No permit is required, and parking is free, which is a huge plus. The beach stretches far out, from left to right, and you'll see. One of the incredible highlights is viewing the jetty, located at Indian Neck Beach straight ahead and to the far right, Great Island. The tide will affect the beach since it's located on the bay side. You can expect to see many shells and rocks when it's low, making them visible. I personally like it to some extent because it gives a whole view of the beach. Anyone who likes swimming wants the tide high, no questions. In that case, the water will be stretched far in, leaving little sand. It's very peaceful at this location, and the sounds of the waves are gentle and enjoyable to hear. Over the years, this has always been a stop on our journey to the beautiful Cape. I am so glad I finally learned the beach's name. I've been wondering about it for a long time.

It's more secluded and less crowded than most other beaches in the area. There's a large parking lot near the beach access trail, but a daily or annual pass is required. As with so many other listings on Yelp, the map location is incorrect. Do not plan your trip using this location unless you want to spend your day at a stranger's home in Wellfleet.

Honestly, why the hell not?…read more During a very brief day trip to the Cape, we were looking to see a particular lighthouse (Nauset) and to see some big ass coastal bluffs which after twenty seconds of research made Marconi an easy choice. It truly must be a hell scape in season, but when you're visiting in early April and it's in the low 40s with a barking wind, even on a Saturday, there were only four other cars. We got the views we were looking for and poached a few shells/rocks for some mementos. While the visit was brief (25ish minutes - too crazy cold to make it any longer) it is indeed beautiful here and worth making a visit. (It's also worth mentioning the Captain Obvious that in the offseason you are able to avoid those pesky NPS entrance fees but if you need to use the loo, it ain't happening here since all of that is closed and of course there are no lifeguards, so watch out for Jaws.)

Coast Guard Beach seemed great also except for the fact that we would have to park and then take a shuttle to the shore. We decided on this beach, which seems to have the same feel as Coast Guard. We got there at about 945am on a Tuesday morning in August. There were only a handful of parking spots left at The Beachcomber. Parking was $30 but we got a voucher to use toward food or souvenirs from The Beachcomber (the food and mixed drinks there were very good). The beach is accessible by a pathway on a sand dune that is tall and steep. Going down was easy. Going back up required a few rest stops for me. I'm pregnant and I was carrying our 1.5 year old. It probably would've been easier for me had I not been pregnant but this is definitely not a trek for anyone with physical limitations. My 4 year old went up and down twice but her legs were really burning the 2nd time going up. This is one of the best beaches I've ever been to. Sapphire water and soft sand. Quiet crowd and limited cell service, which added to the relaxation. The shore is a little rocky but doable without water shoes. Once you walk into the water a few feet from the shore the rocks give way to soft sand. The water was cold. I almost felt like I was taking an ice bath. But it felt great once I got acclimated and really helped me cool down in the 85 degree weather. It was a really special experience and so picturesque. One important note: there is a danger of sharks because of the booming seal population. We saw seals in the early afternoon swimming playfully about 20 feet from shore. Some locals will not get in the water if they spot seals-- that means sharks could be nearby. There were lifeguards on duty and also a shark patrol boat along the coast but it's still a little scary! The current got very strong in the early afternoon. I'm used to the crashing waves at the Atlantic beaches in NY and this undertow concerned even me.

First off, you do need a beach sticker provided by the town of Wellfleet. However, in the nighttime, it does not matter. There is a huge parking lot for enough spaces, and most likely you will find a spot during the daytime. A bathroom is provided in the lot in the center. There's even an ice cream truck featuring hot dogs and water that's parked toward the ocean. For the fun, there is a big hill to climb down either way (left or right) that leads down to the beach and sands. Normally, you'll find a lot of people with their blankets and sometimes looking for a spot can be very time-consuming. There are a couple of lifeguards here at Newcomb, but only patrol a small area, so please be careful in the water. Bonfires are allowed but require a permit in the same place where a beach sticker is picked up. Getting here to Newcomb is very easy as it is located at the end of Ocean View Drive. If we enjoy it here, someone else will too!

There is one parking lot located across the pond that has a decent number of parking spaces. There is a trail on the other side of the parking lot that leads to the sand along with benches and picnic tables. In front, there is a big pond that is long, hence the name Long Pond. Looking on Google maps, you'll see why that's the name. Some changes have been made since we came this year with the main dock to dive from being moved to the side, with a note on it saying private property (I have a photo of it). Back then, anyone could dive from it. Another additional upgrade that was well needed was providing more benches in the sand. I find that to be very helpful for people who do not like sitting in the sand or just don't like laying in the sun. The beach has a decent size but most of the time, especially in the late afternoon to early evening, it will get packed. There is usually enough room toward the pond but may have to go into the back toward the woods. Motorboats are not allowed at this pond, in fact, any. However, paddle boats are allowed or in general anything nonmotor related. With that, have fun at Long Pond!

The one parking lot is very small and usually crowded but if you don't mind waiting 5 or 10 minutes, somebody is usually pulling out. There is also handicapped parking right next to the beach. There are two portopotties, no showers, no running water, and no food concessions. A no frills beach. The water is super clean in this kettle pond formed by glaciers thousand of years ago and no motorized boats are allowed. There is a decent sized wooden raft to swim out to and hang out or fool around, throwing each other off. This second option is popular with kids. The actualy beach used to be mostly grass which has slowly diminished over the years and is now mostly sand. There are two wood benches. There are shade trees in a few spots. Great for large groups up to maybe 15 or 20. You can access Long Pond Road from the center of town or Route 6 or Ocean View Drive. If you do not have a beach sticker, you will either get a ticket or be towed. I am not sure. Beach stickers are available on the town pier for those folks who have proof of residence, either as permanent ie own property or vacationers with proof of stay from the establishent where they are staying. Small sailboats and canoes are OK for this pond. There is a small connecting pond to the left of the beach.

Then there are the seals, which seem to be there at all times. Signs tell you to avoid them because there are also sharks in the area, and you may tragically be mistaken for a seal. On our second visit three years later, it was all as we had remembered. We'd forgotten the name of the beach, but got an accurate tip from the wine pourer at the nearby winery. Seals, surf and the good cheer of the sparse group of people on the beach. I hope we will have the chance to go for a third visit.

It's closeness to the water, allowed us to find secret spots to relax in close to the water. We also saw seals playing in the water. They definitely drew a crowd, along with photographers but it was such a sweet experience. The beach sand was soft and the water was gorgeous.
