DINE IN DURING PANDEMIC…read more One way in, one way out, mask/face shield/temp/alcohol hand wash/questionnaire mandatory when walk in. Most patrons and workers wore only masks. Staff are friendly and shout greetings as you enter. They're hardworking, efficient and you can ask any one of them for assistance. You order at the counter then they bring the food to your table. Many menu items are not available, so ask before ordering to prevent disappointment. After ordering we chose to sit at the table furthest away and most isolated from the others. There was a screen and a fan facing away from us: hubby said it was to blow the Covid germs the other direction HAHA! They have a nice, spacious dining area with comfortable seating both inside and outside. We ordered the sausage breakfast. The "toast" was very pale, next time I'll have to tell them "well done". Other than the toast, breakfast here is always a solid choice. Because of the pandemic we rarely go out, so to celebrate we had the Tiramisu Macaron and Affogato for dessert. The ice cream in the Affogato was too sweet for me to eat by itself; but it balanced perfectly when paired with the bitterness of the coffee, not bad. The macaron, on the other hand, was meh. I'm sure it would have tasted much better fresh from the bakery; but the macaron was already stale. I'm sure we'll be back when we're in the area. From what I could see on the plates of others, the food looked great. Once seated, I scanned the menu and was pleased to find both Filipino and Western food. Everything was off to a great start until I noticed a cockroach crawling on the wall as I was eating my dinner. The site of this was a little disturbing, but I just told myself "this is the Philippines, a tropical climate...lots of bugs. So I continued to eat my meal and then I happened to look down at my plate and seen a second roach. However, this time, the cockroach was already dead and had been for a while. My stomach turned and I almost vomited. I immediately pushed my plate away in disgust. My fiancé and her family asked what was wrong and then I showed them. This too made everyone sick. My fiancé then asked to speak to a manager. While waiting for someone to come, a third roach passed by, crawling on the wall. Instead of getting a manager, a different wait staff member came by and began to inquire as to what was wrong. I as a foreigner just kept my mouth shut because I knew that it would be a losing battle to attempt to argue my case. After explaining the entire situation to the server, my fiancé wasn't given any apology. No embarrassment on the staff of this restaurant. It was as if we were made to feel as if we had done something wrong. The server kept stating that if we didn't pay that they (restaurant employees) would be responsible for the bill, which in my opinion has NOTHING to do with me or the party I was with. I know that the standards are a lot different in the Philippines than where I'm from, but I really feel like this place needs to be inspected. This is a matter of public safety. Anyway, I would encourage everyone to avoid this establishment. Maybe if there are no customers then attitudes will change (Not just at this restaurant, but at all business that don't or refuse to maintain high standards). After everything was said and done, we (my party) got up and walked out without paying. Very disappointing experience to say the least.

Pie lady is located toward the back of the Arena plaza, they're open early when most eateries in the area are still closed. They're not busy in the mornings during the week. There's lively jazz music playing, the Hallmark channel on the TV, free WiFi, and a couple of tables outside. Staff is friendly and speaks English. WE'VE TRIED: -Eggs made perfectly, hash browns crispy outside but mushy on the inside -Tocino breakfast comes with 2 pancakes, can request for garlic rice. This was ok. - Pancakes thick and dense, reminds me of the soufflé pancakes I had in Canada: not my cup of tea. I like my pancakes light and fluffy with a slight crispness to the edge. -Bacon burger with fries was ok, hubby liked it more than me. -Chocolate cookie is good: soft and crumbly. They make it in house. -Apple pie ala mode-needed more cinnamon and sugar. Ice cream tasted like it had tons of butter in it bleh! The food & desserts are made fresh in house. They have a strong ac and free WiFi. We would come back to try more things from their menu.

They don't have a web site which is a shame so this is what I remember I saw on the dessert side. Banana raisin, Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal raisin cookies Peach mango, Apple, Chocolate, Cherry, Pecan, Pumpkin pie German Chocolate. Carrot cake and Blueberry cheesecake Brownies I had the German Chocolate cake and it's real good, the only difference to the American styles is the chocolate frosting on the sides, I was picking the crumbs from the plate afterwards. They have a good pasta plates and I can vouch for the Shrimp and Carbonara. They also served buggers and fires, and your typical eggs, bacon, hash browns. or pancakes all with toast, butter, or jam for breakfast.

The inside has simple clean decor, and the background music ranges from Tagalog love songs to Karen Carpenter, and even Tupac. Staff speak English well, there's a strong aircon, and a password protected free WiFi that's fast and pretty strong. There's a small refrigerated case for desserts, and another for their deli meats and cheeses. The kitchen is as big as the dining area and separated by a wall with 2 large tinted windows; you can observe the staff cooking. Food comes out in a reasonable time period. ORDERED FOR BREAKFAST: - 2 eggs - hubby's sunny side eggs weren't quite set, that's why I always order mine over easy. - Sausage looked like it was made in house, decent taste - Longganisa was ok - Hashbrowns were oily and soggy in the middle. I asked for them to be crispy but only the edges were slightly crispy. - Toast was sliced thick and came with butter and jam. Saw another table order sandwiches which looked really good! Met the lovely co-owner who encouraged us to come back for their sandwiches; she told us that they smoke their own meats and bake their own bread. FYI - they sell day old cookies for 50% off UPDATE: Don't go one hour before closing, they run out of certain items and the staff are tired and a little cranky. Went back for dinner (hubby's treat) and we ordered: - Iced coffee sweetened and with cream. It was made with True Ridge coffee from Laguna. It tasted better after I asked for more of their liquid syrup. - Chili - I can't believe that we found good ole fashioned American chili con carne in the Philippines! You can find it listed under "sides". It's meaty, chunky and comes in a small bowl with onions and shredded cheese on top YUMMY! - Smoked Turkey (smoked in house) with everything (comes with Swiss cheese) on wheat bread with French fries (skin on), requested them crispy but they were not very crispy at all. The tasty sandwich was filling with fresh veggies and had a soft bun. Would definitely come back for their sandwiches and Chili con carne. I'm excited to try more things from their menu. TIPs - They have 4 kinds of mustard that you can request to be added to your sandwich: plain, spicy, Dijon, and horseradish. Make friends with the staff!! If there are any flies bothering you, let the staff know and they'll zap them with their electric tennis racket lookin thingy.
