He even worked on a weekend as the situation was an emergency. He's extremely knowledgeable and persistent; worked until the issue was resolved. A rarity among mechanics and electronics technicians, Chris has a passion for the technical stuff and loves the challenge. He comped me a few hours work when he was troubleshooting as we went down a few false paths in the process of elimination. Chris of Dockside has been the only vendor of any kind to call and follow up post-service. He is also very professional, polite, and owns the right tools and equipment. I'm grateful I was able to hire him. Highly recommended.

I used Chesapeake Dockside Services in Annapolis, Maryland for many years for maintenance on my…read moreboat. I had a great relationship with Chris (the owner) and Rob over the years. For most of that time, service was solid -- they generally showed up on time, were helpful, and I paid every bill promptly. We had a good relationship for a long time. Over the last year or two, though, things slipped noticeably. They started showing up haphazardly, often not on the days they promised, and it would take a week to a few weeks to get any email confirmation or follow-up. Communication became very spotty. That came to a head when I was selling my boat and needed a tachometer issue fixed -- the engine was over-revving. I contacted Chris directly, explained it was time-sensitive because the boat was being surveyed for sale, and was told I'd be added to the list and taken care of quickly. Instead, I waited five weeks with no update, emailed twice with no response, and finally had to call the office myself to ask what the delay was. That's when Austin told me Chris and Rob were both out on vacation at the same time, leaving him as the only guy handling everything -- with zero communication to me beforehand that there'd be any delay. I was told a tech would come out that Monday. Austin confirmed he'd be there. He never showed. When I followed up Thursday, he said he'd just gotten busy and never made it out -- his response was basically, "good luck, I hope it turns out okay for you." The pre-sale survey happened before the tachometer was ever fixed. As a direct result, I had to lower the overall price of the boat and create a $2,000 seller's allowance during negotiations. I lost several thousand dollars because they didn't show up and fix the problem like they said they would. Despite a decade of loyalty and on-time payments, the lack of communication and missed commitments during a time-sensitive repair left me feeling like I was no priority whatsoever, and that our long-standing relationship didn't matter at all. I felt betrayed, and this growing pattern of unprofessionalism and lack of caring has reached a point where I would not recommend them, nor would I ever use their services again if I get another boat. You're paying a premium and getting low-budget service.

If you are comfortable with, or even a member of, the waterman\bluecollar\backpack traveler class, this place can work for you. Allen, the manager, went out of his way to make us feel like part of the family. He drove us to the local grocery store so we could provision and offered suggestions on a problem we were having with our Atomic 4. When we dropped the top of the vegetable steamer over the side Saturday evening, he interrupted his own dinner hour to bring a pair of 18-foot oyster tongs with which he dredged the creek bottom next to our boat. The lid was found, and we will be eating steamed veggies again (which, as we are vegetarian, is a bit critical). I couldn't get the wifi to connect with my laptop, and there was no pumpout on site (one nearby), and the showers could have been a bit cleaner, but everyone was most warm and helpful, so 4.5 out of 5 stars. We felt very at home and if ever in the area again we will be happy to stay again. Deep (10-12+foot) at the slips, good coverage from the wind, quiet at night.

This has happened three times now and I have never heard back. So for me these guys are useless.

I asked him for an estimate to do my boat's blue hull. He identified the hull surface as Awlgrip paint on top of gelcoat, and told me how he would treat it. Most important, he said he would NOT use a cotton buffing pad as that would cut the paint's surface. I had just bought a buffer and cotton pads to do the task myself, and Matt saved me from damaging my blue hull. I immediately engaged Matt for the job because of his expertise. Matt fit me in his schedule a few days later because I am launching the boat this weekend. A month from now when his schedule permits, Matt is going to buff and detail my boat's badly-oxidized deck and pilot house. He can do that when the boat is in a slip.
