I used to frequent the mall so often for a post dinner stroll that certain employees throughout the mall recognized my family and I. All that changed with the pandemic but we're finally venturing back every so often. A number of my mall favorite stores have gone including Godiva, but it got me Googling Läderach and how the Swiss chocolatier came to be at the Galleria. As background, Läderach only expanded to North America in 2019, so fairly recently. At the beginning of 2021, they signed an asset purchase agreement with Godiva which had them take over the leases of a number of US Godiva locations - of which I assume the Houston Galleria location is one. They currently have 37+ locations in the USA. Läderach had similar offerings to Godiva. You've got the display case with the individual chocolates/truffles/pralines (some of which are alcoholic). They also have walls of prepackaged/gift boxed delectables. But here are the differences: there's no soft serve or hot chocolate... BUT they do have Frisch Schoggi (Fresh Chocolate) - slabs of chocolate similar to the chocolate "bark" seen here - which sets them apart. Gourmet chocolate bark! Also, all of their products are MADE in Switzerland and shipped to their stores (I can't imagine the shipping costs for that, lol). Godiva, being found internationally, has chocolate churning factories in Pennsylvania and Turkey in addition to Belgium, where the company originated. For my first visit (Thursday night) they had a steady stream of customers up to closing. Only 2 employees that were trying to attend to everyone. I thought for a bit because I was trying to take a poll in my party to see what flavors I should get (don't know why I try... I almost always end up choosing the flavors) so they tended to other people first to the point I was waiting when I was ready. However, they were great with questions. I ended up getting some Frisch Schoggi. They allow you to sample before buying - sometimes a decent sized piece since they break it by hand. I'm not sure if they have a limit; I sampled 2 before making my decision. I was apprehensive since I didn't want to commit to something if it was too sweet but the Strawberry curd was perfect! Probably help by the quark in it. I ended up getting the Strawberry Curd and dark chocolate Florentine. You can taste the quality ingredients and the product was decadent and super smooth. Note: they asked if I had food allergies before I tried some and they have vegan options! Major kudos there. If you have nut allergies, you might have a problem. Nuts were a big component in many of their flavors. That would explain why it's sold by weight at the rate of $55.60/lb - not to mention the name on the bottom of the slabs. Fancy! I'm not sure if it's the same for their display case chocolates but I'll find out my next visit. This place is a little more expensive than Godiva (around the $45/lb range), but I assume we're helping cover shipping costs in addition to everything else. Both great chocolates but I've only had Godiva's case chocolates so until I try Läderach's, I cannot give a proper review. HOWEVER, I can say it is delicious and perfect as a treat. I enjoyed my first taste of Läderach and look forward to exploring more!

A new luxury chocolate store in Houston - a Swiss co. Laderach. Exactly where Godiva used to be earlier. They opened Saturday the 25th of Oct , so its really really new. Go crazy with chocolate and its many flavors and they do have samples. Nothing is made here, everything is made usn Switzerland and overnighted here- how cool is that !!

I've never been in love with a chocolate store but wow this place can get addicting. Thank God i don't live around here because i will go broke spending my money here. Their hazelnut milk chocolate bark is what got me hooked. It's a wide selection of carefully thought out flavors and the textures too Our sampler was also so friendly and accommodating. As well as well informed so she tended to all our picky needs and requests. Found out they are a family legacy and hope it continues cause they seem to know what's up with chocolate.

The presentation and beautiful box it came in with the different levels to the chocolate itself was unlike anything I have ever seen. They each beautifully decorated like gems and tasted unique with spices like cardamom and saffron. I like that they include a description of each chocolate so you know what you are tasting. Since I told them I would be traveling from Houston to Florida, they packaged my box carefully to ensure it stayed safe and in tack. I've made recommendations to a few of my family members who have ordered from them. I like that they have vegan options as well. Nothing beats going to the store but if you can't, their website is easily accessible. I think it's time to order since my birthday was a few days ago. A gift to myself.

When I stopped by on a weekday evening at 9pm it was packed. They had stations setup throughout the store to order different goods, which helped to alleviate the rush. Knafeh ($6) - They offered 2 types of knafeh, one with cheese and one with custard. I went with the one made with Nabulsi cheese and topped with shredded phyllo, and soaked in sugar syrup. It was warm, crispy and delicious! Karak tea ($5) - This milk tea drink was made with aromatic spices, primarily cardamom, cloves, ginger and cloves. I was happy to see they used whole milk instead of evaporated milk. The drink was incredibly rich and creamy and tasted great. Turkish delight ($18 / lb.) - This was extremely fresh, soft and chewy, made with cornstarch, sugar, nuts. Some of the varieties I tried had chocolate and/or fruits. The baklava here was fresh made with layers of phyllo dough, chopped nuts, and held together with some honey. The nut offerings here included, almonds, walnuts, peanuts and a few more. Overall I was impressed with everything they offered here with the exception of the nuts, which I thought were just ok. I'd definitely return if I was in the area.

For example, with the Turkish delights and ice cream selections, only a few items are labeled. For most of them, you have to guess the flavor or ingredients. When I asked questions, there was a language barrier, and the staff member behind the counter was unable to clearly explain what the items were in English. This can be especially frustrating for customers with food allergies or dietary restrictions. In the U.S., I would expect all flavors and ingredients to be clearly labeled so customers can make informed choices. Even if staff members are not fluent in English, having accurate labels for flavors and ingredients would greatly improve the customer experience. The desserts themselves are excellent, but better product labeling would make the experience much more enjoyable and accessible for everyone.

They had two chocolate bon bons that weren't infused with alcohol and then all of the flat medallions are also not infused. The store front is very tiny, it could fit maybe 6 people fairly comfortably. They do have a speak easy space for their tastings, which is an interesting concept, which I'll touch on later. Effectively, they have different unique shapes of chocolate that are liquid filled with alcoholic and non-alcoholic liqueurs. Think licor 43, gin, bourbon, whiskey, tequila, etc. The chocolates themselves are good, there wasn't any that I disliked and I'd say the carajillo was one of my favorites. All that said, I think this can be hit or miss with some folks. I like them, whereas I can see how it has a bit of a flash in the pan type taste. It hits fast and then, that's it.Personally, I can get past that probably and could easily eat 10 in rapid fashion. Where this place loses my attention and where I struggle is the pricing. Value is always subjective and I'm sure some will find these to be well worth their price. For reference, I think it's 4 for $22, 8 for $34, when I recently visited. I just didn't find them to be worth that pricing model, particularly when there are other brands that you can get at a lower price and similar fillings. At the end of the day, I think this is worth it for an experience or date, particularly if you're going to go in for the tasting. Think, wine and cheese, in this case, cocktails and chocolates. It's $65 a person for the experience. Overall, I'm glad to see a boutique shop like this that's locally owned by a young, ambitious entrepreneur. My two cents, price lower and there is likely a higher amount of return customers for the chocolates, but I'll save you, the reader, the take on an entire business model diatribe here.

The balance of sweet and savory with the crunch was beautifully done- 10/10 Lastly, I had to try what they're known for which is their Nama chocolate. The texture of the Nama chocolate is soft, almost like a cheesecake and the taste was very decadent. I tried an orange chocolate, a regular dark chocolate and white chocolate with white chocolate being my favorite. 10/10. One of the things that I noticed about these chocolates is that a lot of them are individually wrapped so they make great gifts options and they are packaged well. The only slight quirk to the Nama is that it has to be refrigerated so that may not work for some. They do provide an ice pack to go in the packaging so that way if you have some running around to do, it will preserve your chocolates for a little bit.
