When I first moved to Haarlem, I struggled to find spices to cook my Iranian family's recipes, and really, anything more exotic than red pepper flakes. Paired with a burning desire for meat with taste, and fresher produces, finding Slagerij Mabrouk was like striking gold.
Not only do they have amazing produce, like fresh persimmons pumpkins and pomegranates, but they have excellent cuts of lamb, chicken and entrecote. The good pasta, rice, and obscure grains like barley, quiona and bulgar are plentiful and moderately priced. Plus their dried nuts and fruits are about 50% cheaper here than at the local Albert Heijn.
Service with a smile and a very central location make this an absolute gem in Haarlem. read more
