I told them it was a 20 yr old system when I booked the appointment so they new it was likely to use R22 refrigerant. They left me with a broken system and misled me into thinking that I had to spend thousands to replace it now. A quick check online revealed that R22 is still available. I hired another company that came out and repaired my system for me. When it does need to be replaced, I will NOT be hiring Sky Heating.

We moved to the area in March, and…read moreknew the house we purchased had a heating & AC system that were original to the house and well past their typical rated lifespans, and likely to die on either the hottest or coldest day of the year. Getting replacements was always on our list of "to do's," and so we called a highly rated HVAC company to get a quote. The guy came out, looked around, and then NEVER provided a quote despite repeated calls and requests. OK ... on to McDowell & Son. M&S came out promptly and provided us with several options and price points. Terry didn't try to sell us the most expensive system, but explained how the various units would work (all 3 would be fine for our house); described some ways to help us keep the house cool (or warm) given that we would only have a one-zone system, and overall provided a professional experience even at the RFQ stage. We scheduled time for an installation. And guess what? A little over a week before installation date, the area is hit with a big heat wave, temps above 100, and yes - the AC died. And it got hot. And hotter. We called to see if we could get bumped up on the schedule, but the equipment wasn't all in place and they had other jobs scheduled, but they were kind enough to bring out a single room AC loaner for us, which at least gave us one room to escape to at night. When installation day(s) arrived, the crew was prompt. We got calls the day before each installation day advising us when the crew would arrive. The team that did the installation was courteous and professional; they kept the work area neat; all the old stuff was removed and debris taken away. There were a few hiccups here and there (a piece of equipment arrived damaged; our crawl space was a little odd) but they managed around those things. The difference the new, modern AC has made is incredible. It does a great job cooling the entire house (before the upstairs was always problematic); it's quieter; it has so many scheduling options for flexibility. Again, though, the equipment isn't what made the experience memorable - it was the great service from McDowell and Son. I'm confident that if there is a time for any warranty service, we'll get the same great treatment.

Grace came in as the lowest bid, but that is only partly why we went with them. Their communication was excellent. Isaac did a great job of helping me understand what we would be buying and how it would work -- how it would be different from what we had, but would be very efficient. They were on schedule installing it and took care to explain everything to us. They are also doing the Oregon energy rebate paperwork. The other bids were not interested in doing that. I think the best review for a business is: "Would you use them again?" The answer is: "Definitely."

They quoted for exact replacement which clearly was not what I asked for. New quote was more than twice as much as original estimate once they found out they were installing an upgraded fan. I wanted two fans installed and only ended up installing one fan for about the same price as the original estimate. Minus one star for the communication issue but otherwise the installation went well and now I have a working fan instead of a hole in the ceiling. I appreciate their flexibility with installing a fan they didn't sell me which saved me money in the long run.

They didn't charge for the service call and had an estimator, Omar, out here the same day. He laid out all the options and we chose our new HVAC. They scheduled our install for the following week, which is unheard of in this post-pandemic world. Randolph and Bryan showed up on time and were quick in their work. They completed the install and clean up by early afternoon and took measurements for a new custom door to cover the HVAC system. Today Andrey came to install the custom door. He was also quick, efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. In fact, everyone involved from start to finish was top notch. The entire process only took three weeks, as compared to five months to replace a broken garage door in 2021 and a year to replace our kitchen in 2022. We already trusted Air Stars because we had them install Mitsubishi ductless units 18 months ago in our granny unit (to replace baseboard and wall heaters and to add A/C).
