I have been a dedicated Lyft user for five years. As my husband and friends have continued to use Uber, I have stayed committed to Lyft because I have heard they treat their drivers better and are more LGBTQ supportive. However, after a recent experience and the lack of follow up by Lyft, I have deleted Lyft from my phone and commit to using a different driving service. I recently requested a Lyft. I had four adults and two pieces of luggage. When the driver arrived she asked if I could put my luggage in the front seat because her trunk was full with her own stuff. Since I had four adults that would not work. Lyft driver: You need to cancel and request an XL because you have too many people. (in an agitated tone of voice). Me: No, a general Lyft is supposed to fit four adults and that is what I have. Your trunk does not have any room for our luggage. I am not going to cancel because then I will get charged. Lyft Driver: You have too many people you need an XL. Me: No I don't. She eventually cancelled the ride and drove off and I ordered a new Lyft. A few minutes later a new driver arrived from Lyft, he put our two pieces of luggage in his trunk and the four people in my party, including me, safely got to our destination. A few minutes later I noticed an email from Lyft that stated a driver reported me for a safety violation. I read the standard, preformed email. The email stated that I tried to fit more people than was safe. Confused by what safety rule I broke, I wrote to Lyft. I only had four people, which a normal Lyft is supposed to fit 1-4 people. The driver had too much personal stuff in her trunk to accommodate our luggage. So in fact I did not break any sort of safety rule. I received a standard email back from a customer service agent, Mark David. Mark and I exchanged several emails but his responses were all pregenerated and seemed like a computer what just spitting responses out at me. His emails kept telling me that I broke a safety rule, but never specified what rule, even when I explicitly asked. Then the Lyft customer service agent gave me a link to call Lyft. Each time I called I was given two options, one was if it was an emergency to hit #1 and two if it was a billing question to hit #2. Since I didn't feel like my situation fit either of those, I hung up. I never felt heard or acknowledged by Mark, so I eventually called again. I chose to hit #2 because my instance was not an emergency. I was never charged for anything because the driver did cancel the ride, but since she was disgruntled that I would not cancel, she filed a false report against me. All I am looking for is for a customer agent to listen to me and to clear my Lyft record of this false report. I eventually got in touch with an offshore agent, Lee. She listened to my story and put me on hold for about 10 minutes while she investigated. After 10 minutes she came back on and told me that she couldn't do anything but that a different customer agent would email me back within two days. When I asked for someone to call me back she told me they couldn't do that, only email. It has now been three weeks and I have received no response from Lyft. In my mind this is unacceptable. I have been dedicated to using Lyft for more than five years and this treatment, not being heard or acknowledged, is unacceptable to me. Since Lyft does not seem to value me, a dedicated user, I have deleted them from my phone and will use other transportation companies. read more

I recently switched over to Uber after being a loyal customer for lyft for 4 yrs. I used lyft daily during the week to get to work prior to the incident I had. I was in a lyft with 2 other people and one of the people input the wrong address but the driver still decided to drive the person to their desired destination without worrying about throwing off me and the other passenger's times. This resulted in us both being late to work. I was dropped off in the middle of downtown having to call yet another lyft to get me to work 45 mins late. I always give myself an hr to get to work that usually takes 15 mins. I have been doing this for 4 years and have never been late up until that moment. What should have cost me usually $9 ended up costing me almost $20. I wrote to lyft several times, they answered once and said it didn't cost extra so next time they will make sure I don't get paired with that person again but still did nothing else to help the situation. read more

Took my first Lyft ride in Chicago from N. Broadway St. in uptown to our hotel in Skokie. (A 30 minute ride.) First, I downloaded the Lyft app to my smart phone and then entered my contact and payment information. Then, I went into the app's settings to find the space for the promotional code for the $25 credit on the first Lyft ride. (You must do this before requesting a ride!) Then, I hit the big green button to request a ride. Within seconds, it showed a map of where we were standing and the surrounding area along with the real-time locations of 5 nearby Lyft drivers. Within seconds after that, a driver responded to our request and informed us he was on his way. We could track his car on the map as it headed our way. It took about 2 minutes for him to arrive from the time I requested a ride. The ride itself was enjoyable. I hopped into the front passenger seat and my wife sat in the back seat. The driver was very friendly and we had a very nice conversation about several topics. He refused to take a cash tip when we arrived at our destination. The ride amounted to a total of $23, but after the $25 credit, it ended up being free. I would certainly use Lyft again! read more

