I've had a lot of Indian food over the years from many different places, as it's one of my favorites. This place does it very well. Everything was fresh and seasoned perfectly. I had high hopes walking into Saffron Indian Cuisine on 7724 West Sand Lake Road, Orlando FL…read more especially arriving right at 11:30 a.m. on a Sunday when the doors opened. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to expectations. My wife chose the buffet, assuming everything would be freshly prepared at opening time. To our surprise, every single item on the buffet line was cold -- from the rice and chicken dishes to the biryani and palak paneer. If a restaurant opens at 11:30, the food should be hot and ready to serve. Cold curries and rice immediately take away from both texture and flavor, and in this case, the dishes tasted flat and lacked the depth of spices you expect from Indian cuisine. Based on this visit, I would recommend skipping the buffet and ordering from the regular menu instead. Buffet selections often feel like the more economical options, and here they were devoid of the bold flavors that make Indian food so memorable. I ordered the chicken biryani from the à la carte menu. It was noticeably better -- aromatic and more flavorful than the buffet items. However, it still missed an important element. Traditionally, biryani is prepared by marinating the chicken and cooking it together with the rice so the spices infuse the meat and every bite is cohesive. In this case, while the rice carried some fragrance, the chicken itself was not well marinated and tasted bland on its own. It felt more assembled than thoughtfully cooked together. Another important point is pricing. The dishes are on the expensive side, and at those prices, the flavors and overall quality should be excellent. When you're paying premium prices, you expect depth of seasoning, proper preparation, and attention to detail -- not cold buffet trays or under-marinated meat. Service was the bright spot of the visit. The staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout our meal. Overall, not a terrible experience, but certainly disappointing. With better attention to temperature, flavor development, and consistency, this place could justify its pricing -- but on this visit, it fell short.

It's honestly the only place that comes close to the kind of authentic flavor you find on Oak Tree Road in Edison (which says a LOT if you know, you know ). The flavors taste authentic, the portions are generous, and the quality never disappoints.

The cheese naan is unlike any paneer naan we have tried before--almost like a cheesy quesadilla. They didn't have Aloo Choley listed, but when we asked, the kitchen put together a version with chickpeas and potatoes that turned out delicious. We ordered the Dal Maharani, and while our waitress asked about spice level, it felt like she made the decision for us. We enjoy spice, but even the first bite was hotter than we expected, and we barely ate any of it despite it being otherwise flavorful. Toward the end, our waitress asked us to leave a review... and then stood there waiting. When my husband said we were still chatting, she kept circling back to check, which felt pretty pushy. Later, when we requested to-go boxes, she said "there is no rush" and then disappeared. We had to ask again. Overall, the food is good and the staff is mostly friendly, but the unexpectedly fiery dal and the slightly overzealous service kept this from being a 5-star experience.

We went for the Thali, and it arrived like a feast--beautifully presented with a wide variety of dishes that felt both generous and thoughtfully prepared. The portions are no joke here; it's the kind of meal that keeps you going back for "just one more bite." What's even better is that they're happy to offer additional servings if you're still hungry, which makes the experience feel warm and hospitable rather than transactional. Flavor-wise, the food really shines. Each component of the Thali carries its own personality--rich, aromatic, and rooted in tradition. You can tell the kitchen isn't cutting corners when it comes to spices and authenticity. That said, a few items leaned a bit on the salty side for my taste. It didn't take away from the overall enjoyment, but it was noticeable enough to stand out among otherwise well-balanced dishes. All in all, it's a place that delivers on both quantity and authenticity. If you're craving a hearty South Indian meal that feels close to home-style cooking, Madras Cafe is definitely worth the visit. Come hungry--you'll need the appetite.

I can't speak to the ambiance or service, but the gentleman on the phone was very nice in answering questions and letting me know rice is complimentary with any meals with curries. The onion bhaji (4.5/5) appetizer was very reasonably priced and was nice and crispy with a perfectly spiced chickpea batter. The butter chicken (2.5/5) was a weak point. Although the chicken was of decent quality, the gravy was excessively sweet, and the requested "medium spice" option was just an addition of black pepper. It would rank near the bottom of gravy preparations among Indian restaurants back home in New Jersey. The palak paneer (4/5) was tasty and well-liked. The butter naan (3.5/5) was your standard fluffy naan, but as with all naan, doesn't travel well for take out or delivery as the texture gets a bit chewy. Overall, I wouldn't mind getting a meal from Punjabi Kitchen in the future and would rate it a 3.5 out of 5, but wouldn't order the butter chicken again as the gravy didn't hit the spot with me.

We ordered vegetable pakora, Malai kofta, Andhra fish curry, garlic naan, and ras malai. It was 60 dollars total after taxes, and we were told a 25 minute wait. We gave our payment information through the phone. We took our time driving there, and it was ready when we came. It was packed nicely in two bags. There was a good amount of pakora, but could have been a bit crispier. The flavors were still good. The main dishes were more enjoyable. The kofta balls were big and soft and the sauce was flavorful. It was a bit sweet, but spiced nicely at the requested medium spice level. The fish looked to be mahi, which was tender enough. The sauce was also great and had the right amount of heat. The garlic naan was fluffy and garlicky. We enjoyed it while scooping the delicious curries. The ras malai was a bit spongy, but still wonderful in the sweet milky sauce. Overall, we all enjoyed the food! It seems that the dining area is small and pretty casual. For the price paid, I would have been expecting a bigger andmore grand atmosphere. So I am glad we ate at home instead of directly at the restaurant. However the food was very good that this would be a great take out Indian restaurant, especially for tourist staying at the Lake Buena Vista or International Drive area. Overall: A-
