This place is very shady and if you're brave enough to risk going here, you should look closely at your check before you pay. And the service was awful. Although we had no trouble getting seated or ordering, our server disappeared after the food arrived and did not refill drinks or ask if we needed anything. No, they were not busy. When the check came, we noticed that we had been overcharged. We were charged extra TWICE for items that were supposed to have been included with the meal. After asking the server about the discrepancy between the menu and our bill, she stated we were mistaken and didn't offer a refund or any other corrective action. She looked at us with a straight face and expected us to overpay and walk out the door. So I asked to see a menu. I looked at the menu again to verify what came with the meal and the pricing and pointed it out to the server, who still failed to acknowledge her mistake. After I asked to speak with a manager, she disappeared again for 5 minutes before finally returning with a refund and no apology or explanation as to why we were overcharged. I really, really hate to give this 1 star, so I hope you'll read why ... I'm just so annoyed after my experience here tonight. It was our first time & while the decor is super cool and the atmosphere is fun, the service made me leave wayyy sooner than we had planned. It's also excessively loud, but that's not a factor in the rating, just an FYI. We were waited on right away, so that wasn't the problem. What just makes me wanna scream is that I asked about the free check in popcorn and the waiter said "it should be fine, but let me get my manager just to ensure"... Never did the guy come back. We saw him running around to other tables & passed by us multiple times, but he didn't come back to us until we had finally had enough and I flagged him down for our check. We were planning to get our free popcorn and a few more drinks, but we were so displeased with the service that we just decided to leave. And after I requested the check, it still took another 5-10 minutes just to get that. We didn't try any food, so I can't review that, but we wanted to try it!!!! Ugh, so annoyed because this place had great reviews otherwise. Maybe we just got a fluke dude. RUde anyway. They say you don't know what you've got until it's gone, and this was certainly true of me missing the late night fried delights of the United Kingdom. One of the things I found myself missing most were the mounds of chips (fries for the uninitiated) served with the ubiquitous curry sauce on the side for dipping. It could set you right no matter how many brain cells you had killed off that evening. Ladies and gentlemen, I am pleased -- nay, THRILLED -- to report that the best chips and curry sauce I've ever had are currently being served at the excellent Mac McGee's in Roswell. I kid you not. I've actually had dreams about them since. Also on offer is a range of pub classics that will likely have me buying bigger pants over the next couple of months. I love new places in downtown Roswell. I love, love, love the decor. It's classic/tacky. There are two bars, one upstairs and one down. The waiter that helped us was super friendly and helpful with menu and drink choices. The food seemed a little on the spendy side, but it well worth it. I had the steak frite dinner with fries and practically licked the plate it was so good. I can't wait to go back and try a few more things. read more

I am an Irish pub fan and have seen the good reviews for this place so stopped by recently to try it out. This pub has a very authentic feel with the wooden booths and decor. I sat at the bar on the lower level since there was a private party going on upstairs. Otherwise, I think the outside porch upstairs is the place to be. If you are a beer drinker, their selection of beers on tap is good but as you would expect for an Irish pub leans towards Irish/British selections. I was a little disappointed that the beer list on their website is not kept up to date, because there was a Red Brick draft listed on the web site that was not available on tap. At the downstairs bar, there were about 10 beers on tap; the upstairs bar had a different selection, but they do bring drafts down from upstairs to downstairs, so don't let that stop you from ordering something you don't see. I had the Left Hand Nitro Stout, which is one of my favorites, and a Scottish IPA that was just OK. The bar seating is a little on the small size, with room for about 8 people, so I can imagine if you don't go on off hours like I did in the late afternoon it could be crowded and lack seating. It's not really the right place if you're a sports bar fan, since they only had one screen playing a soccer game even though there was a Braves game going on at the same time. The service was excellent and the Scottish bartender serving that afternoon was very friendly and attentive. I ordered their chips (fries) based on recommendations I have seen in other reviews. I strongly recommend them. They did indeed taste like they used hand cut potatoes. You have a choice of extra dipping sauces, which is a nice plus, and I chose a horseradish cream sauce, which was excellent. I definitely plan on trying this place again and would like to see how they do with fish and chips and other pub staples that they have on their menu. read more