Superb experience on a first try. Will definitely use Lyft again because of it. We have ordered a Lyft which was also a free ride sponsored by the even we were at. Unfortunately my phone has died and because of the confusing location we were not able to locate our driver until a while after and at that point we learned (as we were sitting in the car) that our ride has been cancelled and someone else was getting in. The person getting in to our benefit happened to be a Lyft employee ( Lead of Marketing in Chicago) and insisted that we stay in the car and be driven to our location. Lyft is horrible. I have been having an ongoing issue with them for months now. I have over 30 unauthorized transactions from them on my bank account going as far back as January. I have emailed them many times asking for help and they just keep telling me they are "working on it." These charges totaled over $400. For some people, $400 is a lot of money to be stolen from you! And my bank can't help me because the company who made the charges, Lyft, is known. But they won't do anything about it! I never gave anyone my Lyft account or my card information. They should honor my claim. They are not even denying it either, they are just blowing me off. And of course there is no phone number!! This is ridiculous. I would give them zero stars if I could. My recommendation is NEVER EVER use Lyft in the Chicago downtown area. We did three bookings with Lyft and it was dreadful. The first driver was unfriendly, didn't know the area at all, drove extremely unsafely and even made an illegal u-turn over a median. We were being honked at by other drivers and almost got hit by a city bus. It was terrifying. The second driver also didn't know the area, starting going in the wrong direction and wouldn't listen to us when we said we were going the opposite way from our destination. We eventually made it, but it was not pleasant. We couldn't find the third driver, she didn't contact us, drove away and we were charged. We reported this to Lyft but they made no effort to make it right. The last time we tried Uber and it was the exact opposite experience. In the Fort Worth, Texas, area I had a good experience once with Lyft, but Chicago is definitely NOT a place to use Lyft! read more

We took a Lyft yesterday 9/1/18. He dropped off a few other people, and then picked us up at Wriggley Field. Granted, we did not order the Lyft through my phone, so I did not have a name, or a meter, but I assumed that he was going to charge us the amount that he would charge someone that did order it through the app. I asked him how would be pay him and he said either with card or cash. When we came close to our destination, he asked me how much I am willing to pay for the ride (the ride was 20 min), and I answered by saying that I will pay the amount that the company has set. He laughed and he said "Well i usually charge $40, for this ride". I was stunned. $40 for a 20min ride?! I looked at him, shocked, and I said that he's not the one that decides the rate. The rate is determined by the company, per meter/drive. And that I have never heard of a Uber/Lyft drive that costs that much unless you are driving one hour away. He then agreed to lower it to $30. He was really unprofessional, and I just wanted to get out of his car. It was my fault for not using the app/meter to calculate how much it would have cost me, but I thought the he would be a decent human being and be honest with me about the cost. In general I like lyft way more than uber and regular taxi services but I will never use lyft in downtown Chicago again. Stay away from this awful company. I have kept track of this and the last 10 rides I have taken, the drivers start the ride before they arrive! They either start the ride before they have arrived at the pick up location or they start the right 3 blocks down the street and pretend they can't read the GPS location, always using the excuse of "I didn't get your address." Funny, because when I hop in the car, my address is on your GPS! This in the beginning of Lyft wasn't a problem, because their fairs were more affordable. If you use this service during commuting hours, its surge pricing and the drivers starting the ride 3 blocks down the street and asking you to walk to their car is an addition $3-$5. That is ridiculous. This literally just happened for the 10th time today. I was walking out of Starbucks at Clark & Deming, ordered a Lyft for my wife to get to work...the driver parked at Wrightwood. I called her and said you started the ride but you aren't at our location. She said "I'm here, I'm right outside." I was like no, you are not, we are standing here. She then responded, "Oh I'm just a bit up the street, just walk to me." This is unacceptable. It's not the biggest deal when it happens 1x, but for anyone using Lyft regularly, the bill adds up. I recently took a Lyft for the first time. I normally use Uber but I wanted to save a couple bucks. I ended up getting charged twice and was NOT taken to my destination. Me and my boyfriend requested a ride and about two minutes into the ride, my driver Nathaniel pulled over and said that the ride didn't not process through. It was only showing a $3 charge so it told me to request a ride again. So I double checked my card information thinking maybe it was that. I switch my payment to Apple Pay to be sure. I check my account to make sure I didn't get charged which I had not. I cancelled the ride and requested another one like he asked and he got frustrated that his car wasn't popping up so he said we can get a new driver and I agreed to it because I didn't want to waste his time. As soon as he left, I received TWO charges. The first one for $26.30 from when he first picked us up and another one for $23.90 when he asked me to request a ride again. This is my first time ever using Lyft and it is literally the worst experience I've ever had. I would like to get refunded asap. read more

