Everyone is wonderful. BUT...I had my wedding dress altered. The hem was NOT good. I asked for it to be shorter and was told it would be too short. I took my elderly father who has mobility issues to have 6 pairs of pants hemmed. as soon as we walked in, Lydia was very friendly and recognized how difficult it would be for my father to try on all of the pants. she told him to try on 2 pairs and they would base the hem of the others from those. She directed him to the larger of the 2 fitting rooms to accommodate his walker. Lydia did not allow him to step up onto the box to be measured, rather she had one of her staff sit on the floor to pin the pants. Horrible service! Lydia not only told me the way I wanted my dress to fit mermaid style was "trashy" then she charged me almost $200 and never made the changes that we agreed to because she didn't want to because she tells people how they should wear their dresses. Never have I ever met someone so rude! She even rushed me when picking up my dress and trying it on. She proceeded to argue with me in front of other customers and then told me forget it I'm not happy anyway! The customer should get what they ask for!!! read more

Lydia was wonderful she took care of both myand my daughters dresses for my wedding, I had some issue with my dress as we went away just prior to the wedding and I came home extremely swollen!!! I couldn't even get my engagement ring off which typically swings on my finger. (Lesson learned) Lydia and the other lady with long dark hair were wonderful and did all the updates necessary on the dress and didn't even charge me because they felt so bad! Totally disgusted. Brought 4 brand new, EXACTLY the same sleeveless blouses in to have the armholes made smaller from the top seam at the shoulder, the simplest alteration in the world, and they made every one too small. Not only did they not leave enough fabric; when I brought them back, to try to correct the issue, they are completely unsalvageable! What a waste of three trips, my time and obviously the cost of the blouses. Honestly this review is the equivalent of charging them the cost of the alterations and the blouses. I needed to have a dress altered for a wedding that I was in, I went into Lydias to to get a quote and see what she would be able to do. Lydia was not there and her partner ensured that she would be able to help me, after putting on my dress explaining what I wanted done the woman looked at me and said ok get dressed. I got dressed and came back out and was given a quote for the dress. I never was told what she would be doing or if the requests I had made could be met. The quote I received was very overpriced. I told her I would have to think about it and be in touch. One of the factors that stood out to me the most was that I was given a price of $75 dollars just to take my dress up in length. I was told regardless if you are taking the dress up 1 inch or 5 inches it will be $75 just for that. I found that crazy. I also found the woman very rude,rushy and not wanting to help and explain. Needless to say I went elsewhere for my dress and would not go back even for a quote on an alteration! However I was recommended this place by several people who insisted Lydia is the best of the best, maybe she is but her counter part is not and needs to work on customer serving skills and explaining the work! read more

My entire experience with this place has been a nightmare since day 1.. brought her a dress of mine to alter 2 weeks before my event. Lydia told me to call her that following Friday(4 days later) to see the status/pick up the dress. After calling and calling for hours(she hardly ever picks up) she told me she hasn't even started it. She then told me to come to the store by Monday and It will be done, so I drove all the way from Hoboken, she told me she was waiting until 7:30 for me- got there at 7 and the store was closed. Finally ended up picking my dress up and she was not able to alter correctly (which was not her fault, dress didn't fit correctly to begin with) but i paid 100 dollars for a dress i can't do anything with. On top of that- she told me to bring in another dress free of charge and she will accommodate me before my event. Called today and she's "too busy" NEVER AGAIN!!!!! read more

