The trio of staff at Southgate have been wonderful to work with over the years. I had to refresh my supplies of foundation last Fall so I went in to buy more, simple enough right. Ahhh, but much had changed and I was presented with an offer to try their new products with a makeover from Yuliia. She absolutely altered my look. It is so much easier to apply this more vibrant look and I feel energized. This is not just my opinion, as friends have commented on recent pictures that I just look really great. What girl doesn't love MAC? MAC is a playground for makeup lovers. I don't shop here a lot but when I do, I have a great time. MAC is full of bright, edgy colors. They always have a new color or color combo out. I've had a MAC makeover done and it was so much fun! I usually wear very neutral stuff for me to step outside my comfort zone and go a bit crazy was hard but the payoff was incredible! I looked hot! The staff are very knowledgeable and you can tell that they love their job. Something I really like about MAC is their recycling program. If you have enough empty containers (from their makeup) and you bring them back into the store, you get something free! That's a great incentive (especially because MAC isn't what I would call cheap). They have great quality products - not just their makeup, but their brushes are fantastic! I tried MAC products for the first time at the age of 45. At 58, I still use and love them. THE best bang for your buck! Love the variety of shadows, lipstick, gloss, concealer, foundation - you name it. I've yet to find something that I haven't liked. LOVE the fact that you can recycle your empty containers and actually get something for them. I agree with Audrey H. in her post which is also why I didn't give them a rating of 5. Just one sales person over 40 would be great. Don't get me wrong, the sales staff do a great job, but come on, Honey, at my age please don't tell me I should be wearing sparkly eye shadow and lipstick - yikes! I did make the same suggestion to MAC and never received a response. I don't know why but I consistently have a more mediocre experience than expected when I visit the MAC Cosmetics store at Southgate. Maybe it's because I've visited the West Edmonton Mall location more often in the past and expect my experience to be the same? I'm uncertain. I have a whole lot of brand loyalty to MAC and so I'm always surprised when I don't find the customer service interactions with MAC staff at this location to be as positive as the ones I've had elsewhere. Still I really like how the displays are laid out here and how much variety of colours and products are available. The lighting is a bit darker here than I would prefer for a makeup shop but I do like how spacious this location feels. read more

I have came into this MAC a number of times for browsing but have only purchased on two occasions. The staff is always friendly and I have never had an issue with getting assistance or having my questions answered. They train the ladies well as all the staff I have dealt with seem to know alot about the ingredients in the makeup as well as the price points. My biggest issue comes from the fact I feel some of the price points are a bit high for the quality of the products. The lavender lipstick I purchased from here was fairly amazing in terms of color,texture,and how long it lasted without rubbing off onto my coffee mug and such so I was more then happy to part with my $21.00 in that case. However I just recently purchased a red lip glass from the Maleficent collection for about $24.00 which on the box itself claims to be "long wear" which didn't survive the iced coffee I bought from 7-11 with roughly about 75% of the initial application ending up on the straw. Mac has great products usually and alot of fun colors you won't find in other places so if your wallet can handle it I say go nuts! Just be sure to try out testers and look at all your options before deciding what to invest in. read more

