All of my calls were answered and returned quickly and if needed, a tech was sent out to handle the problem. Registration is a bit of a process. You first have to create a profile through the Lorain County Metro Parks system, then return to the Splash Zone site to register for a specific program on a designated day and time. Once registered, the system shows your cost--mine initially showed $0. I arrived about 30 minutes early on the morning of my class, which turned out to be helpful because I had to re-register in person. After completing that, I was told there would normally be a $3 fee due to my SilverSneakers account. However, the woman at the front desk kindly let me attend for free that day, explaining that future visits would be $3. Since I'd never been there before, I had to navigate through several locker and pool areas. There are multiple pools separated by glass dividers with automatic doors--someone shared a helpful tip that the small black box above the door shows which side to stand on to trigger it. The instructor came in without much of an introduction, set up a small carry-on-size speaker, put on her headset, and began the class. The workout was aqua Tabata (a Japanese-style interval workout): 20 seconds of fast-paced movement followed by 10 seconds of rest. The class lasted 45 minutes. I stayed for about 30 minutes, choosing to leave early since shower space is limited and I like to be considerate of others. The workout itself was excellent, and being in the water felt really good. The showers, however, were not great--hair on the floor and a general "public park" feel, even at 10:30 a.m. I was glad I wore water shoes. On the plus side, the water temperature and the very hot shower afterward were appreciated. The instructor mentioned that this is her business and encouraged people to connect on Facebook (with a profile photo), and it's clear she's very talented. Overall, despite a few logistical and cleanliness issues, I'd go back again--and next time, I'd happily pay the $3 when I'm in town.

Outdoor pool My kids…read moreloved it! I have been to splashzone for years and this was my first time utilizing the outdoor pool. It costs $8 per person no matter the age. We had three young children with us. You enter through the main pool area and walk to your right out a set of doors. There is a large pool area that is sectioned off for different uses. There is a gradual entry area with a water playground for kids, this is connected to the main part of the pool that gets about 5 feet deep. There are 2 slides that you have to be 48 inches to ride. The lifeguards have a break for 15 minutes after 45 minutes of swimming. All kids have to get out of the water. While waiting there are lots of lounge chairs, a snack shack offer ice cream, hot dogs, pretzels, etc. along with a playground and swing area for the kids. There are also two indoor areas you can take the kids to play with the frog pool for younger kids and the indoor water playground.

If not, we would go to Madison Park and try to sneak into their pool, I think I have a better Madison Pool record to be honest. I like that the diving board is not separate from the main pool. Only the infants pool is separate, which is a good thing. There's two sides, the East side is more for the kids, so for the adults stay on the West end for a more relaxed swim. The lane is for exercise, swim your laps, enjoy the day. Summers too short in Cleveland as you are all aware. If you're not aware, you'll find out the hard way when it's snowing one day when it was 65 the day before. That's why it's imperative you take advantage of the pool while you can, TAKE ADVANTAGE MAN! I found out this year the snack bar does not, I repeat, DOES NOT carry Za anymore, that's pizza for the rest of the normal world. If you by chance call it Za, get off my Yelp page, please. I was definitely disappointed to find this out. They have good prices and you can order from the park too, which is cool for the days you're not at the pool and still would like a snack.

In the mornings, there's adult lap swim times (set up for 25Y lengths), and in the afternoons the play pool, lazy river, and water slide open up. Swim lessons are offered periodically, and you're sure to hear a game of Marco Polo happening during open swim. Park in the same lot you would to get to the ice rink and other venues inside the Community Center, and walk directly towards the gate to get access to the pool. All this obviously comes at a price, and depending on whether you're a resident of Shaker Heights or not, there are pricing packages for individual day passes and season passes. Inquire inside the Community Center for more information and to purchase a pass. They use special wristbands to delineate your age and access so its easier for lifeguards to know who's cleared to lap swim - safety first! I come mainly to lap swim and while I love that they're open until 8PM, it's not the most optimal pool for training. They don't have the large time clocks to do swim sets, and when I come earlier on the weekends I'm often competing with the other regulars to share a lane. My biggest qualm is the lack of flags demarcating the last 5Y of each end of a lap which are helpful when swimming backstroke. At least the lanelines are colored differently though. There are ample lounge chairs and canopied areas for families to set up camp. If tanning is your game, you can easily find a spot on the deck for that too. I haven't been able to find lockers during my time here but there are separate men and women's bathrooms easily accessible adjacent to the lifeguard's lounge area. They have kickboards available to borrow nearby as well.

During Covid days we are all looking for a safe , serene environment where we can participate in healthy outdoor activities . Dave Barr and his staff has created such an environment . The outdoor facilities ( pools, tennis etc) are in the best condition I've seen in many years. Everything is updated and fresh. A Monarch caterpillar was on a milkweed plant, and the milkweeds are everywhere. Love trees? Lots of oak trees and others line the paths. Redwing blackbirds were chirping. In the mornings and evenings I've was told you can see a lot of deer. A shelter is available for group events. There are a few picnic tables under the trees. More tables are needed.