Went last night (10/3/15) with my Fiancee on our first night experiencing downtown Roswell and what it has to offer. Have to say, extremely and totally disappointed with this location. We have enjoyed the Decatur location several times, but everything about this one is wrong. Drinks: Beer and whiskey list extremely lacking compared to Decatur location. Ended up getting a "campfire mule" which tasted like a soapy glass mixed with ashtray. Not sure if that's the fault of the restaurant or the ingredients though. The beer my fiancee was recommended was a Gate City belgian which was pretty awful and lacking in all the ways a belgian style ale should be. Food: Absolutely awful. We ordered the bacon wrapped dates and Chicken 65 as apps, but decided not to order any dinner after the experience. The chicken came out dull and lukewarm and looked like it had been sitting out for over 15 minutes before making it to us. The curry sauce was under-spiced, goopy and covering chicken that was NOT fully cooked. I tried two small pieces but couldn't stomach more. The bacon wrapped dates were burnt to small crisps, but my fiancee stomached a few down due to hunger. Service: Okay at best. The waitress clearly didn't know what to do about people not enjoying their food. However, the food isn't the waitresses problem so I can understand, Service was fairly slow (it was not crowded) but again, that's hard to say if it's a management issue or the fault of the particular servers. There seemed to be a miscommunication with management, as after we had paid and were leaving, a manager finally came over and spoke to us but had no idea we had already paid. He did take the Chicken 65 and Mule that we didn't eat/drink off the check, but had to run back and cash out since the waitress had already completed our payment. Honestly, the manager seemed embarrassed and defeated. He nodded in agreement about the quality of the food. Props to him for coming over and trying to make it right though. After dinner: It was an unpleasant, but not unexpected, experience to come home a few hours later and end the night and begin today between the toilet and the bucket. Extreme food poisoning issues for me, according to the local urgent care. I'd be wary of any chicken product they carry, as I'm 90% certain that was the culprit. All in all just a terrible experience. If you want to try a Mac McGees, hit up the one in Decatur. This one clearly suffers from some management and kitchen issues that could result in you praying the the porcelain gods as I did. Don't make my mistakes. read more

My buddy and I came in for after work drinks, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's pretty solid bar with a great beer, whiskey, and food assortment. The ambiance was relatively quiet, and slowly started to pick up as the night continued. It has a huge open bar space downstairs, seating upstairs, and two patios - outside and a nice balcony where we sat. Their beverage program is impressive. Great assortment of beers on tap at the perfect temp, beer/whiskey flights, and a good assortment of cocktails. Our bartenders were polite and attentive. Our waitress was fantastic, had a great sense of humor and offered great suggestions on what to eat since it was a our first time there. She wasn't overbearing and it seemed like she knew were were there to chill out. The food was a solid B+. I had the Rueben, and while it was good, it wasn't great. It had more of a luncheon meat texture and taste, even though it was presented nicely with a tasty side salad. I guess I was expecting more of a thinly sliced traditional brisket style corned beef. My buddy raved about his sliders and loved his scotch egg. Overall, it wasn't too bad, and it was less congested and touristy than some of the other places I've been to on Canton St. read more

Mac McGee can be warn and cozy or rocking (when they have music), but there is always a quiet spot upstairs or downstairs to easily have a conversation. The food is consistently good. They have a great selection of beer, whiskey, and whatever it is that you drink. Burgers may be the best around, plus they have lots of pub favorites and a few curry options. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The upstairs is available for group functions, like events or meetings, during less busy hours. This review is based on the art of pouring the perfect pint. My wife and I found ourselves here Saturday morning before the galleries were open and we stopped in for one of the greatest of Irish traditions. Having a pint and watching a soccer match. Not many people on Saturday morning, but a true pub experience. They have lots of areas for small groups to visit and larger more communal areas too. Now for the pint. My measure of an Irish pub has a lot to do with how they pour a pint of Guinness. My first clue this would be a good spot? Two taps for Guinness. You see a good pint is poured in two parts, and that takes time. Too fast and it's flat and lifeless. In order to keep the bar moving when you get busy, you need two taps to do it right. The pint was perfect. Thick head and cascading down the inside of the glass for the full length. Bob served us and I could tell he's been doing this with deft precision for years. Really a special experience. I've been to Ireland many times and this is the best pint I've had outside of the Emerald Isle. Enjoy! read more

