There were so many choices it was the epitome of a kid in a candy store. We shared a slice of Black Forest cake and a glass of champagne. We sat outside to take in the views of the quaint village of Baden-Baden. The Black Forest cake you can get in the United States can't even match getting the real deal. I mean, wow! The cake was decadent and creamy, infused with liqueur, cherries, and whipped cream. It was so good that when it was gone I was scouring the dessert plate for another morsel. The mugs of beer were pretty decent at five euros a glass. The big problem that we had was the service. We were served a salad and one glass of beer. And then we waited for over an hour. We started asking repeatedly what was going on with the food and we're not getting any answers. We saw other people show up 20 minutes after we've come served entire dinners while we were still waiting. At the point we were about to walk out finally the soup in the two main dishes finally arrived. We asked for another beer to help with our meal and again there was a huge delay. The place was not that busy at that point and it took so long to deliver the beer that we were essentially finished with our dinners. They never gave us any water at all and finally serve the beer when we were done. It's still me of the time when we ordered but by the time we finished it was knight in fairly cold and we started getting sick from the whole experience of waiting in the cold for so long.

Plus, it was out of the city center, more of a neighborhood place. As fate would have it, I was on a walk and saw that this place was minutes away. It was early, around 5 PM, and they were just opening for dinner. I strolled the streets until I arrived, and walked in through the back, and straight into their beautiful courtyard. The courtyard was beautiful, several tables all set and ready for the dinner crowd. I walked toward the restaurant and saw the daily special board, but there were no staff, at least outside. I checked out the board and saw they had Pfefferlingcremesuppe, which is one of my favorite foods! A minute later, a woman walked out and greeted me. I told her I knew it was a Friday, but would there be a table for 2 available? She smiled and said I could come now or at 8:30- I chose 8:30 as 5 pm was a little too early to eat. I left and came back at 8:30, the place was buzzing, and the courtyard was packed! My dining partner couldn't make it, so it was just me. The same woman was there to greet me, she smiled when she saw me and brought me to a table in the middle of the courtyard. I was seated and given a menu. I ordered a cold beer and perused the menu. While there were many great things on the menu, I already knew what I wanted, so when she returned, I ordered the soup and the Schnitzel. The soup was delicious and a large serving, and when I finished, my Schnitzel arrived, with fried potatoes and bacon, and a nice salad. Even though I was by myself, I immensely enjoyed the atmosphere; this place is all local, all having a great time, and friends greeting each other.
