found this little gem. Solid 10 on the queer-o-meter. It's a low key, no frills place with a limited menu. But what they do offer is deliciousness on a tortilla! You can't go in here expecting table service and an expansive menu of fajitas and table side guacamole. It's right next to a karate dojo, similar to the Netflix show "cobra Kai". It's a smaller restaurant, it offers seating for about 30 people max. The food at Macho Taco is much to be desired and leaves you with nothing but a feeling of satisfaction. The nachos with Birria are loaded with toppings and flavor. The enchilada tacos are creative, crispy, and loaded with toppings. The Birria Tacos were crispy and paired incredibly well with the consommé (but after trying the enchilada tacos in it as well I can't imagine any food that doesn't). All three items were split between two people and even though I arrived very hungry I left satisfied. Very very good. Hip/trendy take on Mexican cuisine. I was a little concerned when our order of three things came out to over $40 but came to find that my husband had unknowingly ordered probably the largest burrito available in the state, if not the world. The birria tacos were very good and the consume was flavorful, the elote fries were excellent with the fresh corn and cheyene pepper, and the burrito was excellent. Absolutely would recommend - they have modified table service so you order at the counter and they will bring the food over to you. Takeout orders were popping off as well while we were there. Note that they do have modified hours during the big e, they closed at 7 instead of their normal time on Friday and I believe that goes for the whole weekend during the fair. read more

We were visiting relatives in Connecticut and we ended up in MA for the day. We were a bit burned out on holiday food and we found this place. Restaurant is small, but has more room in the back. You order your food, are given an number and sit down and wait. The wait seemed a bit long, but we didn't mind as we were just chatting and catching up. I love Mexican food and this was outstanding. I had the Birria Vampiros, husband and I shared the Elote Fries, and he had the Wet Burrito. My Birria Vampiros were delicious, hot, fresh and melty. The dipping sauce was perfect. The elote fries were good, I think it could have used a bit more flavoring. My husband's Wet Burrito stole the show. I'd heard of a wet burrito, but just thought it meant one with sauce. This was more of a stew on top and I'm drooling now just thinking about it. This is going to be a new "must stop" every time we visit family. read more

We ordered Macho Taco catering for a party and it was such a hit!! We had about 25 people. I ordered the quarter pan of chicken tacos and the 10 carne asada burritos and there was so much leftover! The chips and salsa were delicious. The burritos were a hit and I got many people asking where they were from. I also ordered the small tray of churros which were so good! I put them I. Little cups with a scoop of ice cream and topped them with the caramel sauce they provided and chocolate syrup, whip cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar! They were soo good! When I called to place the order the girl who took my order was very nice and helpful! And overall the price was great! Will definitely recommend and use again in the future. I am a Mexican food snob. S-N-O-B. I'm from San Diego so it comes with the territory. I live in CT but was making deliveries in MA. After my last one, I pulled up the GrubHub app to try something in MA since I'm not up there often. "Macho Taco." Hmmmm, OK First thing I noticed is that their California Burrito has French Fries. That is the definition of a California Burrito & no one else I've tried in CT understands that. So I ordered that & some elote en vaso (I think it was called Elotise), & a horchata. I showed up to pick up my order & the inside reminded me of home. From the pic of Zapata to the Ranchero music playing to the pic of El Santo & Blue Demon. So far, checking all the boxes. But the food? Oh HELL YEAH!!!!! The elote reminded me of long border waits (the good parts anyway), the burrito was a bit of filler but still tastes great! By far the best Mexican food I've had in my time on the East Coast. I was told that not only was my server from Los Angeles, but the owners are from SoCal too. I'll make the trip again. Was expecting a lot more based on the current reviews and photos so here's my take from a non-local. First glance: the menu appears to be a bit more sit-down in vibe. Once you get inside though it feels like a to-go spot. Not quite a Mexican grocery vibe but the counter definitely leans that direction. We ordered chips + guacamole, two Cali burritos, a chicken burrito & a wet burrito. Everything took a really long time to come out (~30min). Chips were greasy and cold and needed salt. Guac was fine but needed salt and lime. Our chicken burrito was missing the chicken. The Cali burrito had a single jalapeño at the bottom; I wouldn't fear spice levels if you visit! The wet burrito was covered with what I would equate to as a canned marinara sauce; horrible would be an u understatement. The chicken was cubed and felt like it had been boiled. It had that rubbery texture that made me happy the chicken had been forgotten in the other burrito. I was only able to get down a bite or two of the wet burrito. Pricing is high for both quality of food and sizes. In total with drinks it came to over $80 for 4 people without tip. The interior is low brow, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but in this space it continues the vibe of a grab & go type of establishment. Don't get me started on the back hallway to the restrooms or the odd smell at the back of the restaurant. I'd highly recommend not visiting the restrooms while you're here and if we end up with food poisoning I most definitely won't be surprised. read more

Came to the casino just to try this place. I had seen it one time before and the fish tacos on the menu caught my eye. When I ordered I immediately knew it was going to be a challenge, there was a lot of confusion, or so it seems. I ordered the American taco with beef, a fish taco, guacamole and chips and a Boston lager. After about 15 minutes the order was ready and the guy working the front gave me the food. He had a bit of an attitude anyway and when I asked where my beer was he tried to say he already gave it to me. He obviously didn't so I corrected him on that. Now the food. The guac was old and brown, the chick were not fresh or very good at all. The fish on the taco was a breaded piece of fish and greasy. Everything was falling out of the American taco. My wife and I really enjoy good Mexican food - the real stuff not Chi Chi's! Nothing wrong with Tex Mex either but I love the authentic flavors and spices of the real stuff. We really liked Macho Taco! I love spicy foods - my wife likes flavor but not heat and here that was no problem! We're avoiding bread and rice carbs, so I had the Chorizo bowl, and she had the chicken bowl (I think it was called Birra which was chipotle pulled chicken) and they were both fantastic. One annoying and limiting quality of good Mexican food is when they overcook the meats or reheat meat over and over making the meat very dry. That was not a problem here my chorizo was mouthwatering, but the birra was spectacularly tender ....which is often not the case with Mexican food and made it spectacular! Another differentiator of great food of any style, and super important with Latin food is fresh veggies. These guys great house made hot sauce - it was the tastiest bowl I have had in years and that's saying a lot! Lastly - Great service - this isn't a fancy place, but despite that the counter help/ server was another differentiator - she was really nice, super friendly, and suggested great options for us both! I liked it so much I had them wrap up an EXTRA meal to go and will have it later or for lunch tomorrow!