When Pasti's moved next door I thought the space was perfect for an Irish pub. I was thrilled to see Mac Magee's take this great space. We visited on opening night and, despite a few minor hiccups, truly enjoyed this new edition to the Canton St scene. The beer selection was very impressive with 30 taps pouring Irish pub standards and a few nice surprises. Eventually, according to the manager, they will have 500 whiskys available. We ordered the curry fries as an appetizer and they were awesome. The fries were great, though I preferred plain or malt vinegar to the curry. I had the steak tartare with more fries for my meal. Nice job on this. The two story space with balcony is great. It's very conducive to groups enjoying good conversation with a drink and bite. Magee's is a nice edition to the Roswell square and fills a niche that needed filling. read more

2 stars for atmosphere only Spent over one hour here, lucky enough to get one beer each in our party of four. The place was packed, upstairs and down, but that is not unusual. Problem is the service. Consistently bad. We sat on the balcony, which was also packed, we had no less then four employees (including the manager) tell us they would be back in a minute or would send someone through for orders. Simply amazing 0 out of 4 employees could not take and order for four beers. Especially the girl that offered us menus. We told her we had one and were ready to order beer, she left never to be seen again. Oh well, plenty of other choices in and around town ..... Ps) update. 2 in out party did not get beer. We went to the Shamrock festival in Roswell March 13, 2016. This got a four star instead of a five only because my friend who ordered the corn beef said it was kind of dry. I ordered fish and chips and it was scrumptious. Chips were nice and crunchy and fish was awesome too. The friend next to me got bangers and mash, and let me say I will be getting that next time. I also ordered the salmon on toast and that was ridiculously tasty as well. My friends got the fondue and bread and again, amazing. The staff (despite it being a really busy day) did a really good job. Macs has an upstairs and a downstairs with a bar and food up and down. The bar upstairs is larger. And the staff is very knowledgeable. I took the bartender's advice on a whiskey and he was right on point. It was a very busy day and we did have a couple of times our drinks were forgotten, but I give that a slide because the staff was working their tails off. And I'm really not that super picky about that sort of thing. Great restaurant and the food is amazing. read more

I'm quite surprised by all of the positive reviews. I'm fairly easy to please, and except for the good service, I was completely underwhelmed by Mac McGee. Firstly, their menu is certainly authentic. It may be too authentic. It most definitely is overpriced. I ordered fish and chips, normally a safe bet at an Irish pub. For $15, I was served a large portion of french fries, and a one relatively small filet of cod. For what I paid, I was extremely disappointed with the portion size. I hate being ripped off for food, but I can't help but feel that I was in this case. My girlfriend ordered the beet salad, which was basically a plate of greens and a mountain of lentils. As she took her first bite, a disgusted look appeared on her face, and she had to send it back. It was that bad. And it was like $10. Of course my thrill-seeking friends ordered the cow's tongue appetizer. I could have told them how that would go down. More pained faces and cries of disgust soon followed. I wish I could report back with better news, but many people at my table shared my dissatisfied opinion of this place. It's a great atmosphere with mediocre-at-best food that is extremely overpriced. My guess is once the novelty wears off, this place won't make the cut in the extremely competitive strip on Canton St. read more

Came here for a celebration and had a great time. There were 8 of us seated at a table upstairs. We ordered several appetizers - sausage rolls, hummus and pita and curry chips which were served with 5 different sauces - all were excellent. Although, I think my favorite were the curry chips served with the selection of sauces (we ended up ordering another). Great beer and cocktail menu to please our group. Depending on what day and time you visit, Mac McGee's is a completely different venue. If you go later or on a weekend, you will probably find yourself in sensory overload with 30-somethings flying around, trying to relive their Greek life glory days. If you go earlier or on a weeknight, free of all the distracting crowds, you will notice that the place is extravagantly decorated with eclectic wall-hangings and knick-knacks. Both levels have an interesting assortment of seating options. You can sit in a rounded booth in the corner, where the wood-backing offers you some privacy, you can sit at a standard table in the center or by a window, you can sit at the central bar, the auxiliary bar, or you can sit on the porch, just to name a few. The pub has a wide drink selection and some traditional Irish bar food that is quite tasty. The servers have always come off as gruff to me, even on the less busy nights, though the bouncer with the long hair is a jovial fellow. read more

