We hired Dave Johnson of Imperial Home Improvement to remodel our 1950's rambler from…read moretop-to-bottom, and we couldn't be more thrilled with the results. The project was completed within three months in the fall of 2010, you can see our blog of the entire project at http://fletcherremodel.blogspot.com Dave is sticker for details and was meticulous with the subcontractors he hired. He also allowed us to see every invoice, so we knew what exactly we were paying for. In fact, he stayed within our estimated budget. When we were initially getting bids, other contractors came up with estimates as much as 30% higher than Dave. Literally, the project went just about perfectly, and Dave made a lot of good suggestions and had lots of good ideas. There is only one lightswitch design in our bathroom that I would change, that is it. Everyday when I pull up in our driveway, I think to myself, "I can't believe I get to live here." Dave at Imperial Home Improvement is an honest, hardworking, dependable and affordable contractor I would recommed to anyone, regardless of the size of project.

(I also called 3 of Dave's previous clients as background checks as well before hiring him.) We interviewed several contractors for our remodel of a 1960's kitchen, master bedroom & bath, and main bath, and Dave was the only contractor who looked at the spaces for what they COULD be rather than what they were. It is nerve wracking putting your home in the hands of a stranger, but Dave became anything but a stranger during the process. We texted & emailed & called almost daily, if not more frequently, and I can't say enough about his ability to steer us to make decisions that guided us to spend money where we needed to and skip things that would be a headache in the future. He is one of the most detailed individuals I have ever met, and he caught things I know my husband would have noticed in a couple years and fixed them before we knew about it. We ended up with an amazing kitchen, main bath, and new master suite, with a walk-in closet (that we never imagined!) and amazing bath. All of Dave's subcontractors were professionals and took care of any follow up issues without complaint. As Katie said, you know everything you're going to spend, you see the invoices, and you acknowledge, via email or text or in person purchase, any of your upgrades - we knew what we were spending the entire way. We landed within 2 weeks of our original end date, and some of that was our fault for adding a fireplace into the mix late. We are planning on using Dave / IHI again for a half bath remodel with zero hesitation and I would recommend him to anyone. I never thought we could or would have such a great renovation/contracting experience.

We paid just over $21,000 to Kona Cabinetry for a kitchen project that began January 15, 2026. We…read morewere told the installation would take approximately three days. Instead, the project stretched nearly four months, with major pieces not installed until May 12 and additional finishing concerns remaining after that. Our experience included refrigerator panels that had not initially been ordered, insufficient material, missing and incorrect cabinet doors, doors modified inside our home, repeated hood replacements, shipping delays, missed dates, missing trim and finishing pieces, and a replacement hood that still did not properly match the surrounding cabinetry. The hood alone took four or five attempts to arrive with the correct stain and without water spots or damage. The hood and most of the cabinetry came from KCD. KCD and Kona's owner both confirmed that KCD reimbursed Kona in connection with the hood issue, although we do not know the amount Kona received. Near the end of the project, Kona's owner came to our home, delivered a $2,500 refund tied to the hood, expressed empathy and promised a quick resolution. In our view, returning the amount paid for a hood Kona could not successfully deliver did not represent meaningful financial accountability for the months of delays, ordering errors, field modifications, communication failures and remaining workmanship or finish concerns. Throughout the project, my wife and I repeatedly had to initiate communication, document open items, request dates and follow up when those dates passed. Even after Kona's owner became our primary point of contact, multiple calls were not returned. When we met with Kona's owner, he acknowledged that some cabinet details should not have looked the way they did. However, much of the broader experience was attributed to manufacturers, freight issues, outdated catalogs, discontinued products, a former employee and "normal remodeling complications." We hired and paid Kona - not its manufacturers, carriers or former employees. We expected Kona to manage those relationships and remain accountable for the final product. We finally lost confidence when Kona came out for what was supposed to be the final visit and once again did not have everything needed to finish the project. Additional pieces were still missing, and the hood still did not match after the trim was installed. Accepting more replacement products and more corrective visits no longer felt like a realistic path to the result we had paid for. We then attempted to resolve the experience privately. Kona responded with a settlement agreement requiring us to immediately release all claims involving the project, including warranty and workmanship issues. It also prohibited any reviews, complaints and public statements. Kona's payment would come later, and if Kona failed to pay, all we could pursue is the settlement amount, and our underlying claims would still remain permanently released. We declined because we were not willing to immediately give up every right and then once again trust Kona to perform later. No renovation is perfect, but this went far beyond normal remodeling complications. The most disappointing part was Kona's continued reluctance to take meaningful ownership of the overall experience and final result. Based on our experience, we would not recommend Kona Cabinetry.

In June of 2022 we decided to remodel our kitchen and main living area in our townhome. We…read morecontacted three different companies/contractors. Our project was multi-faceted, with some unusual requests. Of course we had the normal "update the cabinets" piece (Re-door, paint) , but we also had a large solid maple built-in outdated entertainment wall that we wanted modified and painted, plus a two-tiered island we wanted made into one-tier.. We also wanted to add several cabinets to extend from the kitchen into the dining space along the wall. We received the three bids and Kitchen Tune-up of Eden Prairie was the one that most impressed us. Not only was their price very reasonable, but they were incredibly helpful and flexible. There wasn't any request we had that they couldn't fulfill. Angela and Annette (one of the owners) came for the initial consultation. They offered ideas, listened to ours, and made some preliminary measurements and gave us their tile and countertop suppliers' information. A few days later, they sent us their quote and it was very reasonable and included everything we wanted! A few days later, Angela and Annette came to do the measurements. While here, they offered some advice on our initial decisions and we updated our design. While here, they asked us why we chose them. Our response? Their flexibility, ability to accommodate our varied requests, the fact that the owner found us important enough to come, the energy they brought to the job, and their personalized attention to us. We felt from the first meeting that we were more than just another customer. Our remodel began on Labor Day, 2022! Over the next few weeks, Annette, Tim and their team worked tirelessly to transform our 1999 space into a beautiful, updated NEW SPACE! We LOVE IT! They put in long days and even weekends to do it all right. When faced with an unforeseen issue, they solved it and everything came out even better than we had hoped. My wife and I cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed working with everyone from Kitchen Tune-Up - Eden Prairie! I have told friends and neighbors and can't wait to entertain in our new cool space. I highly recommend them if you are looking to update your kitchen or any other space!

We wanted a large island with plenty of working space, and no matter how big your house is everyone ends up in the kitchen! We began our search for a contractor, we received 3 bids and hands down Matt at the Caliber Group was the best! Why? He was honest, he was creative with ideas and brings a designer in to help bring ideas to life. He was not the least expensive but not the highest bid. What absolutely sold me was the island. Due to the size we wanted, he was the only one who said we need to reinforce the floors. I know that sounds crazy, but his attention to detail was very clear to me. We signed his contract and started our dream project. Matt communicated everyday on what was going to happen, or as he calls it "our homework" (what we needed to move or cover). He had the most professional sub contractors I have ever met or worked with, and when you have strangers coming into your home that is very important. Our Dream Kitchen turned out even better than we could possible have imagined. All the details were perfect! The cool floating shelves, the garage doors to hide all the appliances, and THE ISLAND! I would highly recommend Matt and the Caliber Group! Our next project will be our bathroom and I won't even bother looking anywhere else! I have attached a few pictures to see the before and after!
