Terry the hygienist was great and Dr Lee is always a pleasure to see. I've been going to this dental office for many years.

I was encouraged and pressured to "hang in there" as two college students were trying to pass their exams. After a while one of the "approving professors" came along and noticed tears streaming down my face and asked me if I was okay - he quickly removed all of the gear and clamps that were pressed against my teeth and gums. Since then I have experienced severe anxiety whenever going to the dentist (even as something simple as a teeth cleaning sends me into anxiety), so finding the right dentist for me is (literally) more important than finding the right medical Doctor. I recently moved back home after 30 years and was now in search of a new dentist that I could trust...and it cannot just be anyone!! Cut to: Dr. Hieu at Atlas Dental... I cannot express (enough) the level of kindness, compassion and patience that Dr. Hieu and his crew exhibit. Upon my first consultation, I went in expressing the level of fear and trauma that I have with dentists, and they took me under their wing with such loving care and ease. I would have to admit that I put Dr. Hieu under a microscope as I would compare him to my previous dentist out of Los Angeles (who probably has 25 + more years of experience) and who was a season veteran of talent and of one in putting me at ease. Not only did Dr. Hieu exceed those expectations, he even did an amazing job in redoing some veneers of 15 years. At every mark, not only did I notice Dr. Hieu checked every box...but he started to exceed the boxes of his predecessor in L.A of 25yrs. At every step he made sure I was comfortable and happy with whatever work was being performed at the moment... as well as his assistant Gloria - Gloria is MY GIRL!! (Whatduup Gloria?!!) From the smallest corners of the back rooms to the largest corners of the front office of Kelsey and Kim, everything and everyone is pure perfection. You know you found your home when you miss your dentist and his office! I literally feel like I'm part of the family and (shockingly) I look forward to going to see them all - I don't know what's wrong with me - but I guess you can attest it to their perfection and professionalism. Just a footnote: I waited one year to write this review because I didn't want to rush into anything...I wanted to make sure I wrote the most accurate and honest description. Now...If I could just get Dr. Hieu to watch a certain movie that he is suppose to watch...he would get six stars!! (Wink Wink!! - lol)

So this was the first time at atlas dental so I warned them and it turned out he was chillin' and talking to Viviana about the tv show he picked on the tv screen on the ceiling! Dr Hieu was great too. My 9 month old cried when she saw him and he got fluoride on her tiny little teeth. He knew that would happen too so overall everything went great!

Now that I have visited the office several times, I feel like I can provide an informed review…read more I've had an initial screening with x-rays, a cleaning with root planing and scaling (if you just shivered a little, that was the correct reaction), filled a cavity and replaced an old filling, and got fitted for a night guard. I am not a great patient; I have anxiety about visiting the dentist. It isn't irrational - I got this way after a lifetime of experiences that don't need to be recounted here. Just wanted to say I'm not crazy, I'm just a little broken. Because of this, I don't go to the dentist very often. I take really good care of my teeth and gums and hope for the best. I knew that I had a filling that needed to be replaced, though, so I've been on the lookout for a provider. I had one, but they kept saying I had a phobia and I know this might be a small thing, and maybe for me it was simply an excuse to not go, but I don't have a phobia. I have anxiety. There's a huge difference. Anyway. The office is on Sandy, in a beautiful blue house with big windows and a sign that says, "new patients welcome". I drive by it all the time, so I had many chances to be reminded and think about it. It took a year or two, but I finally called and made an appointment. They fit me right in for an intake. Great covid precautions in place, not too many patients in there at one time. It's a small practice, so you're going to see the same handful of people every time. For me, that is essential. Trust - it's a real thing and its hard to build when the office has a huge staff. The first appointment was fine, I knew there would be some poking but no heavy machinery. Every time the doctor said my gum gap was more than a 3 I died a little on the inside because I knew it meant some intervention was coming my way. Sure enough - gotta get those gum pockets cleaned out, fill a cavity, replace that filling (the one I could see was deteriorating and I don't know - I hoped would magically get better while I slept?), and get a night guard before I ground my teeth down to smooth stones. Everyone was so nice, explained things in detail, and made sure I understood the plan. I left dreading the next appointment, honestly, but at least I felt like I could make it through. The two appointments for the root planing and scaling also went very well. I'm a red head and studies have shown that we are extra in many ways, the pertinent one being that we need more anesthetic when getting procedures. I had several shots, which in themselves were unpleasant. The cleaning, though, once I was numb, wasn't too bad. I really enjoyed the conversation (my half of it was mumbled) and the time went by fast. Today I had the cavity filled and the other filling replaced and I was a MESS. Just a mess. Shaking, crying, having a really hard time keeping it together. And it was all me, there was nothing happening to make me upset or uncomfortable except for the wild ride going on inside my mind. I hate being this way, and I'm working on it. But it's hard. Dr. Agee and the assistants, and the receptionist, and even the dog know that I'm struggling and they make it as easy as they can. They wait, and they give me space and tissues, and a towel to squeeze. They tell me I can stop them any time I need to, and I did. Then, when it was time to get back in there, Dr. Agee fired up that drill and took care of it like he was working on a formula car in a race pit. The part I really had a hard time with went by in a blink, and I am so grateful for that. The nightguard fitting was so easy to do it doesn't even need to be talked about. Let me wrap up this long review by saying that they are stuck with me now. I know them, I trust them, I will come back (regularly, not just every couple of years). If you're nervous and would like to talk to me about this, send me a message and I'll be happy to describe my experience. If that helps, I'm here for you. I think this practice would be good for just about everyone, the nervous and the not nervous. These are good people providing important service in a gracious way. I'm so glad to have found them.

I've always hated…read moregoing to the dentist--it gives me major anxiety--but every time I have an appointment here, I leave wondering why I was ever worried in the first place. Bling is hands down the best dentist in Portland--and I can confidently say that after trying two others over the past eight years. Melissa is the best dental hygienist I've ever had: gentle, efficient, and so kind. The office itself is beautiful and calming, with TVs mounted on the ceiling so you can watch your favorite show during your cleaning. I watched Modern Family today, and Melissa didn't even mind when I laughed mid-cleaning! The front desk staff is equally wonderful--friendly, quick to answer the phone, and always helpful. I love that I can also text them, which came in handy when I needed to update my insurance recently--they responded right away. Their multiple appointment reminders (including same-day) are another big plus. If you're looking for a dentist in the Portland area, look no further--Bling Dental is the one!

I was a patient here for a few years, and feel it was generally not worth the money…read more The office is beautiful and they have state-of-the-art equipment which made a few procedures easier. I choose a dentist based on quality, not a swanky office so I stopped going here. Bonding on a chipped tooth was obviously uneven, and in another instance it was fragile so shared off within a few months... I went elsewhere to have it done correctly. The two crowns they did at Bling had different problems after about three years: One crown cracked in half and the other fell off. There was decay under the crown that fell off. My overall impression is that the dentists are pushed, rushed, and overworked... that's my impression, I don't know that for certain. What really stings is the atmosphere. A few of the women in the office act condescending. At times I felt like I was an inconvenience rather than a valued patient, right up until it was time to upsell... and they loved to upsell. Every cleaning felt like a sales pitch for expensive extras, making it seem that the focus is on the bottom line rather than my well-being. I understand wanting to maximize profits but you have to draw a line somewhere . I would rather have a dentist that makes me feel valued and acts enthusiastic about their career than they are about making as much money as possible.
