this is the worst place I have ever lived. The elevator. Didn't work for over four months and there was puke in the elevator. Left there for over three days. The people who do run checks are ridiculous and housing is a pain in the butt not to mention the front desk workers don't do anything correct and tell you to go grab your package at 5 PM from the mail room, but then keep it behind the front desk for over two weeks. read more

This place has been the biggest waste of time and money. The main issue being we had bed bugs TWICE and they didn't do anything and brushed us off. The front desks workers are rude and don't do anything and the management sucks but apparently they are switching over?? So that could be good. The package system is a mess, our ac was broken twice and we had to sit through a heatwave with no ac. When I went to retrieve my package from the office I overheard a phone call where a parent who had a student living here in the fall called. The front desk workers were rude and got into a verbal altercation with the parent. Instead of trying to answer her question they brushed her off and laughed at her. My daughter leases at M@College. We have visited multiple times and have always found the complex safe, clean and the staff well organized and helpful. The leasing experience was good and the move in experience went very smooth. The online portal is easy to use to make payments, complete paperwork, or contact the office. I was extremely excited when I first came here. The entire unit is great, especially for a college student. However, upon walking in for the first time, it was filthy to the point where my socks and feet would turn black when walking on the wood. There was a horrible sticky stain that I complained about twice, yet they never fixed it. The walls are so thin, I can hear the conversations my neighbors are having. Not only that, but my neighbors are so loud that I have had to file noise complaints 5 times, yet they were never punished nor told to quiet down when I called. The CA's don't do anything when you ask, and they also know barely any information. I asked how much it would be to replace a FOB yet they couldn't even tell me that. The main doors are broken at least once a week and left open making it unsafe for those living on the 1st and 2nd floor of the building. The front desk is great, however, and they've helped me with what I need to get done. But unfortunately, there's no 24/7 front desk so if you need help past 5 pm, you're out of luck. And if you require help on a Sunday, they aren't working at all the entire day which doesn't make sense for a college apartment building. I would love to leave this place for next year, but I couldn't find anywhere else so I had to stay. The distance from campus and the room itself is definitely great, but if you choose to come here, make sure you never return from home on a Sunday or after 5 pm just in case you need help. Also, if you have roommate problems, don't even bother contacting them as they won't help at all. read more

