When a Filipino moves to a new city, one of the first things to figure out is where to get our food essentials. As Filipino stores go, Mabuhay is pretty standard. Here you can buy all the necessary condiments for a Filipino kitchen: Silver Swan/Datu Puti suka and toyo for your adobo, Mang Tomas for your paksiw, and banana ketchup for your spaghetti. There's bagoong, patis and even pinakurat for your dipping needs. They're well stocked in terms of vegetables and fruit; on the day I stopped by they had saging na saba, lanzones, rambutan and mangoes, as well as ampalaya, okra and malunggay. I didn't find tinapa but their freezers were stocked with bangus, lapu-lapu, longganiza and tocino. They even sell itlog na maalat. And of course there's the usual selection of different tsitsiria: Boy Bawang, Clover Chips, Piattos, Mr. Chips, Beer Match, Oishi, and even some pretty solid chicharon. I was also happy to see they even sell Purefoods corned beef, which was not available in the US. The store is nothing fancy at all but it's definitely a great place to go to get a much needed taste of home. I'm sure I'll be there often! read more
