This was a decent pizza place, they have other foods but we didn't try anything else but garlic bread. We tried the chicken pizza and a meat lovers pizza. Both had plenty of ingredients, they didn't skimp on that part! Service was hit and miss, we had a really friendly and energetic high school student who often checked on us to see if we needed anything. The only issue was our garlic bread appetizer came out after we got our pizzas. We needed to ask about them and could see them on the kitchen counter getting cold. The server apologized saying he never heard his name called to pick them up. It happens. There is plenty of room inside for two people or a larger group. Mabe's Pizza is a classic pizza joint in downtown Decorah. Certainly nothing fancy in terms of the venue, but the pizza is definitely good. We went for lunch on a Sunday, so it wasn't too busy, but the service was attentive and courteous. We both had pizza and the thin crust style comes cut into squares. How does Mabe's not have 5 stars? We were traveling through Iowa in a road trip from NC to SD. Dacorah was a pit stop for the night. We were told to go to Mabe's. The restaurant was just what I expected for a small midwestern town. The employees were kind. The food- outstanding! Food was excellent but had a little issue with my food. I was told my pizza would be about 2 minutes after the rest of the tables food arrived. Then, about 3 minutes later I was told the kitchen messed up and dropped my pizza so they had to remake it. Pizza, chicken fingers, fries, and onion rings was the order from Mabe's during May 2020. I ordered the kids chicken fingers and they were perfect. I LOVED LOVED LOVED the French fries!! I don't know how they made them but they were so good! And, local bbq sauce made in Iowa-even better!! The onion rings were also super tasty! Mmm! I would order those again! The pizza looked pretty good but seemed soft on the bottom. I only ate one piece from a corner without cheese so I don't have a good enough take on the pizza to give an accurate review. Everyone else seems to really like it so there is that! I would definitely stop by here the next time I'm in Decorah. Terribly slow. We sat and wasn't informed that our pizza would be 80 minutes! We sat for 15 minutes before ordering drinks. By that time we were also ready to order our food. Was told she would get our drinks first. Ok. After ordering and waiting 40 minutes for our pizza, we finally asked how much longer. She said they just got slammed with to go orders and it would be 20 more minutes. We've already invested an hour waiting, what's another 20 minutes. If we leave, we'd have to wait somewhere else. To be fair, a Luther home game JUST finished and the Iowa game was starting. I would be willing to try it again.