Mac McGee is spectacular. I love the Irish pub theme as well as the atmosphere in this Roswell delicious factory. Chef Larry Powers is a magician in the kitchen and knows how to bring some "lucky charms" back from Ireland to downtown Roswell. As I type, I am having some "Irish Chips," tartar sauce, curry fried chicken, oxtail and a side of homemade bread. All of this with a Bells Two Hearted IPA. The oxtail is my favorite so far. The savory soup as well as the absolutely tender meat makes the experience. I fully endorse Mac McGee and believe everyone should hit this place up while hanging out by the Roswell Square. Went back for Alive After Five. Sat on the balcony. Ordered the "hand cut fries". Curry sauce was so weak and the horseradish wasn't much better. Some of the fries were limp and over cookeed - double fried. This place really is turning out to be sub standard. Such a shame. 3 different tables had fish and chips delivered. The fish STANK. Update: I came in to drink, ordered a Restoration Brewery beer with my friend who is the wife of the owner of Restoration. They were charging $8 ....for a HALF pint. (Which wasn't stated on menu). We asked why it was a half pour for so much, they tried to tell us it was cause it's a high gravity beer, (Cadence is NOT high gravity) and then when we corrected him he made some excuse and left. Food is good, the decor is fabulous, however, the service leaves a little to be desired. Our server had no Idea what cooked vegetables were available that day. This day was no busy at all and with us being the only ones in at the time, the server could've been more attentive. Our first time at Macs. I would give this place another star if both our desserts weren't disappointing. Came in on a Friday night and enjoyed 2 signature cocktails a cucumber melon one and a peach one. Cocktails were great. Ordered the potato, chicken and leek crepe and it was on point! Delicious. Crepe was nice and moist and just overflowing with melted leeks and perfectly cooked chicken, paired with a nice crisp arugula salad. Dessert however. We were celebrating my birthday so we ordered the Guinness cupcake and the creme brûlée. Guinness cupcake was dry and crumbly. Seemed stale and over warmed to the point where is was like chalk in Our mouths. Creme brûlée was over torched giving it a disgusting after taste and the top crust was so hard we had to literally break it to even taste it. Atmosphere was fun, live music, large crowd. The a/c doesn't work very well ESPECIALLY downstairs so it's like a heat wave of body odor. read more

I enjoy the fact they host lots of live music, and love walking into this place on Thursday night and finding a musician playing! The place has some way too comfortable booths near the front where, if you were over-served, would make for a great nap time spot! Drinks are great and although I have not had dinner here in years, seems to be regarded as a good spot for Irish fare. read more

Neat space, will need to re- review once I sample some food but the place was very well done, had some great live entertainment and a knowledgeable and friendly staff. Their food is not my favorite of all the Irish Pubs I've been to, but their burger is really great. Ordered medium rare and was perfectly done. I go there for the great service. Britney (sp) is always great. The beer selection is fantastic. I am not drawn to wine at an Irish Bar, but it's not bad. Best on the menu is the Meiomi Pinot Noir by far. read more

Roswell is the newest location of the iconic Decatur bar. The tradition of shouting at the TV when your favorite Brit soccer (football for the Brits) team is behind while holding a great beer lives on in the burbs. I understand they also show American Football in season. The draft beer selection is amazing. It includes many great American craft beers and the traditional Brit fare. It is primarily a bar with pub grub. The food is not too bad, but it is a little greasy which is how it should be. The service is almost non existent but very pleasant -- Just go to the bar to get the next beer and pay there before you leave. This could be the most authentic recreation of an Irish pub in the city. If you want snappy service and fancy food, go down the street to Applebys. read more

We were in Roswell because my husband wanted to go to a Kayak store. While he was in I saw Mac McGee's and figured let's just walk there for lunch. We got seated right away next to the fireplace which was so nice since it was cold out. The service was great. We got an AMAZING appetizer of homemade potato chips, drizzled with blue cheese, blue cheese dressing and loaded with bacon. This was probably one of the best appetizers of the year for me. SO good. I got the fish & chips & my husband got a reuben and both were really really good. VERY generous portions. We live far from Roswell but next time we're in town we'll definitely be back.
