And because your gift will also inevitably break at some point you can reuse the idea next year. This is a kitchen ware store mostly. They sell all sort of gadgets as well as the basics, salt and pepper shakers and cutlery. They also sell some gardening stuff and general homeware. You pay a hefty premium for the convenience and location though, so be aware that it might well be much cheaper elsewhere. Sometimes though, when you need that vital bit of kit but can't travel to the north circular to get it, I'm happy to pay the extra.

I like the smell of wood, paint and varnish. I like the really tall shelves. I like the kitchen and bathroom units that are on display - a great setting to play house as a child. In fact, when I was a child I would also race around trying to find that aisle that had the doorbells all set up on a wall, wired and ready to be pressed. They don't seem to have them these days, perhaps because they cottoned on that children such as I could spend many a happy hour pressing all of them while their parents strolled around looking at paint. Happy days. This store is cool, fully stocked and the staff are super-friendly and helpful. They even have a lovely Laura Ashley section upstairs, the stuff is soooo beautiful! I have been here a good few times since moving north of the river, for various home improvement bits 'n' bobs and always been able to pick up what I need.

In it's favour, Amy's is a nice sized store, well laid out. There is inexpensive glassware on offer and a selection of luggage and dog toys (not large). Basically Amy's has a fairly big selection of stuff for the home. You can occasionally spot a bargain like 1/2 price bedding or reduced Pyrex dishes. Not bad.