I have to address the "review" before mine, Cheryl. First, there are plenty of 1 star reviews BEFORE the pandemic. I actually wanted to write a 1 star review when I got back from a last minute trip to San Diego to deal with thier "management" but decided I would let it go. Well with this happening, I absolutely am writing a review. And Cheryl please check, I write 5 star reviews. Your review is very easy to counter, you are comparing your apartment to student housing. Apples and oranges. It doesn't matter if it's "privately owned" the words out of thier managers mouth were: they are affiliated with the school and have to meet certain criteria to keep that affiliation. But apparently only when it suits them! At M @ College students can not have alcohol in thier apartment unless they are 21, they have "room checks," you can't put tacks in your walls, and you are denied your transcripts if you don't pay rent! If you don't pay your rent at your apartment Cheryl are you denied whatever is equivalent to a transcript for you? I think not. M is associated, affiliated, whatever you want to call the relationship. This is unprecedented and they should do the right thing like so many other corporations, small and large businesses, utility companies, mortgage companies, and so on. I also want to share with you that I started doing some research on Capstone who owns M, they aren't as great as you think. Ask the community of Eugene Oregon what happened in thier city and the mess they are dealing with. I hope someday you are not stuck in a situation where a corporation has every ability to help you and chooses not to. And for the record my daughter is safely at home and this is not a matter of money for my family. For us it's about the SDSU family and the even bigger global community, we should all be doing the right thing. Shame on you and Capstone! You're right Cheryl it is a business and I'm informing all the incoming parents I can about how Capstone conducts business in a time of crisis. Always pay attention to how people, companies, employers treat you in times like this, do they really deserve your business? I prefer to do business with moral companies as much as possible. Most of the things being said below are true: M@college does align itself with SDSU and sell that; they do have the right to deny you transcripts / registration; they do have residential advisors; they are on campus; they do have the same rules regarding alcohol; the gym and other amenities are closed; they do want us out by 4/1 if we choose not to stay and the office is mostly shut down. Seems like they are with the University unless it doesn't suit them. Sarah might be nice and the office workers are simply doing what they are told. I get it. Give them a break. But the ownership has put the staff in between us and them. I think that is cowardly to do. The management team might want to go find work elsewhere. Maybe the owners will treat them poorly if things get rough. Something to consider as it's a free market and offering your talent is a business too. I have to admit though that I find it very interesting "residents" are coming here giving five-star reviews. If someone is happy and is a lessee why are they just now coming here? Furthermore, these people just lost around $4K maybe compared to their friends in other "on campus" housing. But they are happy to praise the business effectively drawing others to potentially be subjected to the same treatment should things again get rough? Really? Again - the staff is nice and are just doing what they are told. Call SDSU or the owners instead. But I cannot in good conscious recommend this business. Perhaps you should detail the plan Captstone / M@College put in place to defray costs to students electing or needing to return home to their families and how that compares to what SDSU implemented. I think the readers would like to hear that. What we received was one month off the four months owed while SDSU absolved all their tenants of all amounts owed. I would like to ask - Is Capstone / M@College seeking government stimulus under the Payroll Protection Program or Economic Injury Disaster Loan program? Recommend M@College for anyone who is looking for a great place to live that is close to campus. The building has nice amenities including study spaces, courtyard with fireplace and spa and a small fitness room. My daughters unit is spacious and modern. All the units received sanitizing solution (which can be refilled at the front desk for free at any time) which I thought was a nice touch during covid. The complex is very clean and seems safe. They have a great online portal that makes it really easy to review lease terms and set up rent payment. Shout out to all the great staff, including Sudha! read more

So here we are in a pandemic. SDSU has shut down and will be giving refunds to all those living in University Housing. Montage is affiliated with SDSU, even offering some apartment slots to SDSU students through SDSU. Montage makes you get a form signed off from SDSU so you can live there, and mentions SDSU in their lease. Guess what Montage? You are part of the SDSU housing system whether you admit it or not. Students want the same refund that SDSU is offering. You benefit from SDSU, now is not the time to claim you have nothing to do with SDSU. Shame on your greedy corporate tactics. This isn't the end. You need to step up and provide students with options or you will end up being on the news. read more

Terrible place to live. There were 6 outages this last year and during finals week. Management did nothing!! The lease you are forced to sign has the management at no fault for anything, they are well protected from being a decent landlord. I would give no stars for them. First, I need to address the incredible customer service from Sarah and the entire staff at M@College. Always there when I need them and always helpful. Last August when my daughter moved in I told her it would be many years before she would again live in an apartment as nice as this one. She has 3 friends for roommates and I am confident they will be friends forever. When the coronavirus hit, M@College was great with nearly daily updates on what the staff and cleaning teams were doing to mitigate the spread of the virus. Kudos. And then management is offering a discount through the end of the year as well as free parking. They did not have to do this and 99.9% of landlords are not offering any type of assistance. My daughter is at home but is anxious to return to San Diego and hopefully rejoin her roommates for the balance of the semester. They truly care about their future residents, three of which are my triplets, and have been very responsive guiding us through what could otherwise be tough for someone with three college students. pretty sure everything here is for show since my walls could only be out of paper machae to block out such little sound. worst part is I cant even leave since they towed my car just so the front desk lady could laugh at me when I told her my car disappeared. Anyways pretty cool place cause instead of a pool and jacuzzi they had the ingenious idea to just make them into one magestic medium size old bath water tempertured excuse for bad time managment. On the bright side me and my roomate have gotten really close considering we live in a double the size of a shoe box. My double last year might have not had a kitchen but honestly could fit the kitchen and the double they gave me at montage into my zura hall dorm room. thank god im only paying double! Would definitely recommend M@College for SDSU students looking for a clean, safe, modern living situation that is steps to campus. The staff has always been friendly and responsive since day 1 (we worked with Sydney, who was fantastic). Additionally, the manager, Sarah, went out of her way on her day off, when the management office was closed, to assist my daughter from afar after she was locked out of her apartment. These apartments are a good alternative to some of the current dorm situations, which would have had my student staying at home during the pandemic indefinitely. As an out of state family, M@College has given all of us peace of mind for our student's living situation. read more

