It's also the most central of a lot of the ones I've been to, easily walkable from SOMA and Downtown, and even the Clinton Library if you're especially determined. It's nestled in the Southeastern corner of MacArthur Park, all in all a great place to walk around and enjoy a day outside, or catch a museum visit (I hear the brunch at the art museum is terrific!) and it's a nice perk for us dog owners to have a spot where we can let the furbabies run off-leash for a little while. There are some hills to get your fetch-oriented dogs extra tired, and some cool rock sculptures that dogs love to run through. It gets a few demerits that are mostly seasonal: it's the muddiest of the parks I've gone to (even more so than Burns, which was a shock) and it also has almost no shade, so if you're there on a hot day, be prepared to have no escape in this park. Still, that also makes it one of the best places to go when the weather is ideal :)

We stayed at the watering hole most of the visit. My boxer enjoyed laying in the pool to cool off. This is a nice little dog park with an open playing field, a fire hydrant as well as some black rubber play tunnels in one area. Bring your own balls to throw. The other part of this bigger dog area is shady in the morning (don't know about the rest of the day) with lots of benches and chairs for humans and a good supply of doggie poop bags. There is another part of the park for small dogs. I recommend going if you're in town and need a dog park. A bonus is that the Hollywood Park is right next door. People were walking for exercise in the shade (!) and taking their dogs for walks there, too. P.S. My GPS showed the dog park on the opposite side of the street than it is actually on.