I will never use there service even if they offered a better rate. Driver canceled pickup most likely because of fare charged. Little did he know I was going to have him wait while I picked up a few things at Walgreen, have him bring me back and I'm a good tipper. Called Uber, quick pick up no problem. Called Lyft customer service to find out why they canceled my ride. Customer service is very disappointing. Nothing but runaround, excuses and lies. Claims driver was at my house and called me. I asked if that was the case why was I not charged a no show fee. Their reason was because the driver canceled 4:23 mins and did me a favor because ride was cancelled within 5 min no charge cancel policy. Not dependable, how can the company allow drivers cancel rides that appear to be low generating fares. I would have expected rep and manager to apologize and offer a future credit as a good faith gesture. They would make sure that driver doesn't serve me any more. Let me start off by saying Lyft is a great concept and a better alternative to conventional taxis. I used it periodically in San Diego from time to time and even went as far as to become a driver just in case I ever felt I needed some extra cash for a future plan. However, the Lyft system in Chicago is ridiculous. I'm not sure about other cities because I have never seen it in San Diego myself, but there is this malicious feature called "Prime Time" where Lyft automatically adds a 75% tip on top of your fare to the driver. Yes, that is correct, 75%. You cannot avoid it if it is active but you can add an additional tip at the end if you feel inclined to maybe round it off and simply pay double than what you should have. Now it takes a lot to get me to give a business 1 star but wow, Lyft goes above and beyond to seal the deal. I'm going to straight out say that they are actually promoting Uber, their competition, with such a feature. I paid double using Lyft compared to using Uber during the same "Prime Time" period. Uber did not have a horrendous feature like that and even though both services were not up to par as to what I'm used to in San Diego, I would definitely come out and say avoid Lyft at all costs, literally, all costs, whether it be Prime Time or not. Their reasoning behind charging you 75% extra is to promote more drivers. Well that's great but I don't know where they thought that charging passengers extra would promote business. It doesn't, it's very simple. As for the drivers I had, they were hit and miss, all of them were "new drivers" and learning the system still, so it was a little hard to knock on their overall service since they were still settling into the concept. If not for the Prime Time feature (where Uber does not have one going on at the same time in the same area), I'd say Lyft is fair, but as it stands, it is not. read more

