Oh my goodness, my son and his girlfriend had the SAME scenario as Russell G. moving across country from Idaho to Virginia. I was hesitant to give the details of same day service in an emergency but it happened again! UNHEARD OF to have it fixed in one day! I believe my son said the woman's name was Leanne that fought with the warranty company for them and GOT IT! I thought that we had hospitality here in the south but MOUNT VERNON, ILLINOIS has a GEM!!!! If I could give this company TEN stars I would do it. As a Mom, I was actually crying because I am so grateful to this company of hard working employees which is so rare to find. They would have had to either leave the truck & trailer to come home for work in her car, stay in a hotel or we would have had to drive him back to Illinois then come back again to Virginia. Our 2001 Buick LeSabre with 175,XXX miles began shifting a little hard going from 1st to 2nd and 3rd. It then changed from that issue to being less smooth in the higher gears. A mechanic, whose services I use, said a code indicated that the solenoids were likely to be the problem and "reset" the transmission. He said that the reset may work or the problem could reoccur. The condition returned in a few days. When I described the problem to Mike (M & M transmission), he recognized the code and told me that it would cost $550 to change the solenoids. I made the appointment for Tuesday, May 21st. I arrived at 8:00 AM and Mike was not there. A mechanic employee said Mike would be there at 9:20. I told him that my wife and I would go to breakfast and be back at the appointed time. When I returned, Mike was not there but his wife, Melody, was. I told her that the car had been shifting as if nothing was wrong (in all gears) for the last few days and that I wanted Mike to drive it and call me before proceeding with any work. She agreed to do so. She called me at 3:03 to tell me that they had changed the two solenoids but there was another problem. They think the torque converter needed to be replaced. I told her that no one likes surprises unless it's a birthday party and what would that cost? She said that they did that work for $2600. I said that I wasn't going to do that. She said that she understood and would just charge for the work done. I went there to pick up the car and saw Mike. I asked him if he had driven the car (as I had requested) would he have known the additional problem? He said that his helper had driven it. I said $2600 additional fee was not practical for the older vehicle with high mileage. He said that he understood and I paid $575.43 ($400 was labor). I can't say anything negative about the work that was done but the car is now, again, not shifting into the higher gears smoothly ?? My disappointment is in the way business was conducted. Had I been called per our agreement, I might have chosen not to replace the solenoids. I was not given any options. Mike didn't drive the car and no one called before work was done (as Melody and I had agreed that morning). Without communication, understanding is impossible. I was headed east on highway 64 a couple miles west of Mount Vernon in February when my transmission suddenly failed. I coasted to a stop in the shoulder. I was in the process of moving halfway across the country to start a new job, driving from Missouri to Norfolk VA. I was towing a large trailer with my truck and my two faithful German Shepherds riding shotgun. My wife was following in her car. I could tell by the smell when I got out of the truck that the transmission was done. When I called roadside assistance they recommended M & M for the transmission repair. When I called M & M and explained my situation, the lady I spoke to who was the owner's wife was very sympathetic to my situation and promised they would do their best to get me back on the road as quickly as possible. When you are in a predicament like this, you don't ask about the price. I was happy to find a nearby shop with a good reputation who would give me priority service. The lady (I wish I could remember her name) even recommended a pet friendly motel. The transmission would require a complete rebuild. I contemplated leaving the truck behind and coming back to get it the following week. That wouldn't be necessary because in less than 24 hours M & M had obtained the parts and had me back on the road. The price was very reasonable. Some shops would have taken advantage of the out of state customer who was in a pickle. But not these guys. I was cleaning out my truck this weekend and came across the receipt. It is over 4 months later and the transmission is operating perfectly. It's nice to know there are honest and hard working business people out there. I wish everyone at M & M continued success. Similar to the review from the gentleman who was headed east, I was moving from Colorado to North Carolina at the end of May 2017 when I stopped for lunch at the Mount Vernon, IL Cracker Barrel on Sunday afternoon (May 28th to be exact) with my wife and daughter and my fully loaded Chevrolet Silverado 1500 HD. Upon leaving Cracker Barrel, I heard a rattling sound coming from beneath my truck. I thought 'TRANSMISSION' and since we were on a tight timeline to close on our new home in North Carolina I became quite concerned because it was Sunday and the following Monday was Memorial Day. A quick check on GOOGLE for transmission repair in the area located M & M Transmission and upon reading the reviews I called even though it was Sunday, left a VoiceMail, and then proceeded to find a hotel for my family and me. On Monday, May 29th (Memorial Day) I received a call back from Melody (one of the M's...husband Mark is the other) and she said they were closed for Memorial Day (as a Veteran I applaud them for that) but could I come in first thing Tuesday so they could take a crack at fixing my transmission and getting me back on the road. So I did. Upon arriving at the family business of M & M Transmission even before they opened at 8 AM I found they were already open and happy to help. My truck was pulled into their shop and the transmission was promptly disconnected in order to locate the problem. Within minutes...yes minutes...I was informed my transmission was fine, but that a bearing in the oil circulating pump in the transfer case had gone bad. The nearest parts shop was some distance away, but M & M promptly made a call to get a transfer case sent to them pronto. In the meantime, I was hungry, hot, tired, and still stressing about getting to North Carolina to accept delivery of our furniture from the moving company and to close on our new home. Mark and Melody gave me the keys to their personal vehicle, told me to go get some breakfast, relax and let them take care of the rest. I did and after some food and coffee my stress levels were much reduced. I came back to their offices around an hour later and was informed that the new transfer case was on its way. To end this tale of woe on a positive note, M & M Transmission received the new transfer case around noon on Tuesday, 30 May and by 2 PM that day I was back on the road. I could not have been more grateful and this review is the least I can do for the very fine folks at M & M Transmission.