If I could give a 0 star rating I would. I actually don't even know how to start this review. But I suppose I will start with the obvious, I signed my lease for this "luxury apartment" before the building had even started being built. They assured us that move in would be by the 18th of August, therefore most of us had arranged travel plans around that date. However, at the last minute they informed us that we could not move in until 25th, and therefore most everyone was scrambling. They shoved the tenants in hotels around San Diego State with all their stuff to move into the apartment it was a full on disaster. Flash forward to actually moving into our "luxury apartment", their was paint on the floors, painting tape still on the walls, nothing seemed to be ready for move in AT ALL. The pool they had advertised so efficiently was actually a hot tub, that they deemed a "Spool" and it only works about a quarter of the time. What a joke. The walls are paper thin, you can hear a low volume conversation from down the hall. OH! And for everyone moving out of a dorm, and wanting a nice taste of freedom, THINK AGAIN. The "community advisors" live up your ass I have been written up living in montage 3 times that a 300% increase from living in the freshman dorms! No music, and definitely no more than 5 people in your apartment at any given time unless you wanna get written up! The CA's came into my apartment threw away my wine glasses, shot glasses, all of which were personal property!! Now lets talk rent. 1400 for a single in Montage. FOURTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS. I don't even think I need to go into detail about this. The staff at montage is close to the worst customer service I have EVER experienced. Sara is a straight idiot. My car got hit in their parking garage and me and my Dad called not once, but twice asking to look at footage about who hit my car on THEIR property. No response. In addition my roommates bike got stolen out of their storage lockers, nothing was resolved about that either. But don't worry guys!! They did look on the cameras to turn me in for dropping a bottle in the parking garage and are now fining me for it, and making me meet with the school. This apartment complex, is a scam, and honestly if San Diego State didn't require students to live on campus for two years it would sink. If you have the chance to choose on campus housing I suggest choosing anywhere but here! Save yourself some misery. July 31st could not have come soon enough. Sweet freedom. read more

Honestly the whole thing has kind of been a disaster. Enjoy this list of things that are wrong.... 1) there is no guest parking 2) there is no way for anyone to pick you up because they have to stop on a busy street 3) we moved in late because they didn't finish the building on time 4) so much was wrong with the actual apartment: the fridge wasn't plugged in, our doors didn't have handles, the front doors didn't lock, our dishwasher wasn't plugged in right so it leaked, the water pressure was barely a sprinkle 5) we believe that we were promised a full sized pool, a tv, and ceiling fans 6) they still dont know how they are going to be doing the electricity, we got a bill in september for two weeks of electricity that equaled $300 and we have only gotten one other bill since and we've been here for 4 month. 7) also the customer service and the front desk is very unknowledgeable That and many more things are super annoying and unfortunate about Montage. I would say that a lot of this was because we were the first people to live here but also its kind of ridiculous that we had to and continue to put up with a lot. Thank you, next read more

My daughter moved into the new building this fall and it's a beautiful new facility! 100% improvement on her dorm accommodation last year! Beautiful 3 bedroom apartment, furnished with a lovely kitchen and washer/dryer. The communal areas are modern and provide for an amazing SoCal lifestyle with a spa, firepits, outdoor bbq facility etc. The Montage management team have been supportive and very communicative. I know my daughter is safe and comfortable and I couldn't be happier! read more

This is my second year living here at M@College and my experience has only gotten better. The apartments are clean and modern. If we have ever had an issue, putting in a maintenance request is easy and fulfilled within a couple of days max. The office staff is always friendly and willing to find an answer to any question or concern we may have. I love being able to walk to class but also enjoy the fact the my apartment is significantly nicer than the dorms. This is a great second year living option and highly recommend looking into it! read more

