He went over colors of paints and we chose what we wanted. His costs included the materials and the job. MCarlson came to my house with a simple ask: get the dated blond oak outta my kitchen. They delivered better than I could have expected. I get compliments every time someone enters my house. Not only did they remove and resurfaced my cabinets at their facility, they also: provided a designer, offered and installed back splash option, painted main floor, painted upstairs, fixed hardware, fixed cabinet hinges, and offered a few other services I didn't even consider....all under budget. My light "de-oaking" was 1/10th some of my neighbors kitchen remodels, and I think looks just as good. I have a few other projects I will definitely use them for in the future! Three words: Don't hire them. All in all the painters did a good job painting our house. Had I known that they sub-contracted a different company to do the work, I would have just called that company and left Matt Carlson out of the mix. From the start - they said it would take a week. 4 weeks have gone by and my house is just being finished. They said they could color match the paint, but it might be slightly different. The color was completely wrong and when we told them, they didn't offer any fixes, just said, they told us it might be different. It was a completely different color yellow. I went out and bought the correct paint, the color that I had told them was the correct color and gave it to the painters, who then re-did the work they had already done. The painters did not fully clean up after themselves, and also managed to rinse a bunch of paint off into my yard, which didn't dry and then my dog left dark gray footprints all over my house (wood floors, white steps, and white duvet cover). I called the project manager to let them know how angry I was about all this - he sent the painters out to clean up - great. They apologized - great. THEN - the owner, Matt Carlson had the balls to call me and tell me that I was in the wrong for not communicating properly when I said that his project managers were not so good at communicating on this job. He argued with me, the customer. I must just be a stupid woman, who knows nothing and needs to be mansplained to a million times about the damn color matching. I told him to send me the bill and that I would never hire them again for anything. He said that was fine by him. So, if you want a relatively good priced job, but bad customer service, call M. Carlson Painting. read more

The entire process was terrific. Matt was very responsive and prompt in providing the estimate. Once we decided to move forward, his manager called within a day to schedule the project. And the painting crew was amazing. They painted our 1,800 square foot townhouse with high ceilings (minus a bathroom and 1 bedroom) in only two days! In addition, they moved much of the furniture for us and taped and spread plastic throughout the house. As a result, they were exceptionally clean and the house was put back together when they were done. The paint job itself was virtually flawless. Though the price was more expensive than an estimate I received from another painter, M Carlson finished the job in two days rather than the 3 weeks estimated by the single-person painter. The value for the price was well worth it. I would definitely recommend and use M Carlson Painting again! read more

Do not hire this company. I had two rooms painted in my house which they did a fine job on, except for paint on the trim work that they didnt clean up. The problem came in the enamel work. I had paint on the windows that had chipped from condensation. The project manager first off didnt even know he was suppose to do that part of the work even though it was on the work order and bid. When they did do it, instead of sanding the remaining paint off to get a smooth surface they just painted over the areas that had flaked off so it looks terrible. I emailed Matt and the project manager and sent pictures of the enamel and paint on trim work. Matt offered to come back and fix the problem. I asked him to come and clean up the paint on the trim but I did not want them to do anything with the enamel since it was so poorly done the first time, I would hire someone else to sand and start over on the windows. A week went by and he never came to clean up the paint, instead I just got a bill in the mail. I emailed back stating that I would not pay for the poor enamel job especially since he never came to fix the paint on the trim. He sent a very rude email back stating that isnt the way things work and that his project manager didnt know he was suppose to come back. I sent the chain of emails back to him and he very clearly had sent me an email stating he would have his guys come back to fix the trim work. I also stated that I ran and operated a business so I do understand how this works and let him know he can obviously run his business how he sees fit, but this is not how I would have treated my customers after dropping the ball on so many levels. His next response was even better, it merely said ok BOSS. Great way to treat your customers in a word of mouth business. read more

M Carlson was very professional, had great customer service, answered all my many questions, and the house looks fantastic! After having a really horrible experience and firing another painter, I was referred to M Carlson Painting. I contacted them on a Friday. They gave an estimate on Tuesday. On Thursday, the owner, sales person, project manager, and painter walked through with me to confirm everything that needed to be done and then started the project that same day. The previous painter had removed the popcorn on the ceilings, but had not sanded or patched properly before painting. M Carlson re-scraped/patched and painted the ceilings in the upstairs and on the main floor, painted the walls in the upstairs and on the main floor, and sanded and repainted the doors in the upstairs as the other painter left drip marks/sagging on the doors that she did. Painters completed the project in 9 days (that would be my only complaint is that they went two days over the completion date they gave at the beginning of the project, but I understand things can sometimes take longer than expected). After completing the project, the project manager walked through with me to do all the final touch-ups and confirmed they did a satisfactory job. read more
