What's wonderful experience to share! Amazing Traditional Macanese Cuisine. The Chef/Owner Kei de Freitas and his wife Hoeyyn Ngu are welcoming, caring, funny, and very attentive yo your needs and culinary experience. The ambiance in the restaurant brings two distinctive regions together - this is what Macanese Cuisine consists of: a fusion of different regions of Asia and Portuguese cuisine. Cuisine was exquisite and service to match. I highly recommend a visit to be treated to a truly wonderful dining experience at the Macau Kitchen. Do make reservations in advance sine the dining is usually booked and it's an intimate experience. Viva!!

Both dishes were outstanding and showcased exactly why this restaurant is so highly recommended. The lamb shank was incredibly tender, rich, and flavorful, practically falling off the bone with every bite. The gravy paired perfectly with the creamy mash, creating a hearty and satisfying meal. The pork shank was equally impressive--crispy on the outside, juicy and succulent on the inside, with deep, savory flavors throughout. The accompanying red cabbage and slaw added a nice balance and freshness to both plates. Portion sizes were generous, the presentation was excellent, and every component felt thoughtfully prepared. If you're looking for authentic Scottish comfort food in Edinburgh, Makars Mash Bar is a must-visit. Both the lamb shank and pork shank were exceptional, and we'd gladly order either again.

It is like the bar sitting area in a small room but it is perfect. Nicely decorated and cozy. The server and receptionist are both very friendly! I ordered lamb shank with bacon green onion mashed potatoes and an elder flower cider! It did not take too long for the food to show up and I did not have lunch so this was perfect and just right to the spot! Lamb shank was soft and tender and full of flavors! It was so so good. Mash potatoes is also very yummy and flavorful! The elder flower cider is very floral and I really like that!

Wines by the glass a bit basic. But they filled a hole I had. We had a wonderful salad that was comprised of lettuce, feta, capers, candied, peaches, walnuts it was fantastic We also had the scallop hors d'oeuvres and artistic blend of complementary ingredients Our soup was sweet potato, I think It had pumpkin seeds and a slight drizzle of something with a slight kick that wasn't too much and complemented the delicate flavor of sweet potato We also tried a white fish, Sol That had a curry sauce I can't say I was a fan of the meal because in my opinion, I was hoping the curry would be so mild It wouldn't hide the fish but in this case it did. it could've been curried tofu and I probably wouldn't have noticed that it wasn't fish. It was still put together quite well heavy gracious, not a thing for me The dessert we had was Panna cotta with some frozen cranberry squares and dollop of boysenberry? It was fine dining for sure We experienced the special treat that only occurs rarely. Every single employee on the floor assured us. When not busy. They all checked every table, not just " their own" Magnificent service.

We got the curry and the scallops along with their octopus appetizer, olives, and a side of green beans. Plenty of high quality food for two. Service was also on point. They ran out of ingredients for our first drink choice, so the bartender came up to ask what we might like him to make! Like many places in the EU/UK, the service was friendly but hands off. We probably had one of the last seatings before close but never felt rushed. Finally, the atmosphere is causal yet fancy. I feel this restaurant could be a great date night spot or just a chill evening dinner out. I would recommend. Enjoy!

From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere struck the perfect balance between cozy and clever, with a unique and humorous Wind in the Willows / Mr. Toad-inspired décor that gives the place real character without feeling gimmicky. The food was absolutely top-notch. Every dish we ordered was clearly made with care, high-quality ingredients, and beautiful presentation. From the Scotsman scallops to the steak pie and desserts like the sticky toffee pudding and cranachan teacake, everything tasted as good as it looked. This is the kind of place where you can tell the kitchen takes pride in what they send out. The drinks were just as impressive and creative, well balanced, and easily some of the best we've had on this trip. Definitely a place where the bar program matches the strength of the kitchen. Service is where this place truly stands out. Sean and his team created a welcoming environment, and our server William absolutely knocked it out of the park. Attentive without hovering, friendly without being forced, and genuinely invested in making sure we had a great experience. Between the incredible food, outstanding drinks, fun atmosphere, and exceptional service, this ended up being one of the best dining experiences of our trip. I would confidently recommend Badger & Co to anyone visiting Edinburgh who wants a memorable gastro pub experience.

Even after arriving, we still had a bit of a wait for our table, but we were able to order drinks from the bar while we waited. The atmosphere is what really makes this place special. The Wind in the Willows theme is charming and thoughtfully done, creating a cozy, beautiful space that feels uniquely Edinburgh. As for the food, it was good but not outstanding. Two of us ordered the chicken pies, one had the steak pie, and one had the macaroni and cheese. Everything was enjoyable enough, but nothing really stood out, especially considering the prices. Service was fine, though not particularly memorable. Overall, I would recommend Badger & Co. for the ambiance, decor, and experience rather than the food itself. It's a lovely place to stop for a meal or drinks and soak in the atmosphere, but the food and service didn't quite live up to the hype for us. 4/5 stars.

Eventually they gave it to me, but again, confusing. I went this week for the fourth time and was actually served, which was a nice change. It's a beautiful place to sit and work, with lots of nooks, couches, plants and windows. They have foosball. They play good music. The food is good. The concept is "Swedish Living Room" which is cute. I tried the big Green Salad with added steak. Very tasty, fresh, good dressing. The steak (+£4) was a very small portion. I also had their sweet potato fries with spiced aoili - yum! Really really good. And the warm chocolate cake... incredible! Like a brownie but superior. It was still a bit slow, and a bit overpriced, but I had a nice time at least. For all my earlier disappointing experiences this time was better. Sunday Roast: All the standards, but fancy. The really differentiator was the beef, which seem aged and very high quality. Great tender texture and nice gravy to go with it. Though a wee bit small portion of meat. The veggies were cooked very nicely with a lot of freshness and textures, not mushy like some pubs serve. The only weird thing is that the yorkshire pudding seemed to be deep fried. Added an overly crispy texture which as kinda weird; I prefer traditionally baked. Toffee Apple Pudding: More like a bread pudding than a sticky pudding. Filled with great flavor and a few nice baked apples bit on top. Great toffee sauce and ice cream to round it out. Blackberry & Lime Soda: So much better than those highly sugared sodas you get at the store. Definitely tasted the fresh fruit and artisanal methods.