This is a message to anyone who wants to stay safe. DO NOT get in a car with John (blonde hair, 23-24 years old), who drives in a van or Black Ford Explorer. He will ask you if you want to go out to bars and drink. He made my girlfriend extremely uncomfortable by asking her to use her bathroom at 4am in morning and saying inappropriate things to her throughout the ride to her apartment. Our very nice driver almost got us broadsided TWICE in just seconds. First, she had no idea on how to get to our destination. Driver is a recent transplant from a boarder state. Second, she would fully stop at the stop signs (thats great), except when she arrived at the first major intersection. The Lyft driver stopped and then proceeded full speed ahead through this major intersection, NOT realizing that the east and west bound traffic on this major intersection had NO STOP sign! When she proceeded s/b we came within inches of being broadsided from a w/b, horn blasting vehicle. The driver slammed the brakes as we remained in the middle of the intersection totally startled, Lyft driver included. Next, from the middle of the same intersection she continues straight ahead s/b without checking the traffic and we almost got creamed again by an e/b vehicle, again with horn blasting. In seconds the drivers hands where trembling and her facial complexion changed all kinds of color. We asked her to pull over (so she could regain her composure) and she did. After a few minutes we proceeded to our destination and arrived without further incidents. Because of the aforementioned incident, I have never used Lyft or Uberx. Only Uber Taxi. My wife and I only found our selves in a Lfyt car because our out-of-town friend was excited on using her $5.00 ride anywhere promotion. Needless to say, we summoned an Uber Taxi for the trip back home and had a seamless ride back. My contention has always been that we may not have the best taxi drivers of all the major cities in the US, but I will take a Chicago taxi any day before i ride in a car with a totally untrained driver in their own personal car. I'll take my chances with a taxi company that has legitimate insurance and the driver gets training and must pass a physical and drug testing and a criminal background check, among other types of screening. Next time, when a friend is willing to pay for a share car ride; I'll meet you there, I'm taking a taxi. BTW, when riding in a back seat of a taxi, Lyft or any car, always where your seat belt. Service is getting worse every day. Drivers text for destination and park till you cancel if they don't like where you are going. There's no response from Lyft on complaints. Uber at least bothers to answer you! Rates might be lower but it's a hit or miss. I rather pay $1 more but get the ride than deal with rude drivers and wait over 30 minutes for a ride. read more

the driver called me after i ordered a lyft. since it was my first time riding i had a free ride up to $20. he told me i should cancel because he was trying to go downtown. i explained that if i canceled then i would have to pay full price for the first ride. so he came.... ONE HOUR LATER! His name was Borys. he drove me where i needed to be and i thought that was that. NO! he got on the highway as i watched on the app and never ended the ride. he drove downtown and acted like i was still in the car with him. i was charged for all of his toll road usage and mileage. i took this up with customer service and they calculated from where i got picked up and dropped off that it should have been totally free but i ended up being charged $30 AFTER the $20 credit. customer service wasn't bad and refunded me what i was owed, but i must say i will never use lyft again. DISHONEST! On 10/4/2017 due to a fatality on a Metra line resulted in no trains leaving Ogilvie, 2 of my friends and I ordered a Lyft, which was charged to my account. My friends had each given me their share of the fare of $41.25. Due to fatigue and aggravation, when we reached our destination I mistakenly gave the driver $46.00 in cash and didn't realize until the next day that I had, in fact, double paid. I reported this immediately to Lyft, who refused to refund my overpayment. This was dishonest and unfair on their part. Hands down one of the worst experiences ever. They lied about free rides, they lied about receiving a credit for every person who joins, and if a person doesn't swiftly end a ride then please expect to be over charged. Please don't get me started on the bs charges and "primetime" fees. They do not have a customer service line so you can only email. He never attempted to come to the correct location. I was waiting for a long time. Instead he cancelled the ride himself. I was notified by text and had to walk over blocks to catch a cab. Lyft Riders Beware!!! The last time I used Lyft (and it will be the last) I was overcharged. The receipt listed an inaccurate pick-up address and inaccurate drop-off address. It also calculated the mileage at over twice what it was. I rode from O'Hare Airport to Lincoln Park, 15.2 miles to be exact, and the receipt noted a ride of 36.87 miles and charged me $60.00. But that isn't the disturbing part. Everyone makes mistakes. the REALLY INFURIATING part is that it was nearly impossible to find a way to alert the company, and when I finally did, my complaint went entirely unanswered. I'm out $60.00 for a ride that is usually under $20.00. Even a taxi would have been two thirds the price. Not being able to communicate with the company was especially frustrating. Lyft is by far the worst service I've ever used. I keep deleting and redownloading this app thinking they'll get better just to find myself angry and dissatisfied all over again.
