A dark picture of a regular room
Samir S.

I'm lost, I can feel my head wandering, corridor to corridor up and down stairs. She said it would only be there but yet I look, my mind a cacophony of numbers one after the other. They seem to come almost at random shining through the vestibules bang, bang, bang. Opening my eyes I finally I found my room..... Some would call this place charming and it certainly has the olde world feel to it. For those that remember "Morse" there was regular filming here, the staircase and dining room has understated beauty with old features such as the original oak beams and coats of arms that adorn the walls. Very Oxford, with a price to match. The staff were friendly and did not put a foot wrong but I left wondering how the hotel had five stars displayed outside their door. I was in the new extension which, I presume for heritage reasons, was almost tagged on to the body of the building and meant you had to weave though an almost labyrinthine maze of corridors and steps. The rooms were nice big and clean but nothing made it stand out (though the cucumber Moulton Brown shower gel was aaaaamaaazing!). Breakfast, while not being a disappointment was again nothing special, the standard of a good 3 star or regular four star place. Dinner was above average and topped off with an excellent crème brûlée. There was little that blew me away about the conference rooms but nothing wrong. In general its a good solid hotel with has that that wonderful olde world charm but finds it difficult to justify the 5 star rating

Fantastic hotel, fabulous rooms and staff. Set perfectly within walking distance of everything really worth seeing in Oxford is the Randolph. Directly in front of the Ashmolean museum. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. This will always be my hotel of choice in Oxford from this point on. There is only one negative aspect, and it is really not that big of a deal...but it is hard to get around. There are a lot of steps up and then down and corridors that turn into mazes. I had my part of the hotel down pretty quick, but I noticed people were often lost. So, if you see a few skeletons just ignore and hope your fate is not the same. lol..really this is a great hotel and experience.

The picture looking out my window says it all. I am writing this during my stay. They were ablE to check us in early, but this is a Delux Room, so don't be fooled.

This hotel has the worst staff. The white wine from the minibar had been replaced with water - brought it to the staff to ask for a replacement - they accused me of the fraud - refused to replace it. If you want to overpay for a 1 star hotel that thinks they are a 5 star hotel - you have found your Mecca.

Lovely grand hotel in the heart of Oxford (although my Dad says it used to be THE place to stay, it went downhill after it got taken over my various hotel chains). Friendly helpful staff, lovely rooms with chocolates on pillows (always a bonus), powerful showers, crap view of some air conditioning vents (oh well, curtains hid that!), great breakfast - the black pudding was a delight, on the greasy and slightly spicey side, yum! Here for a wedding and the reception rooms were lovely - high ceilings, spacious, plainly decorated. Lots of Oxford themed decorations. I'm giving 4 not 5 stars as they had Sky One, ITV 2 etc on the TV in the room, but no E4, which meant I couldn't watch the Hollyoaks omnibus while I was getting ready.

The grand old dame of Oxford. Without question the most famous hotel in Oxford's historical core. Morse has been filmed here, Michael Jackson has stayed here and i can't even entertain the idea of forking out the £275 quid to stay a night here! Expensive, but extremely luxurious. My Graduation ball was held here and it really was the most fantastic venue. Some websites do special rates for the Randolph, I think as cheap as £150 per night. If you can't afford to stay here, at least have a snoop round. Go for afternoon tea or just poke your head into the lobby. It's really quite a spectacle.

Extremely charming and great place for a drink. Food not so great but I wouldn't chose this for food.

A funky, historic old hotel in a nice location. A bit stuffy, but clean and comfortable. Breakfast is excellent.

Review Highlights - Macdonald Randolph Hotel

While I would love to be a frequent guest for afternoon tea, it is a little rich and sweet to do too often.

