Really cute store that's eye-catching in the mall. We got a box of 5 for $13 and tried caramel vanilla, cinnamon, chocolate brownie, lemon and fudge flavors, with none of them really standing out or blowing my mind. It seemed like a number of the cookies were made days prior as they were really dry and cracked easily, they lacked the chew macarons should have and the feet were uneven. If you're visiting MOA as an out of towner and need macarons, then sure, try them. But if you live in the metro area, there are better options that don't require a trip to the mall. read more

This was the first time going here and I would have totally missed it had it not been for a run to the bank next door. My first taste of a macaron was at recent Taste Of Minnesota and I was hooked. This shop is in the strip mall on Baltimore in Blaine Minnesota. Super cute shop. Very bright and colorful. Service was spectacular! As this was my first visit here they explained the pricing on all the macarons and even pointed out that they had slightly damaged Macarons at a discounted price. It's been years since I've had a bakery/macaron shop macarons. I was excited to try they're macs and my expectations were high because I thought I was finally getting some macarons made by a professional baker (I ate homemade macs for 2 yrs). The macs were cute and insta worthy, but they're all looks, no substance. I felt very disappointed because they're too crunchy and hallow. The shells didn't taste matured and they didn't absorb the flavors of the fillings. They overly sweet and the shells didn't have that hint taste of almonds (from the almond flour). Stopped by here a couple weekends ago when at the mall. There was a line going out the store which was intriguing, so we thought we would give it a try. The beautiful colors and unique flavors kept me in. I ordered a passion fruit macaron and my girlfriend got root beer. They were the perfect macaron consistency, which is a slight crunch when you bite into it, and then followed by a soft inner layer of the shell, and of course the lovely creme center. My only concern was I barely tasted passion fruit, and Emmy barely tasted root beer. Very subtle at the end of eating the actual macaron. Your cookies aren't good, so why do you have to not be nice? The guy who took our transaction was nice. The cookies could be WAY better.The recipe kinda sucks. They weren't uniform and didn't fit into the 10pk box at all.This isn't normal for macarons. The point is to have perfect uniform little pieces of heaven. That was disappointing. They weren't put in the box organized either. I took them out and reorganized, smoothed them over, tilted them backwards to look pretty for my pic. But that's where the positive comments end. The woman working there definitely did not want to be there - they were not welcoming at all. The macarons itself was so incredibly disappointing. The 5 couldn't even fit in their box so they wrapped one separately (that's how uneven the macarons were). I couldn't finish any of the five I chose. I took one bite, of each (and some I had to spit out because it was disgusting) and didn't finish any of them. It didn't taste like any of the flavors it's supposed to be. It was the taste of stale macarons, no doubt. I like my cookie to filling ratio be pretty even or at least 60% cookie and 30% filling. But this was 90% cookie (or even more!) to 10% filling! The stale taste is something I hate when it comes to macarons and this was the worst of it. 0.5/10 (.5 for the decorations). Highly disappointed. read more

Great customer service! I bought a box of five macarons as a gift for mother's day. One of them was a little squished because it was just that fresh! The lady behind the counter gave me an extra one in case I wanted to swap it out with the squished one. No charge! I also bought a lemon macaron for myself. These macarons do not disappoint! I gave a 3 star since the quality of the macarons were all over the spectrum depending on what flavor it was. In general the flavors were very mild so they all tasted relatively the same. Many of them were very hollow resulting in the filling being a large blob directly in the middle of the cookie instead of spread throughout. Let me start this off by saying my introduction to Macarons was at Laduree in Paris. Needless to say, I have high standards in Macarons. That being said, I have gluten and dairy issues so I do not get to eat them very often anymore. I was super excited to hear that this Macaron shop had opened up in the mall as even if I could not eat them, I was happy to have the opportunity to share them with my friends! I treated two of my friends to a Macaron each and I was delighted to find out that they had a variety of gluten free as well as one that was dairy free! My partner had the Passionfruit, my friend had the Peanut Butter, and I had the dairy free raspberry. The Macarons were tasty enough but they were not mind blowingly wonderful. The raspberry jam was pretty tasty. It had a nice tart finish to it, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The macaron itself had bubbles on the outer layer as well as an uneven texture and color. My friends both seemed to enjoy theirs well enough. If you enjoy a sweet treat, I am sure that these will bring a smile to your face. If you are familiar with french pastries, you would know that everything is basically down to the arts. Macarons are no exception. Having been to many bakeries and pastry shops, I've become quite knowledgeable in spotting a well baked vs poorly baked pastry. Unfortunately, Macarons by Maddie Lu falls under the latter. I went here on multiple occasions due to the unique flavors they offer and since my fiancé and I had our niece and nephew over, we thought it'd be a fun thing to do. First 2-3 visits, the macarons were consistent in quality and we always went with our niece and nephew. The last visit was a complete disappointment. The cookie: - texture was crunchy, absolutely crunchy with no airy consistency or chewy texture that should have been on the inside. It's the same consistency of a cookie that's been left out for a while. If you want a better understanding, try leaving a piece of bread out for days and when it's been dried up and hardened, take it and wack it against something until it goes clack clack. This was the same experience. - the appearance of the macarons are nice but you can tell they just outright use too much food coloring. When I took my first bite into one of their hard cookies, my fiancé pointed out how blue my mouth and teeth had turned. Then as he took his bite, I observed the color come off of the cookie onto his teeth and tongue. - flavor is probably the best asset they have with their macarons because the flavors are the only thing they get right except that it is a bit too overpowering. My suggestions? - if you are more like me and prefer the traditional classic macarons, I suggest visiting other establishments such as Cocoa & Fig, Rose Street Bakery, or Patisserie 46. Tips: You will get a surprise in the bathroom after you've had some of their macarons. Instead of the normal stool color, I was met with teal colored stool. So was my fiancé. Not the seaweed green type of color either. This was the same color as the deep ocean when a drone or helicopter goes over the tropical waters. My fiancé and I will be sending the leftover cookies to the lab to be tested on what was really inside these cookies. I believe these cookies were leftover from previous days' that they were trying to sell that day and as a result the cookies have gone stale. It's unfortunate if these guys are trying to cut budget and sell days old cookies just to make rent at mall of America. If it's true, it's a new low. read more