MAC is my favorite makeup company. It is the place I go when I need to spoil myself a little. The ladies and men who work here are very knowledgeable and helpful without being pushy salespeople. They are also all makeup artists, which is another perk of this company. MAC does makeovers and they do special event makeup as well. I have gone here on more than one occasion -- Halloween, Graduation, Parties...etc. They have always done a phenomenal job and I have always been happy with the results. I also like the fact that they don't really charge you for the makeover. The deal is you buy $40 and the makeover is free. I love MAC. I I'm 51 and find it is still great on my skin. Doesn't sink into fine lines. Outlasts many of my more expensive brands. As well as always having one in particular colour always in stock and it's an eye colour and I'm on my 4th Pod of it. it's called SEEDY PEARL, I love it ,it blends as all MAC beautifully with almost any other eye colour. I also love the eyelash primer. It's white but once it's on your lashes it's invisible. I always get the best service, from knowledgeable girls. Except the Southgate store. I think that's why I only have 4stars up. I wish & think as a businesswoman myself that they should always on every shift have @ least 1 "older" lady working. There are many women who walk into the store look @ the way younger look @ them and turn around & head for Sears! Because it seems us older ladies don't get the help the younger girls do!!especially at Southgate, the service is not good at all in fact the girls there are just plain rude. Example;"Kelly will u help that older lady standing over there as she points in my general direction".Just a thought. I hope someone reads this review. At one point my entire makeup collection came from here and while i've ventured away fro 100% mac it's still a decent portion. I love their concelear, and I own tons of their eyeshadow. I find that the staff are average at best, it's usually tricky to get their attention. I do love their recycle program! What a great way to get people to bring back empty containers... free lipstick! I don't think I've ever actually bought a lip stick from here, but yet I own about 5 because of the recycle program. Overall, I'm pretty loyal to MAC and have been for probably almost a decade. I went to mac to purchase a product that I had heard of and upon attempting to purchase from WEM location the woman was very helpful but the product was defective so she had sent to me Southgate as they had some. Upon arrival I opened one, as if it had worked I was going to buy it (obviously I'm not a douche who just goes in tests something on my own skin and then is like nope), but this was again defective and as I finished testing one of the employees walked up to me and told me I now had to buy this defective product as I "used" it. I proceeded to purchase and then walked out turned around and returned it no problem to another woman as it was defective. Horrible experience with that individual but to the other woman was phenomenal. Seems the blonde one needs an attitude adjustment as a customer should not have to purchase a defective product after the customer has already stated that it doesn't work to the employee. Sephoras staff was wonderful and I was able to purchase a similar product and was able to test it as the staff encouraged it (because who wants to buy something broken) before I purchased. The girls at MAC are the only reason I look at all semi-presentable in the day. If it weren't for their make-up recommendations and tips, I wouldn't have a clue how to put myself together. I always find the staff friendly and the products are amazing. While I frequent Sephora, MAC is still my go-to make-up brand for all the necessities. I had Joline do my makeup on Saturday at the Southgate MAC Makeup location. She did an OUTSTANDING job. I had people say they noticed me from across the room. I have an issue with keeping lipstick on, and I didn't have to reapply even once. The lashes stayed in place perfectly, and the overall look was fantastic. The only complaint I have is that I had to take it off!!!!!!!! The girls here are awesome. Highly recommend going, especially for Joline! She certainly has the sexy smokey eye mastered. I've tried for years to find a red lipstick shade that works with both my undertones & eyes - I'm happy to say I found one here with the help of Gina! The staff was extremely busy but Gina found time to patiently help me find a shade and provide me with tips for lipstick application. Also the store was clean and well kept. I love going into Mac make up !!! They are always great with helping me find the product/products I'm looking for or can recommend a product that would work. They're make up is a bit expensive but they are great quality, feels extremely light on your skin.. They have a great recycle program you can bring in 6 containers that your make up is in whether it's foundation bronzer or what have and you get a eye shadow or lipstick free!!. They also have a regular buyer program. So if you happen to forget the name of your bronzer or foundation they can look it up in their system!! I love MAC cosmetics and the company itself and I purchase a lot of their products! I am a huge believer in good customer service and I feel that the Southgate location lacks on this. I am sorry, but I have a better experience when I am at WEM. I am not sure if these girls think that they are better then you because they wear tons of make up or what. I really have no clue why these people are are so stuck up, it just seems so ridiculous to me. Anyway I walked into the store and there weren't too many people in the store. I was browsing around as I needed to restock on lots of my products and these girls are just standing there talking to each other, another one in particular with a hijab this girl seems like she only talks to certain clients and always seems to avoid the ones she has no interested in helping, very rude. The entire time it just felt awkward, finally I had to go up to some one and interrupt their personal conversation because I was in a rush and I needed my stuff! they had no choice then to help me. Let me put my sad face on while I write this review, which has been (unfortunately) a long time coming. I'd like to point out this review is solely for the Southgate Mall stand-alone location (NOT the one inside of The Bay). I have been a dedicated MAC customer for years, as in WELL over a decade (although I still try and convince myself I don't look a day over 21). That being said, I have been to literally every MAC location across Edmonton, Calgary, etc. numerous times and normally have absolutely no complaints whatsoever...except for this location. As Southgate is the most convenient/close location for me to visit, it saddens me to say I have had more unfortunate and disappointing experiences than I wish to admit. No matter the extent of the stores busyness, I am rarely, if ever, greeted/acknowledged or asked if I need assistance. The especially annoying problem with this, on top of the sheer rudeness and lack of customer service, is the fact that at MAC you cannot simply grab most items off of the shelf, an employee must get it for you. With this being said, my visits to this MAC location usually end up with me doing laps around the store/wandering like a lost nomad while praying for assistance so I may get my items and be on my way, or standing in one spot like a creep for 10 achingly-long minutes while desperately vying for an employees attention. Not okay. Especially not okay because most of the employees I have come to clearly recognize over the years (and they would have to recognize me as a frequent/loyal customer by now...you would think) and yet I receive the same lack-luster and severely disappointing service EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. To this I say boo! Boo on you Southgate MAC! I will no longer be a fool to your completely insufficient customer service. How I wish the location inside of The Bay at Southgate had the entire selection of products that your stand-alone location does so I could wistfully bring my business there (as they are much friendlier and willing to help a girl out), but alas they don't carry some of my key items. So it looks like I shall be trekking across the city instead, possibly to West Edmonton Mall or Kingsway just to get some dang service. And hopefully less awkward wandering and gawking moments. read more

