Just fyi they moved to 1351 nuuanu ave- opposite end of nuuanu okazuya next door to the mandoo shop. This location has parking on street and i believe in the back. Cute little hole in the wall is clean and has friendly service. The workers look like they love working there and so you know they take pride in their food so it's gonna taste authentic. The pork adobo is just right as it's not overly vinegary or salty but just right. I discovered them too late in the day so some items were sold out but the pancit and the suman( i know i spelled this one wrong but the rice, coconut dessert one that is brown) were delicious, a perfect accompaniment to the adobo. M&N Filipino Fast Food Restaurant in Kalihi is definitely one the most underrated Filipino Fast Food Restaurants in Hawaii. I just love the Old School feel of this place. Feels like you're at a Karenderia in the Philippines because of the nostalgia here. They have a variety of Filipino Food Selections here and what I love about this place is that their Menu Selections change each and every day. I also love the fact that they have these Amazing treats as well like Empanada's and Sliced Green Mangoes with Alamang and other Filipino Goodies sitting on a tiny table in front of your menu items that you choose from. The service here is always friendly and love the family atmosphere especially when you see the Nana in the restaurant prepping up the veggies. This is my kind of restaurant that makes me feel at home. Their style of cooking reminds me of my Daddy's Cooking. I will say that this isn't your typical Filipino Restaurant. They have a lot of hardcore Filipino Food Dishes that you might find very interesting but that's the beauty of this place. M & N Filipino Restaurant located on North King street this is a very small restaurant next to Tamashiro Market and basically no parking lot everything is street meter parking except there is only one parking space in-front of the restaurant that has no meter. Inside is very small maybe 10 customers seating, it's a Old fashion family restaurant with local home cooking if you are not one that knows Filipino food you will be like me a stick with the normal Lechon Kawali which was very good they informed me it would take 5 mins but it was worth it because it came out hot and crispy, it was not salty and the sauce they had was different but very good! I added some fish sauce with the sauce and it was prefect. My wife tried the other dishes and she really enjoyed the Papaya chicken & Pig feet soup and the Inado she was enjoying it until the bottom sitting in the sauce was a little bit to salty for her. This is the place to go for that authentic Ilocano home cooked food! Beef Lauya, Pinakbet, Fried chicken, torta talong with garlic rice and longonisa are a few of my favorites when coming here. Everything was sarap (delicious ) From when we first arrived we weren't sure if we could all fit due to little space but they made it happen with more space as other customers came to dine in as well. Ordered the pansit bihon(thin noodles) with one fried chicken and one egg roll and one empanada. The fried chicken was moist and tasty. The pansit was good. The egg roll was average. My first time here had high ratings so that's what brought me here.I noticed the selections were few and didn't have what I came here for,chicken papaya.They did have pinapaitan,pork adobo,pinakbet,pancit,sari sari,and deep fried eggplant.I ordered the kamote salad and the pork igado. It wasn't crowded but I did have trouble finding seating because it was dimly lit or my eyes didn't adjust to the low light or the owner thought it provided low profile dining.I located seating by touching rather then seeing.I saw three ladies at different tables prepping foods for the line or catering, but doing it in the dining area and not in the back in the kitchen affected my ratings. The food was tasty. I left with the impression that catering was a top priority rather then having many choices on the buffet line. Parking is limited, there is one spot in front of the restaurant but I think the owners park there.So if you want to eat here have someone drop you off and pick you up after you order takeout or walk or catch the bus. read more

One of the best "Masarap " Filipino food. I heard M&N is old school Filipino restaurant by N. Kung St. Hole in a wall. I tried 3 choices plate. My husband and I were on our way to visit my grandma at the care home for lunch. So we decided to pick up some Filipino food. My husband loves their Igado and Imbaliktad from here. So that's what we always get. Today, we also picked up their pinapaitan and sari sari. All were very good. The way the food is seasoned is similar to how my parents cook theirs as well. So I was very pleased. M&N is located next to Tamashiro. It's a hole in the wall place. It looks sketchy from the outside. But the food is delicious. My grandma is a retired cook at Jesse's and for her to say that this place makes good food too says a lot about it. It is street parking. There is a little area right infront of it where you could park, but it will only fit 2 cars. Otherwise, you'd have to park by the meter parking infront of the Kokua health building. Oh man!! Just looking at the photos on this page is making me hungraaaay! Okay so, for all who don't know, I'm Filipino. I'm also known as "adobo spice" to some of my fellow Yelpers. Why? I don't know. Maybe cause I love adobo?! Haha. Okay moving on..here we go.. Parking: street parking. There is a small one stall parking space right in front of the diner. Two cars can actually fit but there is a fire hydrant. Park at your own risk if you decide to be the second car there. Ambience: more like a mom and pop diner not restaurant. You walk in. Go to the counter to choose your food, then sit wherever you want or order to go. Up kept well and clean. Food: It's served cafeteria style (like other food chains like Panda Express, Golden coin, etc..). Look at the 8+ different selections and choose from 1 to 3 choices with your choice of starch (rice or pancit "noodles"). The menu changes everyday so what you eat today may not be there tomorrow. It could be a pro to some who loves to try new things each time, or con to those who has a specific favorite dish. A few of the dishes include: Pinakbet: vegetables (squash, eggplant, string beans and amplaya) sauteed with pork and bagoong, Pinapaitan: Beef Tripe stew Adobo: slowly cooked pork or chicken marinated in soy vinegar Balatong: mongo beans with pork Sinigang: tamarind soup with fish and vegetables Kare kare: peanut butter soup with oxtail, beef, and vegetables For dessert they have banana lumpia, cascaran (deep fried mochi balls with glazed sugar) and my favorite halo-halo (shaved ice, milk, sugar, cubed sweet potato, cut up bananas and jackfruit, some red beans) topped with ube ice cream. They have decent Filipino food here. The price is a little more on the steep side compared to other Filipino fast food restaurants that I go to. The cascaron is especially good here and the size of each cascaron is bigger than the standard ones elsewhere. Now that I think about it, all of their desserts are good. If you don't want to take a chance on the food, at least come here for the desserts. read more

It's a hole in the wall type of restaurant, but one of a kind food and service. This place has always been the place I go to for real Filipino food. The price is reasonable and the choices are many. You just need to go early because the favorites run out and parking is very very limited. They cook different food on a daily basis so it's best to call and ask them what they have for the day. The ladies that run the place are very pleasant and friendly. It's a family-run restaurant and their mom is the main cook. They talk to you like you're part of their family. I also enjoy the environment. It's small and tight but it's manageable. They do have the TV on the Filipino channel so just be prepared to listen and watch Filipino shows. The staff was super nice to us and pardoned our ignorance and told us (twice) about everything they had on offer. We got a bit of everything and it was all good.
