I hosted an event with Scarab Creative Arts last year, which is where I met Hannah, of Rose ceramics. She's teaches pottery classes here and she's also an amazing artist herself. I signed up for the six-week intermediate classes from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. The cost is $275 and includes everything; clay, supplies, and all firings. All you need to bring is an apron and an open mind. The class style here is free from; just get your clay and go. Hannah walks around and checks in on your progress and helps with anything you need. If you've never sat in front of pottery wheel, I highly recommend taking the beginner class for more of teacher/student model set up. There are other classes offered here beyond pottery like painting, stained glass artistry, and even a few classes for kids. They do host events from time to time in their gallery and have a gift shop where you can try to sell your pieces. I'm excited to see what the future has in store for me when it comes to my pottery. I might just end up becoming a member here!

I booked a Rug Turfing session the night before and had no issues. We arrived about 5mins before our 10am booked session. We were greeted by the sweetest owner, Songul. She gave us a run down. She had stencils but free hand is more than welcome. My friend and I had inspiration photo and we both drew out our inspired pieces. Songul provided us with tips/tricks and was so helpful and patient. She provided complementary snacks/ drinks and invited us to play our music if we wanted. The turfing session was 3hrs and we were literally there the whole 3 hrs. The turfing can be a bit intimidating but once you get going it gets easier and it's so relaxing and so fun! There were so many different yarn colors to choose from! This business also offers other workshops such as: Mosaic lamp, candles, tiny world and pressed candles. Deposit is recommended for booking. All materials are included in price which is reasonable. I highly recommend this place! If you're looking for girls day, date night or just something fun to do, this is it! I had so much fun and I bumped into one of the artists who I have known forever since her painting was on display. I was happy to see that there was new art work on display. I think I need to research about more places that are open for art hop but I really enjoyed this studio. I think there is all different types of art for different people. I really enjoy going to Rina Gonzales Create Studio which has a bunch of different cards in both English and Spanish.

What a lovely redo of an old, unused building in downtown Fresno. This corner building has so much…read morepotential as an art gallery. It is a wonderful place to view large pieces of art and is handy for artists to rent space both to work and to exhibit. Because I love to walk around downtown, I have no problem with parking blocks away and walking, but there is street parking close by. As of now, the building is only open to the public on Art Hop Thursdays and Saturdays.

Sorensen Art Studio sits at the very fringe of Fresno, at the very end of Van Ness, up against the…read morerailroad tracks. Once a large warehouse operation, the building has been cut up into various spaces for artists of all kinds. And just as the building sits on the fringe, some of the art is on the fringe, too. You can find traditional watercolors and mosaics. You can view fabric artists at work. You can see photography of all stripes. And meet the photographers and hear their stories of various photos. For a long while, Sorensens has been opened to the public only on Art Hop First Thursdays, and that's not too bad during the late spring, summer, early fall months, when it's still pretty light out there next to the railroad tracks, on roads that have no stoplights, among many other large, perhaps abandoned buildings. There is just a frisson of danger. But that has changed. Chris Sorensen has turned the building and grounds over to a new manager who is going to have the place open every week, Thursday through Saturday, daylight hours--10 to 3. Meet the artists, experience their workspace, see their art, and best of all, buy a piece of local artwork. Fresno has a great community of artists. Let's support them.
