With a studio space right on Fulton, it can be easy to miss when walking by. However, once inside, it's a very roomy space! The decor is super cute, there's tons of plants, and the artwork for sale is all handmade (I didn't get pictures of all of it). I even got a sticker for stopping by. Christine also has yoga classes on certain days with payment options that best suit your budget (and I think there's a monthly option as well). There are a few chairs and a couch for lounging, and the staff member that I talked to was super sweet! Definitely a great hangout area or even just for a quick stop by to check everything out!

I've never even taken an art class, but Linda assured me that as long as I had a love of art and patience, I could learn to paint. I'm currently on my seventh painting and enjoying the process tremendously. I highly recommend taking a class with Linda McCoy. Linda also paints the most stunningly beautiful pet portraits I've ever seen. She's a gifted teacher and talented artist.

did not expect to be as into this as I am but Good Dirt Pottery Studio has become my favorite thing…read moreI've discovered this year. went with a friend on a whim for a wheel throwing class and we were both completely hooked by the end of it. the instructor was patient and encouraging without making you feel like you were being babysat. there's something genuinely meditative about having your hands in clay for two hours and walking away with something you actually made. the studio itself is beautiful. bright, clean, thoughtfully designed. it photographs really well but it also just feels good to be in, which matters when you're trying to be creative. they do classes, open studio time, summer camps for kids, memberships if you want to go regularly. the options make it accessible whether you want to try it once or actually commit to learning the craft. Bullard Ave location is easy, parking is fine, and the staff is genuinely warm every time I've been in. Fresno honestly needed a place like this. somewhere to go that isn't a restaurant or a bar, that's actually good for your brain, and that you leave feeling proud of yourself. Good Dirt is that place. already signed up to go back.

They offer both ceramic painting and pottery-making classes, and I'd love to return to try a pottery class. The only downside is that classes aren't on weekends and are held on weekday evenings for a few hours, which can be a bit hard to fit into our schedule. They had a nice variety of pieces to choose from. There's a $10 studio fee per painter plus the cost of the item. You pay for your piece first, then select colors and follow their painting instructions. My husband joined me and my son he didn't paint so was not charged a fee. The studio is about a 25-30 minute drive from Clovis, so it was a bit of a drive, but worth it for a fun, different activity together. I didn't realize beforehand that painted ceramics typically take about six weeks to be ready, though it makes sense since they also fire pottery and may have limited kiln space. Ours were actually ready in about three weeks, which was a great turnaround. Pickup was easy--they quickly located our items on a rack using the name slip attached. They didn't have the items wrapped either. One small thing I wish I had known is that they write your name and the date on the bottom of the finished piece. The ceramic I painted was a gift for my son, so I would have preferred not to have my name on it. If I had known, I would have asked about other options. Overall, the staff member who helped us choose our piece and paint colors was very friendly and helpful, making our first visit enjoyable. We'll definitely be back--especially to try one of their pottery classes!

I hosted an event with Scarab Creative Arts last year, which is where I met Hannah, of Rose ceramics. She's teaches pottery classes here and she's also an amazing artist herself. I signed up for the six-week intermediate classes from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. The cost is $275 and includes everything; clay, supplies, and all firings. All you need to bring is an apron and an open mind. The class style here is free from; just get your clay and go. Hannah walks around and checks in on your progress and helps with anything you need. If you've never sat in front of pottery wheel, I highly recommend taking the beginner class for more of teacher/student model set up. There are other classes offered here beyond pottery like painting, stained glass artistry, and even a few classes for kids. They do host events from time to time in their gallery and have a gift shop where you can try to sell your pieces. I'm excited to see what the future has in store for me when it comes to my pottery. I might just end up becoming a member here!

Local artist from Madera, MIchael Garcia, whose art pieces in the early 2,000's were influenced by…read morehis stay in Japan, is now showing his latest body of work at 1821 Gallery & Studios from January 4, 2018 though February 10, 2018. I have two of his earlier art work painted on recycled wooden grape drying trays to make raisins which is not only a cool way to recycle, but also using local materials that make direct connection to the environment surrounding the artist where he lives, thinks, breathes. Famous Japanese author, Mishima Yukio, is depicted in a series of portrait head images where each following image slowly progressively fades away. The second is a golden wash looking a lot like a Rothko color field. It's very Zen-like in creating a contemplative, nonexistential mood. They have numerous rooms that are rented out as studios to individual artists, and a few rooms that simply showcase the owners' collection and favorites. The main room has one featured gallery for a season. Each room was filled with interesting, beautiful, quirky art that I wouldn't hesitate to buy and hang in my house (in the future... when I have a house...). Even though this gallery is slightly tucked away on a side street and easy to miss, it would be worth your while to come check them out on your own time, or at least during ArtHop (you might get a chance to get a delicious frozen treat from Donna at Ooh De Lolli too!). I would be happy to have an event with them in the future, and I wish them all the best in keeping this beautiful location alive and well Downtown.
