I also met Matt the FOH manager and he was really friendly as well. My daughter ordered the fried pickles with ranch her friend ordered the queso with chips and salsa, and I ordered a cheeseburger with fries. Let's just say if you're tired of all of these Smashburger restaurants you won't find it here. This was a nice thick juicy patty, Well seasoned the fries were also seasoned well and I enjoyed it a lot. I definitely can't wait to come back and try some other menu items. The margarita was a miss. It was too tart for my taste, and the ginger was very overpowering. I finished it, but definitely wouldn't order it again. The sliders, on the other hand, were really good! I swapped the caramelized onions for raw onions, and the unique slaw that came with them was excellent. Plus, they were 50% off during happy hour, so that was a win! Kevin was my server. He was kind and the service was fine, just not particularly friendly or engaging. The ambiance was much like the other Hudson Grille locations I've visited, and the restroom was clean and well maintained. Overall, nothing was necessarily bad about my visit--it was just okay. The sliders were definitely the highlight. 3 out of 5 stars for me.

Today the boyfriend wanted a banh-mi, but I wanted something more...fried. Because I may or may not have drunk too many things last night. What? Leave me alone. While he was at Pho Truc, I asked him to visit a different truck. One that smells like grease and all things delicious. I just wanted some chicken fings with honey mustard and maybe some fries. I didn't ASK for the fries, but I hoped they would show up. And they did, and they were salty, and it was Lawry's. The fingers were actually, surprisingly good. It means so much to see a space not just say they're inclusive, but actually live it. I seriously appreciate it and can't wait to be back. Original: I've been a huge fan of My Parents' Basement for a long time. The food is incredible, the beer list is excellent, the pinball lineup is (usually) fantastic, and the whole vibe is such a great haven for nerdy folks like me. It's one of the few places where I've genuinely felt at home -- where I believed I could show up fully as myself. That's why this hurts so much to write. MPB proudly positions itself as an inclusive, safe space -- "All Are Welcome" is literally part of the mural on the wall. But recently, they installed a Harry Potter pinball machine, and as a trans person, this felt like a deep betrayal. The creator of that franchise continues to use the wealth and platform built by those products to actively harm trans people. Every sale, every license, every new machine feeds into that system. This isn't a theoretical harm -- this is material. It funds the people working to take away our rights and our safety. It's hard to describe the heartbreak of walking into what's supposed to be a safe space and seeing that machine. It sends a message, whether intentionally or not, that some of us don't matter as much when profit or popularity are on the line. I'm sharing this not to tear MPB down -- I love this place, and I want to believe in it. I want to believe that they care about the safety and dignity of all their patrons, not just in words but in action. I hope they'll reconsider this decision. I genuinely hope they'll listen. Until then, I can't keep coming back. And that breaks my heart.

What's most important was that this burger did not fall apart when biting into it. Especially so difficult to achieve for a tall burger. My grits were good texture, I didn't like that the grits were very salty, something must have gone wrong in the kitchen. The shrimp were also salty on top of that, there were cheese. My entire dish was so salty, I drank 3 tall cups of water and was full halfway through my grits but I didn't want to take it home cos I know I wouldn't finish it when brought home. Bathrooms are extremely clean. Staff is friendly and fast. Cons. They only have outdoor seating. Most of the seats are stools without backs. There were some flies and a wasp lurking in the patio. Fans were blowing away my napkins. When I paid in cash they rounded my bill up to the next dollar. Never had someone do that before. $34 for a cheesesteak, potatoes, and small drink seems to be overly priced at a take-out spot. It would be more understanding if you could dine-in or had waiter service. I ordered the Korean Cheesesteak with smashed fried potatoes and a Bourbon Peach Punch. The drink was tasty but really small to cost $10. It looked like a 6oz cup. I would prefer to pay $5 more for a full glass. The smashed fried potatoes were covered in a sauce and some of the best potatoes I have had anywhere. The cheesesteak was made with pork (also a new experience for me) and had plenty of cheese and onions.
