We asked 3 different people, everybody said "Let me check, let me check." No response was given to us, and several people who ordered after us got their food and finished whilst we were still waiting for our dosas. So I have been to many Indian restaurants outside of Jacksonville. I've always been disappointed about how the Indian restaurants here are not very good. Finally, there is an awesome Indian restaurant. I have had the chili chicken, chicken korma, pepper chicken, lemon rice. It is all awesome. I forgot my keys at the restaurant, and the restaurant owner answered the phone very late at night, at home, and helped me get my keys later. That really doesn't relate to how good the restaurant is, but he is very nice, the food is great. At one point, three people came up to our table to help us order. They were all very talkative and social. I really like how social they are here compared to other Indian restaurants. And it's just so awesome, that their food matches the personalities. I think I will stop going to all the other Indian restaurants, now that I found this one. read more

Amazing food! I've been looking for a good Indian place for a long time. I finally found one that's on point! Their menu is quite extensive, overwhelming for this foodie. Luckily we went to the lunch buffet ($10 Monday - Tuesday & $12 Friday -Saturday) and I got to try a whole bunch of yummy food like goat curry, chicken tikka, paneer masala, tandoori chicken, biryanis, and other goodies. I have been to Maa Kitchen several times now for lunch and dinner and take out. Every time it is delicious!! I love the lunch buffet because it is always changing, and I have the opportunity to try new dishes I may never have had before. The food is always fresh and hot, and they have speciality items highlighted in the center of the dining area. These items may not always be in their menu. Service is always wonderful and I'm always greeted with a smile and warm hello. The mobile app makes ordering takeout or delivery a breeze! The navaratna korma was incredibly good, goat curry also good, generous portions and good drinks. They have good specials for happy hour drinks if you get the well liquor or Miller light or bud light. First time eating here. Was recommended by an Indian Doctor in the area. First, concerning the aesthetics of the building, it is a beautiful place. It is very open and airy and there's a lot of space to spread around. Is very clean and tidy. Second, concerning the food, there are a lot of options. And the food is very tasty. As a South Indian from the northeast, I can say this is as authentic as it gets. The food is excellent and probably one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to. I had the pakodi, lamb biriyani (they nailed it), and rava dosa for the kids. We will definitely be back when in the area. read more

Customer service is a 0 star. I received a $25.00 gift card from my family to eat at this establishment. When I presented this card to the restaurant I was told twice that it would not be accepted. The first time I was told I could not use it was at lunch and that I could only use it at dinner. At dinner, I was told that the certificate is no good because of new ownership. But please read on for why I am rating them 2 stars (experience/service and take out) I have been dining out/taking out from here over the last two years and not once can I say the service was average, let alone good/great/exceptional. The employees don't seem very happy to be working here nor do they have a decent idea on when to stop by the table to check in. If you aren't looking for the experience/service, check out the recommended dishes below, because the staff won't be helpful in recommending options. One of the most recent experiences, which is the main reason that I finally decided to write a review, we ordered a dish and requested that they do not use onions in cooking/garnishing as someone from our party was allergic. Upon bringing the dish out, it was garnished with onions. We asked to have the dish remade. Within 5 minutes the server was back with the dish. I asked if he simply removed the onions rather than remaking the item. He said "Yes we had another table order the same item." There were only two other tables nearby (one had already had their food and were getting ready to leave, while the other had ordered and I remembered hearing what they got, it certainly wasn't an item without onions). We let it go and started eating the food only to discover a missed onion. Come on, if you're going to lie about it, at least take it back there and don't send it back to the table for a good 10/15 minutes. Now, if you are planning to order take out, this part is important. Every single time (no exaggerations here) that I have ordered online or over the phone for take out, they don't start preparing the food until I get there. Now consider this, you place an order at 7pm and your told it takes 30-45 minutes for it to be prepared, so you get there somewhere between 7:30-7:45pm. When you get there, you end up waiting another 30-45 minutes. So the food you were expecting to pick up at 7:30/45 doesn't get ready until 8/8:15. Now it was my own mistake to keep ordering after experiencing this over and over again so we'll say that doesn't count. Again, like I mentioned initially, the food here is probably the best in Jax, but one last note, is the food is 2 out of 3 times great and the other 1 time, it is inconsistent with what I'm expecting. Good chances there. So much improvement over the last year. Maa has finally hired some actual wait staff. There's still some work needed expediting the kitchen and getting the food out on time. I'm not really sure why the rice always comes out 20 minutes later than the rest of the food. If this place hired an experienced manager to accompany its improved waitstaff I think they'd see a lot more customers. Once you get it, the food is wonderful. Knowing this was previously a Woody's Barbecue made the environment seem a bit odd but overall I found this to be a good Indian Buffet. I live around the block and drive past the sign in this shopping complex everyday and noticed the new sign. Maa Kitchen stands out from the other Indian restaurants in Jacksonville in more ways than one. The majority of Jacksonville's Indian restaurants are nestled in a small corner off Baymeadows and Southside, where you'll be stuck with having to make the decision of which one to go to, and which one is better; whereas Maa Kitchen is slightly off the beaten path. I don't have much experience with Indian food aside from their curry so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect when I went in. I was greeted at the door by the owner and was seated by our waiter(s). I was expecting to receive a menu where I could try to read hard-to-pronounce food names but was told that it was buffet style. "Oh awesome" I thought, it would be a great opportunity to try various Indian dishes all at once. The buffet spread was very generous with a lot of variety to choose from, including vegetarian versions of the same dishes normally made with meat. My only gripe with the buffet, especially one with food you're not accustomed to is: "What is this? How do I eat this? What do I eat it with?" I'm not sure how it could be implemented, but I think some sort of menu would be great to explain some of the foods, especially for those who are trying Indian food for the first time (like me). It is a little overwhelming. The food itself was very delicious and with a great variety of food, there's plenty to try and like. The vegetarian biryani wasn't overly dry or overly moist and was full of fragrant spices like bay leaves and cloves. The tandoori chicken was well cooked and fragrant, as was the goat curry and chicken curry. Be forewarned, goat meat is a little gamey and both curry meats still have bones on them, which I'm accustomed to in my culture, but may not be for others. The curry was delicious, with a lot of fresh spices. There were a few dishes that are more of an "acquired taste" but was good nonetheless. The chicken tikka masala was very creamy, I thought the yogurt taste was a little overpowering but my girlfriend enjoyed it. I did think the naan bread was a little on the cold side and would have really enjoyed it more if it was warmer/freshly made. Also, if you're a fan of Dukes (local brew from Bold City Brewery), it's only $1 on draft. Great price for great beer, you can't beat that price anywhere else. I hope the price stays the same in the future. The restaurant itself was furnished and put together very well. High ceilings with exposed beams gave it a very open feel. I would consider the atmosphere modern, and the owner had more current/trending music playing in the background. One thing that made it a little awkward was the staff. The staff was very nice, but since it was a little slow when I came in, they were all standing around observing making eating a new type of food a little uncomfortable. One of the best Indian Restaurant I have visited. We ordered Paneer Makhani, Dal Palak and Veg Korma. All the dishes comes with either Nan (or chapati) or Rice. Food came quickly. Nan were fresh, hot and soft. All dishes very tasty and perfect spice level. The Chef is quite skilled. You can order as per your choice of spice level and they will customize accordingly.