I've probably only had like five macarons in my life and I've actually enjoyed them thus far. When I first saw this shop on the corner of MOA, I was like I need to but some macarons. They all looked so cute and delicious. They were organized in a rainbow so the presentation was so colorful. I appreciate that they had flavors listed on the wall along with that box customers can use. There's a small size for one and another box to hold about five to six macarons. Not much room to stand in line as it leads to you being outside the shop therefore you can't really see the menu, so that's a downfall, but otherwise this place is pretty cool. There are merchandise items you can also get, so you aren't just getting macarons, like a macaron display case, clothing items and more. Such a super cute place. A new addition to the MOA landscape, a very delicious one I might add, Macarons by Maddie Lu colorfully stands right outside of Macy's on first floor and it's a spot you don't want to miss! Following Maddie's bakery Something Sweet in Coon Rapids, here comes a tiny little corner of a shop that is 100% dedicated to the most beautiful and yummy macarons you will find. I am and always have been a huge fan of macarons and they really are hard to come by because it's such a tricky dessert to make. And it's even trickier to make it well. You don't have to worry about that here, however. The macarons are absolutely delightful, soft and airy, just how they should be. I visited the shop for the first time today and was amazed by how cute and bright it is. Mostly white decor is a perfect backdrop to all of the wonderfully vibrant macarons. They really have a macaron in every possible shade you can imagine and the flavors are even better. I opted to grab the "large box" which fits 10 pieces and we filled it up with flavors such as Nutella (yaaas), Cookies N Cream, Smores, Almond Joy, Chocolate, Cinnamon Roll, Srawberries N Cream, Birthday Cake, and Orange Dream. The large box goes for $22 which might seem steep, and it really kind of is, but macarons are just one of those boujie candies that are insanely complicated to put together so I kind of get it. And they are so delicious that you won't care how much you're spending. I think getting one of the box options is a better deal if you want to experiment with flavors and try a couple, but you can also buy any macaron individually for $2.15 a piece. Besides the rainbow of flavors you see at the entrance of the store, they also make specialty macarons (like the unicorn glitter ones that I saw today) and jumbo macarons that are almost like a small actual cake filled with a creamy vanilla-y center. If you have a sweet tooth and don't want anything too heavy or overly sugary, I think this is a spot for you. Macarons are so delectable that you could actually eat 10 of them and not feel a thing except the joy in your heart. Anyone can find a flavor they will like here. They also sell broken macarons/ the ones that didn't turn out for half price, which is great because it still has the texture and flavor so who cares if there's a crack in it! These were fabulous! Never liked macaroons until now! Stopped in to look around and ended up ordering a pack of five including dulce de leche, lemon, strawberry, Andes mint, and s'mores. We also got a jumbo vanilla macaroon for 2.50 as it had a small crack in it! They were all good but the lemon and vanilla definitely stood out! I would highly recommend getting a classic vanilla if you stop in and if your a fan of lemon or fruity for sure try the lemon! Might be back to try more! read more
