I have been attending the core strength classes (called TRX) for over a year now. The class size is kept small and the instructors are fun, encouraging, upbeat and positive. I wasn't able to do 3 sit ups when I started. Now it's my strength. Anyone can do this as every exercise can be as easy or difficult as you need. My child almost drowned in a small pool in a group class of 4 kids with the instructor just next to him. I saw my child loosing the grip of the handle and slipping under water. The instructor did not even notice, was busy with other kids. I was behind the window and ran towards the pool screaming to the instructor to help my child. He was underwater for nearly 30-45 seconds, which seemed like an eternity. I am scared to death to think what might have happened if I had not been there watching. All the good that happened in this school was erased by this one single incident. I pulled out my child from this school and got a full refund. read more

Ok, it's about time I reviewed the Machine Swim School since my daughter's been going there for quite a while now. She'd taken lessons back in England but progress had been very, very slow. Fortunately, Machine Aquatics was close by to where we now live in Vienna and we have not been disappointed. The set up is basically classes in giant bathtubs (or small swimming pools if you like) which have wave machines to create a variable current against which your child has to swim. The instructor is always in the pool with them, always watching their technique and always on hand to correct them immediately if they make a mistake. And just for good measure there is a video recording facility available so that, if necessary, they can show your child what they're doing wrong. My daughter's progression was amazing. She's 9 years old and went from confident doggy paddler to a good level of front crawl and backstroke in the space of a few months with two lessons a week. We're so pleased with her technique. The only thing to note (and the school is very honest about this) is that your child will also need to swim in a pool outside the school to get used to the 'endurance' aspect of swimming i.e. doing consistent lengths. Obviously, in a very small pool, even with a current, they don't get this. Plus, the classes are only 30 minutes and with other kids in the lesson, your child will not experience what it feels like to have to do 'lengths'. But all in all, if you want your child to learn how to swim quickly, with on the spot quality instruction then this is the place to go. The school admin (Brett in particular) is excellent. They are very friendly and very accommodating about changing day or class time. You can watch your child's class on a tv screen or, if you can bear the heat, you can wait in the pool area itself. The changing rooms and facilities are clean. Swim kit is available for sale and good quality wi-fi is available for for free. I can't give Machine Aquatics a higher recommendation! read more

As a former competitive swimmer, I have always hoped that my kids would grow up to love the sport. However, I was nervous signing my three-year-old daughter up for Machine Aquatics Swim School because I feared I may be pushing her into structured lessons too early. Fortunately, the Swim School has been better than my highest expectations. It has been the perfect introduction to swimming for my daughter. And more importantly, she loves going (which is pretty incredible if you knew her personality). My daughter goes to the Swim School once a week for 30 minutes. When I signed her up, I expected her to do it for about a month or two before she got tired of going. She has now been going for about six months and still enjoys it every time. This is likely due to the great staff at the Swim School. My daughter has worked with two instructors (Sandy and Nancy), both of whom provide a great mix of structured lessons with fun activities. I expected the Swim School to be a place where my daughter could safely have fun playing around in the water, and then that would hopefully lead her to like the water enough to learn the fundamentals as she got older. My daughter does enjoy herself, but to my amazement, she is also really learning how to swim. Just this week, she swam freestyle across the entire small pool. And then Nancy was thoughtful enough to show my daughter what she had just done on the tape-delayed video monitor just above the pool. There is no amount of money I wouldn't spend for another experience like that. The great staff extends outside the pool also. Every week, my daughter is greeted enthusiastically by Brett. It would be easy for him to just sit behind the desk and have mundane administrative interactions with the parents. But instead, he goes out of his way to interact with my daughter and make the experience fun from the moment she walks in the door. The great service at the Swim School is complemented by the nice facilities. The changing rooms are spacious and clean. There are toys for the kids to play with while they wait. And the best part is the remote video monitors in the lobby. I can watch my daughter like any proud father would want to without distracting her or interfering with her lessons. The setup of the Swim School is entirely new to me. I am used to musty smelling rec centers overrun with kids and instructors. Machine Aquatics Swim School is really a revolutionary idea that makes swim lessons so much better for parents and kids. As is likely abundantly clear, I will be signing my one-year-old son up for Swim School as soon as he is old enough. I hope he likes the place as much as my daughter and I do. read more