I went to Lydia to have a wedding gown altered for my son's wedding. I have used her several times over a number and of years due to my daughter's good friend whose mother owned a local wedding dress shop and said she was the best. In fact she sent all her clients to Lydia. Well today totally changed how I look at Lydia. I came back this afternoon to pick up the altered gown. When I entered Lydia was in the middle of sewing some appliqués on a wedding gown. She had her other 2 seamstresses there doing their work, also. I greeted her and she made a comment about how it seems like yesterday that I just brought my gown on n for alterations. I reminded her that I put the date in my phone calendar right at her store last week before I left her shop. Then she immediately asked me for my ticket for the gown. I told her I charged the work to be done and put the attached ticket away in my file and forgot to bring it with me. She just literally blew up at me and said "everyone keeps coming in here without their tickets to pick up work. How can you expect me to find your gown". I just stood there dumbfounded and didn't know how to respond. I felt like a child being scolded. Her one seamstress got up from her station and tried to communicate with me that she is stressed. I mean really!! If another customer had been treated like I was today, they would have lost it with her. The dress was found in less than 1 minute. I took the dress Into the fitting room to try it on. I was quiet like a mouse because I still couldn't believe what had just happened to me. While I was getting ready t come out, I hear her seamstress talking in her native tongue. I got the impression she was telling her she crossed the line with me by how she yelled at me. When I came out she told me it was a great looking gown for my son's wedding. I was afraid to mention it, but the lining under the gown was shifting up above my bra slightly and started showing under the lace outer layer of the gown. I decided I had the mention it to her. She just said she didn't know and that I should pull the lining down under the gown. I told her I did it twice in the dressing room. She said it looked fine. I have noticed through the years that I have used Lydia that she seems to want to collect good money for her work, but downplays everything when you come in for a fitting and find something not right. She doesn't want to be bothered. You know what I say to that.....if you're tired of doing alterations, just retire and close the shop! After today's visit, I KNOW I overpaid for my alterations and got yelled at like a child. I spent $115 for alterations (the hem and both sides of my torso taken in) on a $150 gown and on top of everything, I get treated very badly by her. Time for me to move on. I definitely will tell my daughter's friend's mother about this. Unreal!! BTW, I gave her 3 stars because I want to be fair to the rest of her workers who seem to work diligently for her. read more

Horrible! Lydia was recommend through Hearts for You Bridal in Manalapan. Less than a week before the wedding and the bridal gown and mother of the bride gowns still aren't finished!! Lining is too long. Buttons were sewn on crooked. The last appointment the dress was too big... 5 days later the dress is too small and won't zip up! Every appointment Lydia promises something will be fixed and then the next week she claims she never said she was doing it. While Lydia is the one who does the fitting, she doesn't do the actual alterations. She passes it off to her team to do. While she is the "expert" she keeps repeating "I don't know what to do" and asks the bride and family how to do the alterations. On top of that, Lydia is unprofessional. She will get loud and yell enough for the whole store to hear. She ruined what should have been a happy experience. Update: We returned to the dress shop 3 days later and the dress is once again TOO BIG!!!!! How it went from too big to too small and then back to too big is unbelievable! On top of that Lydia was "sick" and didn't show up for the appointment. read more

I had a very long engagement and wanted to make sure I found the perfect dress with plenty of time to spare. The Curvy Bride works with Lydia and she therefore handled my alterations. I wish I took my dress somewhere else. I wanted to add on cap-sleeves as it was a sleeveless dress. I kept going to her and she would pin it, then I would leave and she'd charge us. Two Weeks before my wedding and the sleeves were still not on! It got to the point where she was still pinning them on. My mom and I weren't happy and when my mom asked why these haven't been put on yet, she snapped at her. When she finally sewed them on they were no where near what she measured and sewn down that I couldn't move my arms. I was literally crying and embarrassed myself walking out. I kept thinking I couldn't throw the bouquet and this was the week before the wedding!! The night before I was so upset my mom had to unsew them which she did in a second because the stitching was awful! My mom then had to PIN it back on and the whole day/night of my wedding my sleeves were pinned in. I was so self-conscious at my wedding and that is not at all how I should have felt. She wasted our time, money and as much as I loved my wedding, when I think back I think of how self-conscious I was. I do not recommend Lydia at all and hope no one has to go through what I went through! read more