This is my second visit to the hotel, and I splurge this time on a room called the room with a view. An amazing patio of more than 500 ft.² greet to you as you walk into the room outside floor ceiling windows and doors. The room is super tech savvy with almost all functions controlled from a panel on the wall next to the desk. This includes automated lowering and raising of blinds for the floor ceiling windows, as well as closing and opening full length draperies for the same. The bathroom is super spacious with double sink vanities in a large walk-in shower. This would be a wonderful room for anyone to celebrate the holidays in. It's equipped with a super comfy king size bed, and down comforter. There's also two couches in the room, facing the large picture windows and a small round table with two chairs for indoor dining. But the patio is unreal and includes a larger outdoor dining table for four and two large chase lounges. What makes this room so spectacular is the views of Saint Mary's church and the whole of Oxford University. Aspires of Oxford are magical and at night it's absolutely spectacular. Everything about this hotel is five star from the service the moment you check in until you check out. Room service is fast and efficient as is maid service in the mornings. Included with the room is a fully stocked mini bar and wine refrigerator. that's updated daily. You're also given a large platter of super fresh fruit, that is also refreshed daily. There's a hot pot for making tea and a really nice coffee pod machine that makes espresso. The wall opposite the bed sports a large flat panel TV. Location of the old bank hotel is prime real estate in the center of high Street in the middle of shops, pubs and restaurants. Cross the street and you are immediately on the grounds of Oxford University a wonderful place for exploring. Can't say enough about this hotel, the physical aspects, the service, and the location. I will always choose this place when I'm in Oxford.

The design is excellent, a beautiful desk and chairs and tables--modern and tasteful. They keep everything impeccably clean. The art collection is stunning. The bath spacious, even in my room for one. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and charming. Coffee and tea are abundant. The lounging areas--a snook in the rear of the hotel--is a great place to prepare for the day. The food is excellent. The hotel sits on Oxford's High Street, right across from the towering All Souls College. Old Bank is a perfect hotel. I can't wait to stay there again.

I can't imagine a better hotel to stay in in Oxford! Although 'hotel' might be a little inaccurate…read more- this place is more of an inn or b&b. The location can't be any more central - down a tiny alley, right on top of the Turf Tavern and just around the corner from the Bodleian and Trinity College, Bath Place really is right in the heart of Oxford. Booking is a bit of a pain - like many smaller English hotels, they prefer that you book by phone, which is less than ideal when you have to pay international calling rates, but that's just a small hiccup. We arrived a bit later than anticipated due to some car trouble, but the hotel was perfectly accommodating. We were greeted by the receptionist and two friendly terriers, and shown to our room. I'd requested room 12 specifically because it's one of their few rooms with two beds, and it was perfectly lovely, but not for the mobility-limited. It's up a narrow, winding flight of stairs and there's no lift, so anyone who might have issues climbing stairs or those with giant luggage might struggle. We didn't mind, and had the top floor of the cottage to ourselves with a view of the bell tower and a pretty back garden. The room was quite spacious, especially for an historic property, and well appointed with a dresser, vanity, and mini-bar complete with tea and coffee fixings. The bath, although lacking a shower, had a generously-sized tub and a heated towel rail, which I was supremely excited about. We had a good night's sleep, uninterrupted by Turf revelers - with the windows closed, we couldn't hear a thing, although I imagine it might be different in the summer - and in the morning availed ourselves of the breakfast buffet. Breakfast is included in the room fee, and the buffet spread wasn't lacking. Meat and cheese, fruit, juice, cereal, yogurt, and tiny glass jars of jam and honey. Fresh bread and warm croissants were brought to our table, as well as a tiny French press of coffee made to order. There was also an option to order additional hot items like eggs or beans on toast, which we didn't bother with as the buffet was plenty. Although checkout was at 11am, we were able to leave our luggage at reception until our train later that afternoon while we explored the town. The room fee was very reasonable, especially considering the historic nature of the property, the central location, and the wonderful breakfast. I can't wait to return to Oxford and stay here again!

We chose this establishment for the one night we were planning to stay in Oxford. This property has the best location of any hotel or bed & breakfast in the immediate area. It's right on Broad street almost smack dab in the middle of town. Frankly, the location can't be beat. We stayed in a remarkably average room. The bed wasn't very comfortable, the television had very poor reception and limited channels and the bathroom was VERY oddly designed; we had to dangerously climb onto a polished marble "step" to enter the raised bathtub area. Again, the saving grace for this property is its wonderful location. Also, the complimentary breakfast is delicious and hearty. To my knowledge, this property does not have an elevator available for guest use, so be prepared to begrudgingly carry heavy suitcases up a steep flight of stairs to the reception area, and then possibly up more steps to your room. Pleasingly, all the staff we encountered were friendly and accommodating. However, after dark, the area has a generally seedy feeling to it, with dim lighting and sketchy characters lurking about. I definitely recommend this property to anyone planning to stay overnight in Oxford. Third time's a charm: the location of this establishment is IDEAL.