M at college, formally known as Montage, is click bait. The pictures look nice and modern but little do you know nothing works. The worst of all was the illusion of walls, you think there are walls but you can hear your roommate down the hall in another room chew gum. Not to mention the ridiculous price for what you get, the poor quality staff, and the fact at any chance they get they will squeeze every penny they can out of you. The building was built so fast because it was promised to be this amazing place for everyone that signed up a year ahead of time that everything was built poorly and M @ college needs to make it up by overcharging tenants. Hopefully you don't get a inside dorm and the jacuzzi actually works. If it wasn't for the student staff being very nice and activities provided in dorm, I would give this place a zero if I could. read more

During this awful tragic epidemic that our nation is going through, the management company that runs this housing complex for SDSU students is not complying with recommendations that Governor Newsom has recommended. They have closed the amenities yet they are demanding the students are responsible for the second semester even though the school is closed for the year. The University has refunded parents and students for the properties that they own. Disgusting behavior all in the name of greed! read more

Literally the worst apartment complex ever. I lived here over the past year. You get utility overages every month even though they say they provide "more than enough". Our AC broke in Dec and it took them until a week ago to fix it. The workers are rude and give you attitude. The walls are paper thin. I know there aren't many SDSU living options but know that when you sign a lease here it's gonna be terrible and they're gonna take all the money out of your pockets any way they can. They also stopped the trash chute three weeks prior to move out so they made everyone drag their trash through the parking lots, up a ramp and made you throw it into a huge bin outside. Everything is overpriced and it's not worth it at all. So glad to be getting out of this s**thole. read more

I am a student who lives at M @ College. Reading through the reviews one caught my eye and that one was Cheryls. The amenities are in fact closed, I was in the community area when they kicked people out of the gym because they are closing it, all the study rooms are locked, and even the door to the courtyard to get some fresh air is locked. The things they are keeping open are the mailroom and they stated a dog park but I have never seen a dog park there. Everyone understands that this is business but look at what all the other businesses are doing. The management here is absolutely unapproachable and they never hear me out, they always respond with the exact same answer that they can't do anything. I have had a problem with montage since the first month I moved in so yes I would say 7 months ago I had some bad thing to say Cheryl. Their website specifically says it is apart of the Sophomore Success Program at SDSU and is only for SDSU students rather than an apartment that is open to anyone and most likely where they will be living for years when this is where only students live for around a year. Montage, Capstone, and SDSU should realize how many people this is affecting and especially during a time of a pandemic. read more

I understand the frustration for some students and parents because we aren't getting a full refund back for the lease agreement BUT this is a business, this is a legally binding contract. We are lucky to get any credit back! I'm a parent of a student and we live in an apartment community as well. Our management/ownership isn't give us anything because we're getting less hours at work, losing our jobs, etc. And by the way, the amenities are NOT closed. I have contacted the office and they are informing me they're still open with instructions on how to sanitize the area before using it. They've put protocall into place just like anywhere else. Also, the dorms KICKED the students out! That's why they got refunds. M@College is STILL OPEN, again, just like any other apartment community. It doesn't matter if they're "affiliated" that just means they're approved housing. Oh well, you chose to live there INDEPENDENTLY! I'm sorry, but these people are just doing their job. Find a relet, get released. M@College is a great place to live. Remember, people only typically put up reviews when they're frustrated or mad. Everyone in the leasing office is not on the same page as far as information about the building, we were told one price by one associate and a completely different price by another, along with this they lost our application so we had to fill out another one and there were a number of typos in the leasing agreement as well as lots of questions that they could not answer. Do not recommend and my roommates and I decided on another apartment complex that is way nicer and way more affordable read more

I've been extremely impressed by the montage staff's professionalism, integrity, and friendliness. We were warmly greeted upon entrance to the office and were given lots of information in regards to the new apartment complex and what it will entail. I had no issues with my roommate's and my applications and everything went very smoothly.