I paid in advance they had my clothes for at least 3 weeks. They did not have my clothes done when I went to pick them up. They said come back in a few minutes and I did. They said all done. I got home and found they didn't do the work they were paid to do. One pair of pants was supposed to be let out (the main reason I went for tailoring) and never was. I brought my bridesmaid dress in to Lydia's to be altered. My dress only needed the hem to be shortened. She told me to come back in two weeks (which made it a few days before the wedding) to pick it up. When I picked it up, it was as if nothing had been done. It was still so long and I was tripping over it and the sides were shorter than the front. I brought it back again and told them I would need it the next day since the wedding was so close and I would be traveling out of town. They were nice about it, told me they would have it done, and they did get it done. The problem started when I came to pick it up a second time. I brought my shoes in so that I could try the dress on again, and it was as if I had offended her great ancestors. She started yelling at me that it was done and that I didn't need to try it on again. I could not understand most of what she was saying. I calmly said that I still wanted to try it on since it was so long the last time. Annoyed, she said "go ahead". I went into the room to get changed and she and her coworker were talking about me right outside the door! They seemed super annoyed that I was trying the dress on and didn't try to hide it. I felt very embarrassed and ended up just leaving the store and trying the dress on at home. I could not believe the attitude and rudeness that I experienced and did not deserve. If the dress was done correctly the first time, I wouldn't have had to "burden" them by coming in a second time. read more

Do not go here for your wedding dress alterations! I went to pick up my dress the 3 days prior to leaving for my destination wedding. The dress was altered completely wrong. They hemmed it way to short, the back of the dress would not zip, & the cups sewn into the dress were hanging by a thread. I was there the weekend prior to picking up my dress for my "final fitting" which we agreed everything was good and she was going to sew in cups (which was supposed to be done weeks before) When I went back the dress would barely zip. It was way too tight. Mind you all of my fittings were done with the owner. I actually lost a few pounds in between fittings so there was no way the dress didn't fit because of weight gain. Regardless, I was there the week prior and the dress was fine. They ended up having to pull the entire dress apart and re-do the entire back. I did not live in the area so I had to hang out for 5 hours while they "fixed their mistake" I ended up with a dress that was way to big up top and an inch short in the front. I was so disappointed. I actually had to take the dress to a tailor when I got to my destination to have them fix the closure on the back of the dress because of the horrible job they did sewing the hook back on. I hate to write bad reviews but they really deserve this one. Did I mention my alterations were almost $700. The owner didn't even try to compensate even a little for any of their mistakes. This place may be fine for a hem of pants or something basic but I would never recommend them for wedding dress alterations. I was told to go to this place because this was the tailor used by the place I purchased my dress. Luckily, I was so happy to be marrying my best friend I didn't let the horrible job they did on my dress ruin my wedding. read more

Lydia is a lifesaver!!! I had a bridesmaid dress this summer that was not right for me at all and she made it work! It was way too big in some areas and way too small in others, too low in the back, the length was awful. Truth be told it didn't fit at all. She fixed it all! I really didn't think it was possible but she made it happen! I was both surprised and grateful! She took a very stressful situation for me and made me feel so much better. The day before the wedding I got a small pull in the dress (my fault!) and I called and she had me bring it right in and fixed to for me immediately. I have since recommended Lydia to other friends and they have all had a wonderful experience just as I did. I'm so happy to have found her! She really is the best! read more

No Stars! BEWARE! I brought my WEDDING DRESS in March to have a few slight alterations and made an appointment to come back in may to do a final try on. When the day came to pick up I called to confirm the time and I was told by the owner that it was not done (my wedding was 2 weeks away and I made the special trip from NY to pick up the dress). I told her that I had made the appointment in advance and she began yelling at me very aggressively, " WHAT DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND, HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU ITS NOT DONE." But of course, thats not nearly the end of the story. There is a beautiful piece of fabric (like a low cap sleeve that goes from one arm to the other side) which was taken WAY to far up, making it so I couldn't move my arms, there was also a veil that I purchased at magic touch which was supposed to get repaired- No one touched the veil and we had to bring it back AGAIN because they completely forgot to touch it. Don't trust these people with anything special, like your wedding dress!! read more

Lydia was flexible and lovely to work with throughout the entire process of adjusting my wedding dress. She has a great personality. It seems like she is occasionally stretched a little thin and could forget a detail, so you need to make sure that you confirm with her what is being done and when, but she gets it done and it ends up looking great. Really, in response to some of her lower reviews, you just need to make sure that you're clear and communicate directly and you won't have an issue. My dress was FANTASTIC and Lydia made sure that it was steamed and looking perfect right before my wedding. She actually ended up holding the dress in her shop until the day before which was HUGE help since I didn't need to hide it from my fiancé! read more