We have been here for four lessons now and it is a great place. The first time we came to check it out the owner let us in and showed us around even though they weren't technically open, which was great! My 6 year old is fearful of the water and the teachers are wonderful with him. Lessons are available during the weekend and easy to schedule. My son has made more progress here than in two years of trying the county rec center classes. The people here really care about the kids and their progress and the service definitely makes a difference. The small lap pools are also perfect for little ones and less intimidating for them than the big, noisy county rec centers. Love it here!! read more

Both my kids have been swimming for Machine for three years. They have great coaches who take a personal interest in each and every swimmer. They work them hard to achieve their goals, but also make it fun. We also used the Swim School for stroke technique work and it made a huge difference for both of them. My son no longer has "monkey feet" in his breaststroke. Dan and Paris are both great people who truly care about their business and run Machine Aquatics the way I wish all businesses were run. It is very rare for me to write a review of a business, it is even rarer for me to give 5 stars. However, I think when businesses go out of their way to make their customers happy, they deserve recognition. My son started at Machine Aquatics at 3 years old with a wonderful instructor named Claire. My son is probably the most cautious three year old you have ever met and it takes him time to get comfortable. Claire was patient and kind with him and got him to trust her. He went from being scared of getting off the side of the pool to jumping right into her arms, submerging his head into the water, and coming out smiling. When Claire left her position as instructor, I was nervous about how my son would react to her replacement. The new instructor was not as patient as Claire and my son's tepidness caused her to basically give up on him. My son ended up spending most of the class playing with toys on the sidelines while the other kids were learning to swim. I brought my concerns to Brett, the Operations Manager, and he agreed that my son was doing much better with Claire than with her replacement. He promised he would look into a solution for me. A few days later he called me along with the school's manager, Nancy Monaghan. They both expressed their commitment to finding the best fit for my son. They told me that they contacted Claire and asked her about her methods and how she got my son to do so well. They then moved my son to another class with an instructor who was more similar to Claire. They also said they arranged for a meeting between Claire and this new instructor so that Claire could give the new instructor tips on how to approach my son. They also offered to allow my son to attend both the new and the old class so he would have as much exposure to the water as possible. In addition, they were going to suspend my payments until they were sure that the new arrangement was working for my son. We haven't gone to a lesson yet with the new instructor, so I don't know if it will work out. However, I was so overwhelmed by their efforts to make sure that my son learned how to swim in the most effective way and that the method was tailored to his specific needs. As a mom, I can't begin to express how much I appreciate that kind of effort being exerted to help my son thrive. Businesses like this deserve to be recognized. We waited over 6 months to get a spot in one of the Machine Aquatics Swim classes, now I understand why this place is in such high demand. If you want your kids to, not only learn how to swim, but also love the water, there is no better place than Machine Aquatics Swim School. read more

The Machine Aquatics Swim School offers the best swimming program in the area. My two children started at the swim school when it opened in November of 2012. Both of my children have loved the experience, and always look forward to going to lessons. The instructors are knowledgeable, kind, and fun. My son was four when he started. Within six months, he was able to swim a legal freestyle and backstroke. At five, his skills had advanced to a level that he was able to (and thrilled to) join the competitive team. My daughter started lessons when she was almost two. Her skills and water safety have improved dramatically, and her love of the sport is inspiring. She tells me often that she just can't wait to race like her brother. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Dan, Paris, and Nancy, the people managing the school, are amazing. They have taken a genuine interest in my children and their development. When they go to the swim school, they feel important and special. When they swim well, they don't want to share their accomplishments with me; they want to tell Dan, Paris, and Nancy. In a nutshell, if your children want to learn to swim, take them here. It will prove be one of the best decisions you have made. It has definitely proven to be the case for me. read more