Unfortunately, giving NO stars isn't an option. I went into this stand alone store on a Sunday afternoon. I looked around for several minutes searching for a product. Sadly the four girls standing behind the counter were too engrossed in their conversation to even notice they had customers. A fifth girl was actually helping someone. I'm not sure what the point of having so many workers is, if they aren't actually working? No greeting, no offers of assistance. Pretty disappointed in the quality of service... especially given the high end prices. Won't be returning. read more

MAC makeup itself is fantastic, i love it. My low rated review is about the service at the stand alone store in Southgate (not the one in The Bay) The customer service i experienced was horrible. I went in looking for a new foundation (was previously buying drug store foundation and wanted to come back to MAC foundation again) but i wasn't sure which was the best option for my skin so i was looking forward to talking to someone and having them help me. First of all, i must have walked around the store for a good 5 minutes before someone even said hello to me. I'd like to say it was busy, but it wasn't and 2 of the girls were off in the corner at the mirror giggling and fixing their hair. By this point i was pretty annoyed but someone finally came over and reluctantly helped me. Seemed like a chore to her. So i bought the foundation and left. After walking around the mall for a bit i remembered i needed mascara too that i had forgot about. I happened to be closer to the MAC loaction in The Bay so i went to that one and had phenomenal service. There were only 2 women working and they were both with other customers, but somehow BOTH of them managed to still say hello to me and tell me they would be right there. THATS customer service. I walked around a bit and then the very bubbly blonde (i didn't catch her name unfortunately) came over and helped me. Asked what i was looking for, what i wanted out of the product and was able to give me something that worked specifically for me. She was fantastic. You can really tell who is there, doing something they love, compared to people who are just there for a pay cheque. Avoid the stand alone store and go to The Bay location for sure. read more

I am actually not reviewing the quality of the product, because I love MAC and I have a huge MAC collection :) I am actually reviewing the customer service at the Southgate location. :) I have been to that location several times actually and I usually get a great MUA who is professional and willing to help. However, I walked into that store yesterday and it was not busy at all. The MAC girls were all in a corner talking and talking and didnt even acknowlege that a customer just walked in? So, I am looking and some girl comes over barely wanted to help me I kinda felt rushed etc so then she leaves and I am walking around still looking for stuff and thats ok, but then I wanted to see a product and walked over to some MAC girl standing around like she was bored and asked her I wanted to try a product she kinda just looked at me with this ugly face she then came over to the counter gave me some brush and I had to put it on myself which I taught was wierd because usually the girls will sit you down on a chair and apply the make-up for you or even just standing there well anyway I did it myself whatever and at the end I decided to buy it. This girl didnt say anything didnt care just wanted to get it over with. I was at the counter paying with the same girl and she was just fake, snobby and pretty much rude the whole time, but yet trying to be (fake) nice. I was laughing inside who do these girls think they are ? LOL I didnt look poor or maybe they are racist against spanish girls who knows but it was just so funny. Anyway I will be going back (of course!) and if I or I see any other customer being treated that way I will get a manager next time.
