The beers are solid, [[HIGHLIGHT]]the atmosphere is laid back[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], and the service is always on point. Big shout-out to John M for making the experience even better with his welcoming vibe and great recommendations. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Whether it's your first visit or you're a regular, you'll feel right at home here.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

michelada and a shot of mezcal!

Machete Beer House is hands down one of the best spots in town! From Monday to Sunday, the bar staff impresses with their amazing energy and attentiveness. Every visit feels special, no matter who's behind the bar, but I have to take a moment to specifically highlight Adilu. Adilu is a gem! Her attentiveness is unparalleled; she always remembers my favorite drink and makes it before I even have to ask. What truly sets her apart is the way she cultivates rapport with everyone who walks through the door. It's like being greeted by an old friend every time! She takes the time to chat and make personal connections, making each visit feel warm and welcoming. Because of this incredible staff--including Adilu, of course--I find myself coming back to Machete Beer House time and again. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The combination of fantastic service and a great atmosphere keeps me coming back for more.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you're looking for an amazing bar experience, this is the place to be! Cheers to the entire team!

Machete brings the craft beer vibes of North Park right into the heart of National City. From a delicious selection of craft beers to amazing cocktails, this bar has something for every palate. The staff is friendly and inviting, be sure to look out for Adilu, who always greets guests with a smile and has an impressive knowledge of drinks. She'll help you choose the right beer or recommend the perfect cocktail. If you find yourself in South San Diego, Machete should definitely be on your list of places to visit.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I LOVE coming in and hanging out with friends at Machete.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All staff is super nice and welcoming. They make you feel at home, especially my girl ADILU!!! She's super friendly and always has the best attitude. She brings a energy to the bar, plus she amazing at mix drinks. Definitely recommend this place especially if Adilu is behind that bar!!

Been here a few times on weekends! Jett always chill and funny dude,I may hate him but I love his grandma. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the chill vibes[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

The DJ nights are a blast, with music that sets the mood whether you're up for dancing or just chilling with friends. They've got an impressive selection of craft beers and cocktails, and if you're not sure what to order, Cali has the best recommendations!! Plus, the food vendors right outside are a major bonus--grab some food and bring it inside to enjoy with your drinks. Definitely recommend checking it out!

Tender Hooligan has been in business since 2024 and it's known for its unique blend of high-fidelity vinyl listening, specialty coffee, craft beer, and cocktails. The audiophile cafe and bar is located next door to La Pesca Cevicheria on Third Ave. We had a 45 minute wait time for dinner at La Pesca and ordered a few drinks while we waited for table. Tender Hooligan functions as a community hub with a record store, themed spaces, and events like live music and game nights, offering a cozy, eclectic atmosphere for working, socializing, or enjoying music. The menu features unique drinks like the Ube Espresso and Jeepney Latte, alongside food and a selection of soju cocktails. I ordered a beer michelada. It's such a fun hangout check it out!!

We got everything in it, and added avocado for $1. The peperoncini was free to add on the side. The sandwich was yum, but for $7, it is the best I've ever eaten. Service: 4.5/5 The person who took our order was so kind, offering us water when we didn't order any drinks and making sure we needed nothing else while we ate. Atmosphere: 4.5/5 It's so so cozy in here! I think it turns into a bar after dark, and the place is the right ambiance for both AM and PM. It was decently packed, and there are games to borrow! I would recommend this place for a casual lunch, a coffee run, or a third-space hang out. Amazing, no notes. Final rating: 4.67/5 (rounding up to 5 on Yelp)

Outside, there was a band/dj combination playing 90's music from all genres, and a nice fun crown outside dancing. The weather was nice so I could sit inside and enjoy the music. I am not a big burger person but this place def topped the scales in a positive way! Their burger was amazing! The sweet potato fries were a little overdone (dark) but not burnt so I didn't have to return them. But the star of the show was their version of an espresso martini, but made with tequila. GAME CHANGER! SO SMOOOTH! I was disappointed they had run out of the cornbread. I am only in town for a few more days so I came back tonight for one last espresso and to see if they had cornbread, which they did. Huge portion, delicious flavor and honey butter adds another layer of deliciousness! Worth it. Laid back atmosphere tonight. Large space, lots of room, friendly staff both visits. Def worth a trip. And good parking! Which is worth the drive, if you know anything about San Diego.

What a secret surprise hidden within the courtyard of a boutique hotel!…read more Keep in mind, street parking is the only option, but trust me it's worth the hunt. As you walk up, you'll see huge windows looking directly into the restaurant's kitchen, where all the magic happens. You may even spot a restroom along the way and wonder, "Am I actually in the right place?" Trust me--you are! We made a reservation, and the team was incredibly accommodating when we ran into some traffic and arrived later than expected. Since everything on the menu sounded amazing, unique, and completely different from what we normally order, we decided to go with the tasting menu, aka the Weekly Ritual. We each chose different dishes so we could try as much as possible--and I'm so glad we did! The drinks! The cocktails were just as creative as the food. As a whiskey lover, I had to try the Whisky Sour, aka Wolfsbane--Earl Grey, citrus, dark tea, and bright acid with what they describe as "the calm before the burn." Well... I loved it so much that I couldn't stop ordering them until we officially shut down the restaurant. Oops! Now, the food! For the first course, we tried the Baja Caesar and Crème de Poblano. The soup was such a surprise--the heat slowly creeps up on you, while the Caesar may look simple at first glance, but it was an absolute explosion of flavor. For the second course, we chose the Ceviche Negro. Its striking black color doesn't prepare you for the bright, vibrant flavors of the fruit and perfectly prepared fish. We also ordered the Smoked Tuna Empanada, and honestly, I haven't had anything quite this memorable since some of the incredible food I experienced in Peru. It was simply a delightful little pocket of magic. The third course brought braised beef with butternut squash purée, perfectly prepared Brussels sprouts, and an incredible mole. We also couldn't pass up the squid ink-braised oxtail. We never sleep on a chef who wants to reinvent the wheel, and this was exactly the kind of creativity we were hoping for. And, of course, we had to finish with both desserts. The perfect ending to an incredible meal just the right amount of sweetness to close out the night. We truly couldn't have asked for a better experience. From the incredibly creative food and cocktails to the welcoming and accommodating staff, every part of the evening felt special. A huge thank you to the entire team for a phenomenal experience! We'll absolutely be back sooner then my wallet wants.
